Jim Carrey Speaks Out About Ex-Girlfriend's Suicide Note

Jim Carrey is speaking out for the first time after details of ex-girlfriend Cathriona White's suicide note were released through her autopsy report.

"When I came to Hollywood to make it as a comedian, I soon learned that the details of my private life would be handed out to the media like free dinner vouchers," the 54-year-old star said in a statement (via People magazine). "I never dreamed that the people I love most in the world would also be on the menu. What a shame."

As Nicki Swift previously reported, White's autopsy report was revealed to the public on July 5, 2016. Included in the report was her suicide note, which gave a painful and heartbreaking look into her final moments.

"I've spent 3 days now in disbelief that you're not here," White, 30, wrote in the letter addressed to Carrey. "I can go on brokenhearted and try to put the pieces back. I could, I just don't have the will this time. I'm sorry you felt I wasn't there for you. I tried to give you my best part." White also discussed plans for her funeral in the note. "I don't really know about burial or that sort of thing," she wrote. "You are my family so whatever you choose will be fine." She ended the letter with, "Please forgive me. I'm just not for this world."

The Irish-born White dated Carrey on and off after meeting him on the set of a movie in 2012, reported People. She died in September 2015 from a mix of prescription medications, including propranolol, zolpidem, oxycodone and oxymorphone. At some point, Carrey reportedly texted White asking if she "knew where his painkillers went from under his sink."

Shortly after news of her death went public, Carrey released a statement to the press. "I am shocked and deeply saddened by the passing of my sweet Cathriona," he said. "She was a truly kind and delicate Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil, to whom loving and being loved was all that sparkled. My heart goes out to her family and friends and to everyone who loved and cared about her. We have all been hit with a lightning bolt."
