The Real Reason Why Savannah Chrisley Postponed Her Marriage

Chrisley Knows Best star, Savannah Chrisley, is no stranger when it comes to letting cameras into every aspect of her personal life. That's because Savannah grew up before our very eyes on the hit reality show surrounded by her family, which includes patriarch Todd Chrisley, mom Julie Chrisley, as well as two of her four siblings: Chase and Grayson Chrisley. So when Savannah debuted her new guy Nic Kerdiles, in January 2018, it caught viewers' attention. And when Kerdiles got down on one knee in December 2018, fans were chomping at the bit to watch Savannah make that walk down the aisle.

But not so fast — Just as quickly as Savannah and the pro ice hockey player started wedding planning, soon came the whispers of the romance growing stale. Eventually, the couple did postpone their nuptials in June 2020, leading some to wonder what caused the sudden change of heart.

So is there trouble in paradise or do fans not have to worry? Read on to learn the truth about Savannah's whirlwind romance with Kerdiles and what eventually led to the postponement.

Savannah Chrisley and Nic Kerdiles' whirlwind romance

Savannah Chrisley began dating Nic Kerdiles in November 2017, and their relationship went public in January 2018, according to People. It was clear the romance came in the NIC of time (see what we did there?) for Savannah, as she noted herself in an Instagram tribute to Kerdiles. "It's kinda crazy how God works! After spending months of focusing on ME...you came along," Savannah gushed. By the end of that same year, the two got engaged.

It's worth noting that the whirlwind relationship with Kerdiles came off the heels of Savannah's very public split from another professional athlete, NBA player Luke Kennard. Anyone else noticing a pattern here? This lady obviously has a type.

In an interview with E!'s Daily Pop in November 2017, Savannah minced no words when it came to the end of the road with Kennard. "I've learned a lot of things that I don't want and that's what relationships are for. You date people to figure out what you want and don't want. Thankfully, I dodged a bullet on the last one!"

A bullet? YIKES. That doesn't sound too amicable. And although it's good Savannah found Kerdiles shortly after splitting from Kennard, maybe she moved on too fast for her own good.

Did COVID-19 delay Savannah Chrisley's wedding?

Although the coronavirus has caused many couples to cancel or postpone their weddings, Savannah Chrisley maintains that the global pandemic had zero to do with delaying her nuptials. In fact, Savannah was adamant about postponing before everything hit the fan. After announcing her decision to defer the wedding indefinitely, Savannah took to Todd Chrisley's podcast, Chrisley Confessions, in June 2020, to explain the real reason for delaying. "I just knew we had to work on things on a different level," she admitted, per People. "We had to dig deeper and it's hard. It's 2020 and you know what, it's OK not to follow the guidelines and the whole timeframe that everyone follows."

So maybe it really is just a simple case of the two young adults wanting to get to know one another better. What's more? Savannah is following the sage relationship advice a friend gave her. The reality star recalled, "She said, 'When you get married, the good things in your relationship become great and the bad things in your relationship become worse.' And I truly sat on that and I thought about it and there was just so much that Nic and I needed to work through."

Pretty sound advice, right?

What Nic Kerdiles had to say about the situation

Although it may seem odd for a couple to abruptly halt their marriage plans, the duo is taking the controversy in stride. After many questions about their wedding date or lack thereof, Savannah Chrisley released a statement to People in June 2020, assuring fans that she and Nic Kerdiles are still together. "Nic and I are great! We continue to grow each and every day and for that I am blessed!" Savannah maintained.

But that's not the first time she had to put rumors of the couple being on the outs to bed. After Savannah told E! News in October 2019 that the two were "taking steps back," rumors swirled that the pair must be over! However, Savannah's rep quickly clarified to People, "They're still very much engaged, just taking time to enjoy their relationship."

Kerdiles also shot down rumors of discord, stating on an October 2019 episode of Chrisley Confessions, "We are working on ourselves every single day and our relationship. And listen, it's not a perfect road, like we go through ups and downs. There's a lot of stuff that I need to work on, there's a lot of things that she needs to work on, and communication being one of them. So, we are very happy. We are in a good place."

So will Savannah Chrisley and Nic Kerdiles eventually walk down the aisle? For now, it appears the couple is simply enjoying their time together.
