Surprising Things You'll Always Find In These Celebs' Fridges
A picture is worth a thousand words, but a look inside one's refrigerator will tell you everything you need to know about a person. At times, us commoners are briefly blessed with a glimpse of said celebrity's refrigerator which sends us into a tailspin: Has George Clooney ever used an air fryer? Does Jennifer Lopez have a weakness for great pizza? Which sodium-blasted delights spark Brad Pitt's 12 a.m. cravings? Is Rihanna unenthusiastic about rice cakes too, or has she found some mystical and delicious way to substitute them for the guilt-ridden tubs of Ben & Jerry's? These are legitimate questions, and we need answers.
It's no secret that Justin Bieber appreciates NoBu while endlessly decked out in the latest Drew House beanie and slippers, or that the Olsen twins are irrevocably obsessed with Starbucks' java. But what pedestrian products lay behind the refrigerator doors of A-listers and hot-shots alike? Hold on to your Cool Ranch Doritos because the answers may surprise you.
Alicia Silverstone isn't clueless about vegan living
We know her as valley girl extraordinaire Cher Horowitz from cult-classic Clueless. Today Alicia Silverstone preaches the good word of fruits, veggies, and faux leather. "Once I went vegan, I lost the weight ... my nails were stronger, and my skin was glowing. I feel great and I look better now than I did 11 years ago," the PETA Ambassador says. One peek at the vegan's refrigerator shelves could encourage even the most guarded skeptic to dip their toe in the Vromage vegan cheese pond. In a video for Women's Health, Silverstone explains that she cooks her own meals with her son. "Bear and I love to go into the garden ... the basil, the green beans, whatever we have that's growing and come into the kitchen and make food together." A breakfast of champions, no doubt, Silverstone enjoys blanched kale, squeezed lemon, flaxseed oil, and umeboshi plum vinegar.
What are her favorite vegan staples? So glad you asked. Silverstone delights in soups, pickles, sauerkraut, and of course her homemade zucchini muffins from, you guessed it, her garden. Somewhere Gwyneth Paltrow is applauding Silverstone in a series of cartwheels. Silverstone also swears by the versatility of tofu. "I bread it, fry it, but also use it for making pudding. The vegan guru insists that tofu is a safe and trusted ally. "People are scared of tofu ... they think it's going to have men grow boobies and things like that, which is ridiculous."
Meghan Markle shared the duchess diet
There's nothing quite like scoping out just how royal royals live, refrigerator shelves included. Are they fruit-forward or protein-centric? It's a deep dark rabbit hole that our procrastination loves to dive down. Which brings us to Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex. From fish tacos to turkey meatballs, she has long discussed her vast appreciation for food. As she wrote for Today, "I'm a foodie, so if I'm going to eat it, it has to be good."
During her pre-princess stint as a lifestyle blogger, Markle expressed her health views. "I try to eat vegan during the week and then have a little bit more flexibility with what I dig into on the weekends," she told Best Health magazine in 2016. Wild stuff. The California native also revealed her refrigerator staples to Good Housekeeping: "Hummus, carrots, ... green juice, almond milk." A Martha Stewart in the making, Markle says the chia seed pudding she whips up from scratch "every single week" is also on the list.
We've said it before, and we'll say it again: Duchess-ing ain't easy. Luckily, this royal shared a hot tip in the aforementioned Today piece: "It's easy to fall into the trap of rushing for a coffee when you hit that 4 p.m. slump. But if I blend some apple, kale, spinach, lemon, and ginger in my Vitamix in the morning and bring it to work, I always find that sipping on that is a much better boost than an espresso."
The Rock really knows how to treat himself
Triple threat and all-around favorite jock, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is enormous in terms of size, charisma, and stardom. It would make sense that only a Herculean helping of fuel would be needed to keep this powerhouse on truckin'. Get ready to gasp at Johnson's colossal diet.
