The Strangest Things About Caitlyn Jenner's Relationship

Caitlyn Jenner is no stranger to making headlines, especially after her divorce from Kris Jenner and her July 2015 announcement that she would live her life as a transgender woman. So it should have come as no surprise to her that her love life would continue to make the news.

During an episode of her since-canceled reality showI Am Cait (via E! News), Jenner proclaimed, "To be honest with you, I can't see myself dating women in the future." She added, "I've been there done that. I've got three very strong ex-wives. I just don't see it."  You can imagine how shocked her fans then were when the Olympic gold medalist stepped out with a beautiful, young, transgender woman on her arm — Pepperdine University graduate, Sophia Hutchins.

According to Hutchins, she and Jenner met through their makeup artist and hairstylist, and their relationship slowly transitioned from friends to ... well, we're not quite sure how to define them.

Jenner and Hutchins' relationship is unorthodox in many ways. They've been notably reluctant to put labels on their romance, even though they reportedly live together in Jenner's Malibu, Calif. home. If that's not weird enough, just check out the rest of these strange facts about Caitlyn Jenner's relationship.

Inspired by Caitlyn

Before the two laid eyes on one another, Sophia Hutchins was a Pepperdine University college student who went by the name Scott. And back then, she was greatly affected by Caitlyn Jenner's story, despite having never met her before!

Pepperdine University Graphic revealed that Jenner's highly publicized 20/20 interview, in which she announced her gender transition, was very important to Hutchins' own personal journey. Hutchins told the newspaper that, after Jenner came out to the world as a transgender woman, it made things "so much more real for [...] like normal and successful people do this and people are OK when they do it."

However, it wasn't long before Hutchins and Jenner actually met. After Hutchins told her hairdresser that she was growing out her hair in preparation of transitioning into a woman, her stylist got her in contact with another client of hers who just so happened to be a transgender woman who could provide Hutchins with some advice and encouragement. That woman turned out to be Caitlyn Jenner, of course.

How weird is it then that Hutchins would later start a relationship with one of her heroes? We're certainly not against it, but it does seem a little strange.

Don't call it romantic!

Frankly, it's no one's business just what goes on in Caitlyn Jenner and Sophia Hutchins' relationship, but that doesn't stop the press from hounding the pair about their alleged romance. During one such interview with Jim Breslo for his Hidden Truth Show podcast, Hutchins was grilled about the ins and outs of their strange relationship — in particular, the exact timeframe in which she and Jenner may have gone from friends to romantic partners.

That's when Hutchins dropped a bombshell: She refused to label their relationship as "romantic," and, instead, she told the host she and Jenner have a "great partnership."

"Its unfortunate that the media has fixated onto is it romantic or is it not. I don't think we need to talk about is it romantic or not," Hutchins said. "We're partners in everything we do. We're inseparable. We're business partners, we live together, we share a dog, we share a family, we share a life together."

Let's recap: Jenner and Hutchins live together in Jenner's gorgeous Malibu, Calif. pad, but Hutchins refuses to label their relationship as romantic. Why?

Deny, deny, deny!

Sophia Hutchins hasn't been the only one in this dynamic duo to downplay their relationship status. Caitlyn Jenner also remained rather coy about her love life during an interview with Variety.

The writer made note that Hutchins was even present during Jenner's interview, which took place at the former reality TV star's office inside of her Malibu, Calif. home. The writer also mentioned the two ladies behaved very much like a couple, despite denying there was anything romantic going on between them. "We are not going to get into that," Jenner stated regarding their rumored romance. "But we are very close. We do a lot of things together. We're kind of inseparable. We're the best of friends."

Inseparable is an understatement. Aside from shacking up together, the two have also been frequently spotted doing normal, everyday things, such as shopping and dining out.

So, why so secretive, Cait?

Will Sophia be Caitlyn's next bride?

Caitlyn Jenner was quite popular on the dating scene during her heyday, and she has a long list of ex-wives to prove it. She's been married to Chrystie Crownover, Linda Thompson, and Kris Jenner. Given how unlucky she's been in the love department, one would think Jenner would detest the sheer thought of tying the knot for a fourth time. However, judging by Hutchins' social media activity, she and the former athlete may actually be considering taking a walk down the aisle.

