The Real Reason Jim Carrey Is Ending His Career As A Political Cartoonist

Despite his continuous commentary on current events occurring in Washington, DC during former President Donald Trump's tumultuous time in the White House, comedian Jim Carrey is stepping away from the political conversation. During Trump's time in office, the comedian offered his two cents on the previous administration using one of his many talents: cartooning.

Carrey would take to social media to express his disdain for the 45th president of the United States by unveiling less than flattering cartoons of the former commander-in-chief and other members of the GOP. According to The Daily Mail, Carrey's cartoons ranged from Trump depicted as a werewolf to Trump appearing as a "flaming meteor." Upon the official end of Trump's presidency in January 2021, Carrey revealed one cartoon of incoming President Joe Biden, which featured the words: "Behold! Joseph R. Biden, a real president working for the benefit of the entire nation," with an added dig at Trump's famous "MAGA" slogan.

The actor did quit his gig on Saturday Night Live, where he portrayed Biden on the campaign trail, but fans were hopeful that Carrey's days of political cartoons would not end with Trump. Well, we have some not-so-great news.

Jim Carrey gives a heartfelt goodbye

Actor Jim Carrey has made a name for himself thanks to his impeccable comedic timing in some of Hollywood's most popular films, but it was Carrey's latest comedic outlet that really got fans on social media engaged. However, after four years of sharing his hidden drawing talents, the comedian is officially ending his career as a political cartoonist. Carrey took to Twitter to seemingly share one last cartoon, along with a heartfelt goodbye.

"Hey folks...for the past 4yrs, among other commitments, I put considerable effort into this collection of political protest cartoons," he wrote via the link included with his post. "It truly feels as though you and I have crossed an ocean of outrage together, but something tells me it's time to rest my social media gavel and reclaim a little neurological bandwidth."

The comedian continued, alluding to former President Donald Trump: "If it seemed like I was ignoring my main Twitter followers here and outside the US and Canada in my quest to rid our democracy of 'Orange Julius Caesar' and his Empire of Lies, it was not my intention. I just assumed that a radicalized America is a threat to us all," Carrey explained. "When a madman grabs the wheel of the bus loaded with innocent passengers and threatens to drive it off a cliff, it tends to steal everyone's focus." Carrey then closed out his short-lived cartoonist career thanking fans for their support. We will certainly miss the insight he brought to the (drawing) table!