"Generally, I eat six or seven times a day," he told Bodybuilding.com. In other words, he is living the dream. "For Hercules ... I'd eat a bunch of egg whites, filet mignon, chicken, fish, oatmeal, broccoli, asparagus, a baked potato, cream of rice, salad and complex carbs. All of this measured and weighed." Child's play, right? "It was all about hard work, discipline, and balance," the actor explained to Men's Health. Sure, if by "balance" he means "excess," then we're right on schedule! In any case, Johnson is known for his "work hard, play hard" diet approach. "The going up is always worth the coming down," The Rock said on Instagram. He's also let his IG followers know that his cheat meals are actually cheat days that include "four pizzas, 24 brownies, and 12 pancakes." Stars, they're just like us!
Of course, The Rock comes to discover that such indulgences are not without complications. "A beautiful night of decadence and sin and by 2am I was drenched in sugar sweats trying to sleep," he shared on Instagram. Sugar sweats?? Terrifying.
Kelly Ripa enjoys 'of-the-moment snacks'
Kelly Ripa is America's sunrise superstar. The morning show host made a career of boasting about her weekends in the Hamptons (because it's a hell of a vibe), which has many wondering, just what vitamin or facial cream is this energizer bunny using to arrive so abnormally bright-eyed and bushy-tailed to our morning television screens?
The waifish go-getter swears by the alkaline diet, which promotes foods that supposedly work to keep your body's pH levels low. You know, science. "It has changed my life." Ripa said on Live! With Kelly and Ryan (via Good Housekeeping). She also told Bon Appétit that her mainstays include non-fat Greek yogurt, leeks, and in a video for Harper's BAZAAR, she gave a shoutout to micro greens with avocado and toasted nuts, green veggies (shocker!), tofu, and green apples with almond butter. As she said in the aforementioned BA interview, she's also into "of-the-moment snacks that are supposed to be good for you."
So if you thought Ripa's diet border-lines plates of cardboard, you were right! "I try not to have too many cheat meals at my age now," she shared in the aforementioned Harper's BAZAAR clip. "It takes too much effort to get ready, so I just stay ready." Cool, cool. She also said she occasionally pops off with "a chocolate covered almond." We'll assume she enjoys more than one, which seems like it's even hard for her to admit in the video.
Jared Leto embraced the 'cheagan' lifestyle
Actor, director, singer, and all-around creative, Jared Leto is known for his "passionate" (read: unhinged) ways. Adorable moments include arriving to a party holding his own severed head. Just another kooky night for Leto! Why would his diet be any different?
While filming Chapter 27, Leto put on 62 pounds for the role that left him in a wheelchair. How does an ambitious actor go about accomplishing such a hefty task? According to LA Yoga, he did it by gorging on ice cream, cereal, and pizza at midnight, for starters. But wait, there's more: The outlet also noted that the actor shed 40 pounds from his already slender frame for critically acclaimed flicks Dallas Buyers Club and Requiem For a Dream. Leto's explanation for the dramatic transformations? "I enjoy the challenge of a physical role." Okay, then.
The wheelchair sitch must've gotten to Leto because the daredevil has since opted for a healthier lifestyle, telling Rolling Stone he's a "cheagan" — a cheating vegan. He continued, "If someone's mom made a cookie ... or if I'm in Alaska and there's wild salmon out of the river, I'd probably eat it." According to LA Yoga, his favorite vegan snacks are popcorn and hot chocolate made with almond milk. In March 2020, the rockstar showcased his refrigerator mainstays on Instagram, which included fruits and vegetables, fermented foods, and Ezekiel bread. Cheagan-ism looks good on you, Leto!
Khloé Kardashian is all about an organized fridge
Khloé Kardashian fancies herself a Marie Kondo of sorts. So much so that she has a semi-ongoing side gig of publishing videos all about organization. Adorable side hustle. Because when your artistic inclinations include color-coordinating your refrigerator, you find a way to market that sh**.
"Areas like this for a home owner are intimidating; a garage and a pantry, those get me really horny," she shared in one clip. Uh, not quite sure what to do with that tidbit, but okay. Kardashian offers other helpful tips, like storing beverages on the top refrigerator shelf where it's warmest, saving the cooler spaces for food. The organizing prodigy also suggests placing meats in the bottom shelves to prevent the juices from the meats to drip onto other foods. Then the Kardashian sister squeals over a bacon holder. Yes, you read that right. Let that soak in. Pun intended.
