The Real Reason Gerard Butler Split From His Girlfriend Of Six Years

Gerard Butler used to be a notorious ladies' man, and the proud Scot has been connected to quite a few women over the years. He was rumored to be dating Lindsay Lohan back in 2009, per Daily Mail, followed by socialite Goga Ashkenazi the following year. The Ugly Truth star was then linked to Serbian model Martina Rajic (via Mirror) before getting together with Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Brandi Glanville. Apparently their brief union wasn't too memorable, according to an on-screen interview Butler had with Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, which led to a fiery post on Glanville's personal blog, Bicoastal Beauty Unfiltered. After that, Butler began a longer-term relationship with actress Mãdãlina Ghenea in 2012, leading to a split in 2013.

Butler finally found a bit of stability with real estate developer and designer Morgan Brown in 2014. The couple, despite a few on-and-off moments, went strong for an impressive six years until it was reported that they were officially done (for real this time) in August 2020. But why did the unfairly attractive couple finally split? Let's take a look.

They've broken up in the past

People broke the news in August 2020 that Gerard Butler and his girlfriend Morgan Brown were finally calling it quits after six years. The two were first seen together in September 2014 in Malibu, California and seemed to be doing well until a source told People in November 2016 that they'd "split some time ago." The following July, they were spotted together again in Tulum, Mexico, per People, but they didn't last long that round as Butler told the publication in October of that year that he was "enjoying being single."

By August 2019, though, they'd gotten back together (again) and it seemed as if the duo was going strong, so the sudden ending may come as a shock to fans who've followed the famous couple. Butler and Brown haven't commented on the breakup as of this writing, but in a 2017 interview with People, Butler mentioned that he wanted to be a father within five years.

"In five years, I want to be in a relationship," he said. "I'd love to have one or two kids — it's about time." Whatever the reason, hopefully both parties are happy and healthy wherever they land.
