The Truth About Abigail Spencer And Meghan Markle

In 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle decided that they'd be giving up their royal duties and spending more time in the US, working and bringing up young Archie. Many things have since happened for the couple — including a multi-million Netflix deal where the two will be making films and docuseries that inspire people.

With their royal duties now being non-obligatory, the two also now have a lot of time to catch up on their friends and family, especially in the US. One such meeting happened when the pair met Abigail Spencer for a New Year's day hike in Vancouver, according to The Sun. Meghan's fans, especially those who have followed her career right from her appearance in "Suits," may have found Spencer's face familiar.

So who is Abigail Spencer, and how is she related to Meghan and Harry? Is there more to their relationship than just feeling acquainted enough with each other for a New Year hike?

Meghan Markle knew Abigail Spencer before she joined 'Suits'

Abigail Spencer and Meghan Markle were actually born mere hours apart from each other on August 4, 1981. The two were said to have met during an audition over a decade ago. According to Grazia, Spence first saw Markle and was astounded by how "gorgeous" she was. "I saw her and was like, 'Who is this gorgeous girl?'" Spencer said of their first encounter. "She was just so stunning and there was just something about her."

Their friendship grew even stronger when they started filming "Suits," in which Markle played Rachel Zane, while Spencer played Dana Scott, who happened to be a recurring character on the show.

Spencer also made it to the guest list of Meghan and Prince Harry's wedding on May 19, 2018. She was seen entering St. George's Chapel with Priyanka Chopra. Even though Spencer didn't have much to say about how the wedding event was like, she did reveal her thoughts on the kind of gift that the royal couple would like.

"I think what [Harry and Meghan] would love is [for people] to donate to one of the charities that they are involved in," she told ET. "That's where her heart is," Spencer explained. "I think they need nothing more and want for nothing, but also would just love for anybody pour out their hearts and wallets into the organizations that they're involved in."

Spencer was also present at Archie's baby shower, which was held in New York in 2020.

Abigail Spencer has defended Meghan Markle against bullying claims

When Meghan Markle faced a bullying claim from a close advisor at Kensington Place, Abigail Spencer stood by her friend while she went through media trials. Spencer took to Instagram to write a long post in defense of the Duchess of Sussex.

"There are some people who are so bright and exude such deep purpose that they change the molecules in the air simply through their being. She was all of this from the moment I met her fourteen years ago. And remains so to this day," Spencer wrote in Meghan's defense. "Meg walks the walk. She's a doer. In the face of darkness, she shows up in light and in love. When they go low, she goes high. Again and again. She works tirelessly – and often quietly – for the causes she believes in."

"There are some people who are so bright and exude such deep purpose that they change the molecules in the air simply through their being," Spencer wrote alongside the photo of the two friends hugging. "She was all of this from the moment I met her fourteen years ago."

She even went on to praise her commitment to service along with her husband Prince Harry. "She and Harry are an incredible team," Spencer said. "They are dedicating their lives to lifting up and amplifying those who do not have a voice for themselves." These two friends are clearly in it for the long haul.
