The Truth About Ruby Rose And The Bachelor's Demi Burnett

The Bachelor star Demi Burnett revealed on the We're Having Gay Sex podcast that she "almost died" when action star Ruby Rose DM'd her on Instagram.

Burnett made Bachelor in Paradise history in 2019, when she not only came out but got engaged to fellow contestant Kristin Haggarty — making it the show's first same sex couple proposal. Before that, Burnett had vied for a rose from Colton Underwood in Season 23 of The Bachelor. Shortly after Burnett and Haggarty called off their engagement in October 2019, Burnett said Rose swooped in on her social media.

The Aussie actor cemented her Hollywood status after appearing in Netflix's Orange is the New Black, and she's since starred opposite Keanu Reeves in the John Wick franchise, performed as part of the main ensemble of Pitch Perfect 3, and played the titular character in the first season of the Batwoman TV series. Rose tends to keep her romantic relationships fairly private, but she has previously been linked to singers such as Halsey and Demi Lovato. In fact, it was her close friendship with the latter that supposedly paved the way for her connection with Burnett.

Demi Burnett thought Ruby Rose was 'hitting' on her

Demi Burnett told We're Having Gay Sex podcast host Ashley Galvin that she began "freaking out" when actor Ruby Rose DM'd her, jokingly adding that The Meg star is "the catalyst of every girl that goes gay."

"It was really funny, because she said, 'Hey,' and I was like, 'Oh, my gosh, she's sliding in.' I was like, 'This is it,'" Burnett recalled. The reality star nonchalantly responded with a "hi, what's up," and said she tried to sound like she was doing "something cool."

Alas, it soon became apparent to her that Rose didn't have romance on the mind. Instead, she realized that their mutual pal, pop star Demi Lovato, had hoped to connect them on a friendly basis. "[Rose was] like, 'I was just messaging you because Demi Lovato told me too,'" Burnett told Galvin, noting that she'd previously told the "No Promises" singer that she was "obsessed" with Rose. "Demi was probably like, 'You should DM her, she's going to love it,'" Burnett said. "I was like, 'Oh, my gosh. I thought she was hitting on me.'"

Since her little DM exchange with the Aussie superstar, Burnett has felt sparks elsewhere. She dated musician Slater Davis for about five months in 2020, before reportedly calling it quits in June of that year, per Us Weekly.
