The Untold Truth Of Chynna Rogers

Model-turned-rapper Chynna Rogers was found dead on April 8, 2020, at age 25 of a suspected drug overdose, James Garrow, a spokesman for the Philadelphia Department of Public Health, confirmed to NBC News. The Philadelphia native, who collaborated with the hip hop collective, A$AP MOB, was last active on social media the day before her death. "I think there's too many soundtracks to our lives," Chynna said in an Instagram video. "I need music to die to."

The musician's manager, John Miller, shared a statement on behalf of her family with The New York Times, which read, "Chynna was deeply loved and will be sorely missed." Chynna's beloved fans and friends also paid tribute on social media, including fellow artist Kehlani. "Chynna you were f***in hilarious bro... today was our last exchange of jokes & those I will miss the most," she tweeted. "I can't believe it Idk how to. I love you. So very much. My heart is officially iced."

For those who aren't familiar with Chynna, at age 14, she signed with Ford Models after being discovered at New Jersey's Six Flags Great Adventure, according to an interview with Pitchfork. The rising star later reached out to A$AP Yams while still in high school, and from there, the two became friends and collaborators. Sadly, A$AP Yams passed away from a drug overdose in 2015, per The New York Times.

Of course, there's much more to Chynna then her impressive beginnings — here's more insight into the late rapper.

Chynna Rogers didn't want to use this tragedy as an "excuse"

Chynna Rogers was very open about struggling with drug abuse in 2016, and she didn't hide going to rehab for treatment. "I did end up talking about it, because there are a lot more people dealing with this s*** than you think, and they should know that someone who looks like me or does this could have the same problem as the fiend on the corner," she said about her transparency to Pitchfork.

Tragically, exactly a year after leaving rehab, the "Selfie" singer's mom died. "My mom would be really tight with me if I used her as an excuse to fall off," Chynna said about her commitment to stay sober. "It's just more reason to work and get all this s*** done."

Despite Chynna's resilience, she expressed feeling weighed down with life at times. "If you're not depressed right now, you might be getting high," she admitted to the outlet. "Every day I wake up with new s**t to be mad about. It's too much."

Nicki Swift sends its condolences to Chynna's loved ones and pays homage to all the other celebs we've lost in 2020.
