Pop Star Taylor Swift Will Open The 2018 American Music Awards
Singer Taylor Swift is all set to take the stage at the 2018 American Music Awards.
On Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2018, Swift announced via a prerecorded video on Good Morning America that she will be opening the awards show on Oct. 9. "Good morning, America. It's Taylor. I just wanted to say I'm going to be opening up the American Music Awards with a performance," she shared, as she sat next to her cat Meredith on a couch.
When Meredith got up and walked away, Swift joked, "Don't be too excited about it. My god."
But, when GMA cut back to co-host Michael Strahan, he noted that, while Meredith might not be too interested in the big event, everyone else is thrilled at the news. "It looks like the cat doesn't care about Taylor Swift performing at the American Music Awards, but we do, of course. It's very exciting," he said.
On her Instagram page, Swift shared that same video, and, in the caption, she noted that she'll be performing her song "I Did Something Bad" from her 2017 album Reputation at the awards show.
Swift might also take home some awards that night, as she's been nominated in four categories — Artist of the Year, Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist, Favorite Pop/Rock Album (Reputation), and Tour of the Year (Reputation Stadium Tour).
As Nicki Swift previously reported, Ciara, Missy Elliot, Dua Lipa, Benny Blanco, Halsey, Khalid, Post Malone, Ty Dolla $ign, Carrie Underwood, Mariah Carey, and Cardi B will also perform during the awards show. According to Variety, Panic at the Disco will also perform a tribute to Queen.
Black-ish actress Tracee Ellis Ross will host the big event.
The 2018 American Music Awards will air live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Tuesday, Oct. 9, at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.
