Celebs With Really Bad Breath

As much as we'd like to think of glamorous stars as practically perfect, it's a fact that at the end of the day they're just like us...only richer. While their wealth often means they can afford nice homes, the best plastic surgeons, and pricey personal trainers, some celebrities still struggle with an all too common mutual enemy, halitosis — a condition better known as bad breath.

You may shudder to think of your favorite star or starlet as offending everyone around them every time they talk, but it turns out certain celebrities are known for their funky breath.

Ben Affleck

Forget Kryptonite! Word on the street is that Ben Affleck only needed to open his mouth and breath on Superman to deliver the fatal blow in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. The rumor of Affleck's halitosis problems has been around for years, apparently dating back to Forces of Nature co-star Sandra Bullock. According to The Telegraph, Bullock complained about the leading man's bad breath.

A Fox News article claims multiple female co-stars have complained of Affleck's bad breath over the years. The common link seems to be hapless actresses who were contractually obligated to complete kissing scenes with him despite his awful breath. Talk about suffering for your craft!

Jennifer Lawrence

A-list actress Jennifer Lawrence is either highly-inconsiderate or an epic prankster. These seem to be the only two possible explanations when it comes to Hunger Games co-star Liam Hemsworth's hilarious complaints about having to kiss her during filming. Hemsworth said during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that Lawrence would always eat the sort of foods that gave her nasty breath whenever she had a kissing scene with him.

We're going to trust that when Lawrence isn't making her co-stars weep over her eating habits she keeps her mouth clean and pristine.

Britney Spears

Unfortunately, Britney Spears' bad breath rumors may be tied to unhealthy fad dieting. According to a report by PopCrush, Spears underwent an extreme diet to make sure she was camera-ready during her time as an X-Factor judge. How extreme, you ask? Try a meager 600 calories per day! It's worth noting the average adult is expected to eat between 1,600 and 2,400 calories per day, with 2,000 calories as the typical average. Regularly consuming less than 1,000 calories is considered dangerous and can have some pretty nasty consequences. Yes, that includes bad breath.

While Britney Spears may have felt the slim waistline was worth it, those around her seemed to suffer the consequences. One source even told PopCrush her breath would be smelly again within twenty minutes of brushing her teeth.

Lamar Odom

Lamar Odom's estranged Kardashian in-laws have had some not too nice things to say about the retired basketball player's breath. During Season 7 of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Kim complained to sister Khloe about how Odom's icky breath made it difficult to get physically close to him. It was so bad, Kim claimed she was ready "to throw up in her mouth" every time she went to hug him!

No doubt it was a relief for the most famous Kardashian sibling when things between Khloe and Lamar Odam went south. There's no word yet how Kim feels about Tristan Thompson's breath, but we can only guess it's a marked improvement.

Jason Segel

Jason Segel's bad breath was an unfortunate side effect caused by his addiction to smoking. It was a problem for actress Alyson Hannigan, who played his wife on the TV show How I Met Your Mother. Hannigan, who is a non-smoker herself, apparently declared she would not go anywhere near Segel unless he quit smoking. Given the two were set to play a loving couple on their show, you can only imagine how such a situation would complicate things.

"[Alyson Hannigan] left me with no other option. So I quit the day we started working, and I haven't had a cigarette since." We'd like to think that in addition to his overall health, Jason Segel's breath smell improved dramatically as well.

Johnny Depp

Despite being a heartthrob for decades, Johnny Depp seems to have no love for personal hygiene. A source told Fox411 that "he rarely showers" and doesn't consider hygiene a priority. Suddenly, Depp's enjoyment of repeatedly portraying a dirty pirate over the last decade makes sense. Bad breath rumors would also make sense, thanks to his previous smoking habit.

The combination of poor overall personal hygiene and cigarette smoke would certainly make it likely that Johnny Depp's bad breath problems are as bad as people suggest. However, as Us Weekly reports, Johnny Depp came to his own defense in February 2016. "When I met people they said, 'You do look like a hobo, but you smell really good.' And goddamn it, I smell really good!"

Angelina Jolie

She may be one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood, but apparently A-lister Angelina Jolie's breath is anything but dazzling. To get an inkling, her now estranged husband Brad Pitt once gave her breath mints as a Valentine's Day present. A source close to the couple told Us Weekly the gift was a sort of inside-joke, as Brad Pitt repeatedly teased Jolie about having terrible breath.

While some might consider the gift somewhat rude and no-doubt embarrassing thanks to the news leaking to the tabloid, the Jolie story is a pleasant reminder that it's possible to find someone who'll love you for who you are — stinky breath and all.

Jessica Simpson

Not only did Jessica Simpson confuse tuna and chicken, but apparently the blonde bombshell has also failed to grasp the importance of regularly brushing her teeth. According to ABC News, Jessica revealed during an appearance on the Ellen show that she might brush two or three times per week. What's her reason? Apparently, she really hates that "slippery" feeling that teeth get when they're super clean. Instead of routine brushing, she gets by with a combination of Listerine and daily flossing. Simpson also chews on Nicorette gum, despite being a non-smoker.

While Simpson insists this habit guarantees she has fresh breath, not only is this inadequate protection against halitosis, but as one doctor warns, her bad habit could endanger her dazzling smile! Sally Cram, a periodontist and American Dental Association consumer advisor spokesperson, told ABC News, "The biggest risk she faces is losing her teeth. You need to remove the plaque and bacteria that build up under your teeth and gums at least every 24 hours." Failure to do so can lead to tooth decay.

Hugh Grant

The Academy Awards are supposed to be the biggest night in Hollywood, the one night stars are supposed to look — and smell — their very best. Yet a report by The Guardian claims actor Hugh Grant literally stunk up the joint with his terrible breath. During the 2002 Oscars, Grant's bad breath was reportedly such an issue that his fellow A-listers begged him to do something about it.

Apparently during that same ceremony, Grant's friends gave him mouthwash to gargle before stepping on stage. We can only hope being so embarrassed on such a big night will encourage him to take his bad breath issues more seriously.
