The Truth About Jim Bob Duggar's Temper
19 Kids & Counting alum Jim Bob Duggar has a lot on his plate, as he's the dad of 19 children and over 15 grandkids. He also dabbles in commercial and residential real estate, and occasionally appears on the TLC spin-off, Counting On. Despite these many responsibilities, Jim Bob seems calm and collected on-camera, never raising his voice to get his point across.
Of course, it's fair to wonder if the Arkansas native's chill demeanor is nothing more than a facade. Some Duggars have led double lives, so maybe Jim Bob lets his anger out when the cameras turn off.
Amid rumors that Jim Bob isn't all he's cracked up to be, an insider who is supposedly close to the Duggars came forward in May 2020 to paint an unflattering picture of the patriarch. The allegations surfaced after Derick Dillard, Jill Duggar's husband, claimed he's writing a book about the Duggar empire and his experience on 19 Kids & Counting, as well as Counting On.
So what did this source have to say about Jim Bob Duggar's temper? Longtime fans of the show might be surprised by their claims.
Is Jim Bob Duggar's nice guy persona all for show?
For those who don't already know, Derick Dillard and Jim Bob Duggar supposedly had a falling out over Counting On, claiming he was led to believe the Duggar fam wasn't getting paid for the show. "It was presented to us as something that was done as a ministry that TLC periodically subsidized in the form of reimbursements for things ... but not any actual pay on top of that," Derick alleged via Instagram (via In Touch Weekly).
Once Derick realized Jim Bob had supposedly inked a lucrative contract with TLC and excluded his kids from the money, the gloves were off. The law student also alleged that, once he and Jill decided to leave Counting On in 2017, they faced "extreme emotional pressure from within" their family.
Derick has since stated multiple times his plans to write a tell-all, which would ruin Jim Bob, as a former employee alleged to Hollywood Gossip. "He's [Derick] definitely gonna do his book, and when he does his book, Jim Bob is done. He is done," the insider said. They added, "Jim Bob's a totally different animal when the camera's not on him."
The source also made accusations about Michelle Duggar, claiming, "You'd be in the hallway, or you'd be in the office, and all of a sudden, you hear her spouting off at these kids or running after them with a spoon or a spatula."