"Keep your eggs in the natural containers that they come in." Kardashian continues. "I use to have really pretty glass containers for my eggs. But I read when you transfer them they don't stay as fresh as long. And also sometimes you mix up the dates." And are your leftovers leaving exotic smells lingering about? The reality TV star swears baking soda prevents refrigerator odors. "I have three in mine because I'm crazy." Kardashian concludes with an ode to health nut sis, Kourtney Kardashian. "I only use glass containers. Kourtney is psychotic and will literally murder me if I don't."
Chelsea Handler would rather drink her calories
You may know comedian Chelsea Handler from talking a bunch on late night show Chelsea Lately, docuseries Chelsea Does, or Netflix show Chelsea. That much gabbing would have anyone reaching for replenishing beverages. Whether the drink provides hydration, caffeine, or alcohol, Handler doesn't discriminate. "I love beverages," she says on Women's Health's "Fridge Tours." "I prefer to take my calories in with alcohol or with beverages." FINALLY a diet we can get behind!
The star spills her refrigerator must-haves as chemical-free sodas, sugar-free Red Bull, Hustle Energy matcha tea, celery juice, and all the La Croix flavors, but they must be cold. "And if somebody brings up having room temperature water everyday because it's better for your system, I'd like that person to stop talking," she jokes. "I don't want room temperature water, I want cold, ice cold beverages."
Handler even offers a tip for those of us normals who don't do cartwheels for the unenthusiastically bland taste of H2O. "I really don't like the taste of water. It's boring and I think you're with me." Therefore, Handler keeps a pitcher of water infused with cucumber, lemon, and lime in her refrigerator at all times. "I like to pretend that everyday I'm at a spa." The weekend starts here!
Kylie Jenner spends her billions on snacks
In between sprawling over excess on any given Tuesday afternoon to running a multi-billionaire company, Kylie Jenner fuels with everything from pepperoni pizza to Popeyes. In true Jenner fashion, she spent a casual $10,000 on a year's worth of Postmates, because of course. But what are her tried and true essentials she reaches for in between taking selfies with Stassie Karanikolaou and spoiling Stormi? We go full Sherlock.
The Kylie Cosmetics creator confesses (tongue twisters never die) that she balances out her big Bentley-verse with liquor store stapes. "I will have to admit that I am a big snacker. Barbecue Lay's, Chili Cheese Fritos, Extra Cheesy Goldfish," Jenner tells Harper's BAZAAR. The self-made billionaire also elaborates her affection for vending machine delights on her blog (via People): "I try and eat healthy most of the time but I def love me some old-school snacks." Jenner mentions Lucky Charms, Diet Coke, Oreos, Strawberry Twizzlers, Fruit Punch Gatorade, Tiny Twist Pretzels, and Flaming Hot Cheetos—giving children everywhere the impression that one day, they too can grow up to be a Kylie Jenner.
The youngest Jenner keeps the rustic resident theme alive, admitting her favorite cheat meal as In-N-Out. "It's just for me," she says in the Harper's BAZAAR clip. Her order? So nosey! But since we're here, "A double cheeseburger with just special sauce and grilled onions. I'll either get it protein style or not depending on the mood, fries well done, and a coke."
Jillian Michaels is a stickler for supplements
If losing weight is in your peripheral, health guru Jillian Michaels is a great place to start. Michaels is personal trainer from the reality show The Biggest Loser. Then, much like how Beyonce ditched Destiny's Child to for a solo career, Michales spun off from The Biggest Loser to Losing It With Jillian. Bold. In any case, when it comes to health, Michaels knows what she's doing. Let's just say Michaels goes f***ing off on supplements. "This is where I am absolutely off the rails ... and this is a fraction of the things that I do," she said in a video for Women's Health.
