'Martin' Star Tommy Ford Dead At 52
Tommy Ford died on Wednesday, Oct 12., 2016, in an Atlanta-area hospital after an aneurysm ruptured in his abdomen, TMZ has confirmed.
The actor, best known for playing the character Tommy Strawn on the '90s comedy Martin, was initially hospitalized on Oct. 9, 2016 and quickly placed on life support. Family members made the decision to take him off of life support on Wednesday afternoon, according to the report.
"It is with great sadness that we announce the untimely passing of our beloved Son, father, brother, husband, and friend Tommy Mykhal Ford," Ford's family said in a statement released to People magazine. "On behalf of the family, we would like to thank everyone for their love, support and prayers. Funeral arrangements will be forthcoming. Please respect the privacy of the Ford family during our time of grief."
In wake of Ford's death, numerous actors have taken to social media to honor his legacy, including the star of Martin, Martin Lawrence.
"My brother...we were friends way b4 the Martin show & I'm glad we were able to show true friendship on-screen," Lawrence wrote on Instagram. "You brought a lot of love to the world and you will be greatly missed. God Bless to you and the family. Rest In Peace my brother. #TommyFord #Brotherforlife."
Lawrence also released a statement on Ford's death to People. In it, he said: "Tommy was not only a great costar but he was a great man and friend. He always brought with him his spirituality a positive attitude and so much joy. I am sad the world lost a great talent and that I lost a wonderful friend. God bless him and his family."
Ford was surrounded by friends and family at the time of his death, according to TMZ. He was 52.