During a Q&A session on her Instagram Stories (via The Sun), one of Hutchins' followers asked her if she was engaged to Jenner. Hutchins replied, "I'll show you the ring when I am." Another social media user asked Hutchins if she and Jenner were planning on getting married, and Sophia simply replied with two bride emojis. So, will wedding bells soon be ringing?

We're not sure if the fourth time will be the charm for Jenner, but, if her past is any indication as to how this strange romance will pan out, maybe Jenner should opt for something a little less ... permanent. Like a commitment ceremony, perhaps?

Disappointing Brody

After Caitlyn Jenner's son Brody Jenner announced he was getting married to his longtime girlfriend, Kaitlynn Carter, many expected to see Caitlyn in the front row at the ceremony, watching his son tie the knot in a resort east of Bali, Indonesia, according to The Sun. But a source shared some shocking news with People magazine. "Caitlyn has work commitments that have been set up for months and couldn't be changed in the end," the insider said.

So what could be so important to make Caitlyn miss this very special day? E! News stated that Caitlyn skipped out on the nuptials to fly to Vienna, Austria with Sophia Hutchins to attend the LIFE+ Solidarity Gala. And while we can appreciate Caitlyn's involvement with the "charity event raising funds for HIV & AIDS projects," she still missed out on her son's wedding! Making matters even worse for Brody, InTouch Weekly revealed that Caitlyn had allegedly booked her trip to Brody's wedding but canceled it last minute to accompany Hutchins. Naturally, Brody was super upset.

"It was a big disappointment," Brody told People magazine following his wedding day sans Caitlyn. "Especially considering that she had known about the wedding for a year."

Skipping out on your son's wedding to hang out with your rumored girlfriend in another country is not cool, Caitlyn. Not cool at all!

A massive age difference

Of course, one of the strangest things about Caitlyn Jenner's relationship with Sophia Hutchins is their massive age difference — a whopping 46 years, to be exact.

The fact that they were born during two completely different eras is only half of the battle. According to Life and Style magazine, Jenner's children, including Kylie Jenner, Kendall Jenner, and step-daughter Kim Kardashian, don't approve of the May-December romance. "They've heard from friends that Caitlyn's dating Sophia, and it upsets them like you wouldn't believe," an insider told the magazine. "[Hutchins is] their age! They feel a mix of jealousy and distrust about it."

Despite causing an uproar with her children and step-kids, and dating someone the same age as daughter Kendall, Caitlyn appears to be rather content with her much-younger girlfriend. "She and Sophia have a lot in common," the source added. "The age difference doesn't seem to matter at all."

Hutchins shared that exact same sentiment when she was asked about the age gap during an interview with Hidden Truth Show. "I don't see age as a factor in our relationship," she said. "I see we are two souls that are a fantastic match for one another, and I feel that we're so blessed to have found each other and to be so supportive of one another in everything that we do."

That's cool if Hutchins doesn't see age as a factor ... but the rest of the world does!

Is Caitlyn using Sophia to fill a void?

Caitlyn Jenner told Vice magazine in 2018 that she was really feeling just how empty her house had become after her children became adults. "I spend a lot of time by myself here in the house," she said, before adding, "I have a lot of children, but sometimes just because of circumstances, maintaining a close relationship with your kids is very tough."

By "a lot" of children, she means Kendall Jenner, Kylie Jenner, Brody Jenner, Brandon Jenner, Cassandra Marino, and Burt Jenner, as well as her step-children Kim Kardashian, Kourtney Kardashian, Khloé Kardashian, and Robert Kardashian Jr. So, yeah — a lot!

With her kids all grown up and starting families of their own, Jenner was feeling a bit lonely with her increased amount of solitude. "They all have lives. They've all moved on," she said somberly.

Our hearts break for her, but is it possible that Jenner sparked a relationship with her much-younger girlfriend to fill the void left by her children? Anything's possible.