Michaels revealed that her supplement stapes are bee pollen, krill oil, a green powder blend, and a multi-collagen hydrolyzed collagen peptide product with MSM glucosamine and gradient. Have questions? Don't worry, Michaels has an entire blog dedicated to more things we can't pronounce. Oh, and don't forget probiotics for both her kid and dog.
Now, if you thought supplements were taken each morning, like vitamins, you could be wrong! Micheals takes them periodically throughout the day on a delightful, non-neurotic itinerary. Fun! "I'm always looking for an extra edge in life and I personally feel that supplements help me get it," she writes. Interesting. One might think traveling or meaningful moments with loved ones give life an extra edge, but probiotics? Alrighty!
Oprah won't be caught without truffle oil
Oprah has a lot of favorite things. So much so that she pens a highly-anticipated Oprah's Favorite Things list each year (a celebrity in its own right). One item that has made the list time and time again are different truffle variations: truffle popcorn, truffle oils, truffle grits, truffle goat cheese, truffle chips. "I LUV all things truffle they're FAntaaaastic!" Oprah tweeted. Perhaps it's the exclusivity of truffles that allures Oprah so. "Finding one is like finding a gold nugget, and the competition for them is fierce," she says on her website.
Much like in the way one wouldn't leave home without their house keys, Oprah admits she keeps truffle oil at an arm's reach. "Its earthy, woody flavor makes almost everything taste better. I literally don't leave home without it. When I travel, I have a jar, my assistant has a jar, security has a jar, and it's the one thing we request in a hotel: 'Can you make sure there's truffle salt in the room?'"
Oprah even pens a love letter to the way she feels about truffles: "How do I love truffle butter? Let me count the ways. On a baked potato, on grilled steak, on a sourdough baguette. The truffle salt turns scrambled eggs, popcorn, even plain old cottage cheese into a major thrill." Stedman, who?
Gordon Ramsay is a fan of pink champagne
Surely decorated chef and host of Fox's Kitchen Nightmares, Gordon Ramsay, stocks his kitchen cupboards with the utmost quality of... whatever the world's most celebrated chefs eat. Although, here's the gist: Ramsay has a "special" quality about upselling even the most banal of culinary ingredients, promising that the start of every great meal requires simplicity. However, when "simplicity" is taken seriously in our kitchens, a bowl of cereal is the outcome and the clear winner is no one.
Ramsay told Men's Journal that first things first: pink champagne. "It always goes down well... It always seems a bit of a treat." Welp, can't argue with that, but eggs and crème fraîche are the thrilling kitchen items Ramsay swears by. "There's something really sexy about making the most amazing scrambled eggs for breakfast. Especially if your luck's in and she's doing a sleepover," says Ramsay, or should we call him Don Juan?
The chef rounds out his fundaments with a big block of aged parmesan and hummus. Yep, just regular ol' parmesan and hummus. Like we said, he's not averse to keeping it simple in the kitchen.
Robert Pattinson is a pasta innovator
Robert Pattinson has adopted the of "roll out of bed" ready lifestyle. Apparently, his feeding schedule lines up seamlessly. Pattison gave GQ a glimpse inside his quarantine kitchen adventures: "I'll have oatmeal with, like, vanilla protein powder on it." Okay, if a dorm room staple is your vibe.
"Like, I eat out of cans and stuff," he told the magazine. "I'll literally put Tabasco inside a tuna can and just eat it out of the can." Oh, and Pattinson's food diary was just getting warmed up. He wondered what would happen if, as he put it, "pasta really had the same kind of fast-food credentials as burgers and pizzas?" Pattinson went on to share his "business idea" for "pasta which you can hold in your hand."
Using a panini press, Pattinson devised a dish that consists of cornflakes, nine packs of pre-sliced cheese, sugar, "any sauce," a hamburger bun and microwaved penne pasta. Our innovator lets the spirit of Picasso take hold and molds together some sort of eight minute concoction for which he uses a lighter to complete. "I always liked the idea of doing a little flambé." Pattison calls his creation: Piccolini Cuscino, or "little pillow." Okay, we hear you Pattinson— you're a trailblazer! Now. Step. Away. From the microwave.
