The Truth About Vanessa Morgan's Famous Husband

Even though Vanessa Morgan and her husband, Michael Kopech, are in totally different industries — Morgan stars on Riverdale while Kopech is a professional baseball player — the two seem like a perfect match. "She's my other half. I know it's a cliché, but it really is what our relationship is about," Kopech said on the White Sox Talk podcast in January 2020.

Morgan and Kopech met via Instagram and spoke for a bit before they decided to meet in Chicago for the first time in 2018, E! News reported. "If it wasn't for social media, we would have never known each other," Morgan told E! News. "Thank you IG and Twitter for my husband." One year after their initial meeting, Kopech proposed to Morgan near the Grand Canyon, and the two tied the knot in January 2020 in front of their close family and friends in Florida.

"We both knew the first day we met that 'this is it' and I'm so excited that today officially starts our forever," the actress told E! News at the time. "Today, I vowed to love my best friend for a lifetime and it was a day spent with those we love in a room filled with endless love. I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with him."

Let's get to know Morgan's husband a little better — keep reading to find out more.

Michael Kopech had a setback in his career

In 2014, the Boston Red Sox selected Michael Kopech in the MLB draft, per MLB.com. Kopech was later traded to the Chicago White Sox in 2016, where he made his debut as a pitcher in August 2018, but, according to NBC Sports, he had to go undergo Tommy John surgery later that year so he could continue his baseball career.

Luckily, Kopech made a full recovery, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, baseball — among other sports — was suspended. Despite not being able to play, Kopech believes the surgery was "a blessing" for him. "It gave me an opportunity to step back and appreciate things in life that I probably didn't give enough attention to because I was always baseball first and everything else second," he said on the White Sox Talk Podcast in January 2020.

Kopech's wife, Vanessa Morgan, was by his side through the ordeal, which certainly helped. "I think the timing couldn't have been more perfect for the two of us," he explained. "That pivotal moment in my life — an entire year off."

He continued, "She heard all of my tears, she warranted all of my complaints ... she was a great sounding board for me. There are so many negatives that go along with a recovery like that because it's not a steady incline — it's a roller coaster. And each downfall I had, I had someone there that was able to pick me up and really show me what it was like to be appreciated."

Michael Kopech dated another celebrity before Vanessa Morgan

Before Michael Kopech married Vanessa Morgan, the baseball player dated another celebrity: Bravo star Brielle Biermann. Biermann and Kopech started dating in 2016 — a detail that Brielle's mom, Kim Zolciak-Biermann, confirmed to The Daily Dish – but the former flames called it quits in March 2018, per Us Weekly. So, what happened?

"It was more of him wanting to take a break, and he wanted me to wait on him," Biermann told TooFab in 2019. "And I was like, I'm not gonna wait on you, dude. You clearly wanna go f**k around. You think I'm stupid? I'm not gonna be waiting for you to return. I have a life, too. She added, "He was like, 'In a year, we can date.' I was like, 'Are you insane? No.'"

Ultimately, the reality star revealed their split was for the best. "It needed to happen," she added. "I just was a little in denial because no one's ever left me before. So, I was like, 'What the f**k is your problem? You have issues to leave me.' I was so confused at the time. I was like, 'Really? You're really leaving me? Okay, bye!' I was such an asshole."

Biermann and Kopech no longer chat as the reality star claimed to Us Weekly in May 2020 that Kopech "blocked" her. "I want to keep in touch," she continued. "Because I'm not a bitter ex. I actually am super happy for my exes and what's going on in their lives, but it's them."

Vanessa Morgan and Michael Kopech knew they were meant to be

In the end, Vanessa Morgan and Michael Kopech found each other at the right time and immediately knew they were meant to be. "I tell her this all of the time. On our first date, it was just so easy and comfortable and relaxed," Kopech recalled on the White Sox Talk Podcast in January 2020. "I felt like I had known her for a lifetime, and honestly, I knew right away. I know that sounds silly ... but I knew right away and we moved pretty quick."

Luckily, the feeling was mutual for the Canada native. "We moved pretty fast, but yeah, we both just knew," she gushed. "It's like that saying, when you know, you know. I never really knew the meaning of that until you just feel it, you know."

Despite both Kopech and Morgan being in the spotlight, the pair revealed they show "humility" in their relationship and don't let their egos get the best of them. "It's not about if we have a disagreement who is going to win the argument, you know. One of us is going to back down, and it's better sooner than later for the both of us," Kopech said. "It's something that we steadily work on and we continue to work on, but even in our careers, we have to check ourselves a lot of times."

It's seems safe to say that Kopech and Morgan's relationship is straight out of a fairy tale.
