What Is Scarlett Johansson's Net Worth?

Scarlett Johansson was once a kid growing up in New York City with dreams of being a star and it's safe to say that she's achieved that goal. In addition to earning millions of fans around the world, Johansson has also earned millions of dollars. Frankly, the actress who can tackle everything from heart-wrenching drama to heart-pumping action has a lot (like, a lot) of money.

Johansson has an estimated fortune of $165 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth. Although she's appeared in plenty of popular movies over the course of her career — including Girl with a Pearl Earring, The Other Boleyn Girl, Marriage Story and Jojo Rabbit (the latter and former which both earned her Oscar nominations) — she happened to bring in a large chunk of her money in a single year. In 2019, the star topped the list of highest-paid actresses, raking in a staggering $56 million in just 12 months.

The majority of that money came from her role as Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which may not earn all of its actors a fortune, but it's done just that for Johansson. Although she originally took in much less for her earlier appearances as her conflicted, superhero-like character, Business Insider explains that "Johansson [later made] $15 million for the Avengers movies, as well as a percentage of [the] box office" earnings.

While that's certainly impressive, Johansson is now adding to her fortune with pay from her solo Marvel movie.

Scarlett Johansson banked on Black Widow

After years of popping up in other movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (six, to be exact), Black Widow is finally getting her own stand-alone film in the spring of 2020. Along with it, Scarlett Johansson is earning a pretty decent paycheck — $15 million to be exact. "That salary is what Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth each earned for playing Captain America and Thor, respectively, in this year's Avengers: Infinity War," according to The Hollywood Reporter. And while that makes it sound like Johansson is being paid on par, her Black Widow salary could actually be considered more impressive because she earned that much for her first solo Marvel film.

"Marvel typically doesn't open up its wallet for first outings," THR explains. "Robert Downey Jr. included, as he took home only $500,000 for the first Iron Man." Beyond that, Chadwick Boseman was paid $2 million for Black Panther, according to sources, and Captain Marvel's Brie Larson nabbed $5 million "in exchange [for signing] a seven-picture deal that locks her into multiple franchises."

However, Johansson still made less than her counterparts for her earlier appearances. While she "pulled down a low-seven figure salary for the first Avengers movie in 2012," that was "compared to Downey's $50 million." Luckily for the actress, she has other ways to top off her fortune.

Scarlett Johansson makes millions from endorsement deals

Scarlett Johansson's success in the movie business has helped her lock down deals outsides of films that help bolster her formidable fortune. Celebrity Net Worth notes that the actress "easily can earn $10-20 million per year from endorsements alone."

Formerly the face of Calvin Klein fragrances, Johansson moved on to lucrative deals with other major brands. In 2006, she began working with L'Oréal Paris to represent its HIP High Intensity Pigments and was making $3 million annually for the gig. That was the same year that she posed in her underwear for Louis Vuitton.

Those earlier deals were followed by an enviable gig in 2013 in which Johansson appeared in a Dolce & Gabbana campaign alongside actor Matthew McConaughey. The two stars played "ex-lovers with undeniable chemistry" in the spot that was shot by legendary director Martin Scorsese and surely earned the actors a pretty penny. Perhaps that was the money she used to purchase one of her many fabulous homes.

Scarlett Johansson is rich in real estate

After a long day of making million-dollar movies, Scarlett Johansson can return to one of her million-dollar homes. The actress owns multiple properties on both sides of the country and each abode is likely more amazing than the last.

"In 2018, Scarlett spent $4 million to buy a large secluded home in upstate New York," according to Celebrity Net Worth. But that's not the only place she owns in the Big Apple. Back in 2009, she picked up a $2.1 million apartment in midtown Manhattan, and in 2013, she spent $3.5 million for a home on 1.5 acres of land in Amagansett, N.Y. The next year, the star dropped $4 million in Los Angeles to nab a house in the Los Feliz neighborhood.

When you add up the value of Johansson's various homes (and add on a little for inflation and rising property costs), her real estate portfolio alone is currently worth around $20 million. While that sounds impressive, it's relatively humble for someone who's overall worth could reach $200 million in the very near future.
