Who Is Gayle King's Daughter, Kirby Bumpus?
Gayle King seems like the ultimate mom. She's always dispensing advice and she tells it like it is, even if the truth sometimes hurts. The 66-year-old has two children with her ex-husband William Bumpus, daughter Kirby and son Bill Jr., according to The Sun.
Although King loves her children, she knew staying home full time with her kids wasn't an option. "I knew from the time that I was pregnant that I was not going to be a stay-at-home mom," she said in a Q&A for "CBS This Morning" Eye-Opening Mom's series (via The Huffington Post). "I love working and I happen to believe that if you're happy in your life and you're happy in what you're doing, it makes you a better person, it makes you a better mother, it makes you a better partner and it makes you better at your job."
Despite her busy schedule, she always made time for her children. "I'm happiest when I'm spending time with my son and daughter," she told Us Weekly in 2012.

Gayle King is going to be a grandma
Gayle King can add grandmother to her resume because her daughter Kirby Bumpus is pregnant! The 66-year-old delivered the happy news on the April 28 episode of "CBS This Morning," adding that she is expecting her grandchild in December. King is thinking about what the baby will call her, and asked show guest John Legend for his advice. "I definitely don't want to be Granny," she told Legend (via Page Six). "You know something about writing songs. Maybe you can come up with a name for me."
King also appeared on the April 28 episode of "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" where she chatted more about her upcoming grandchild and even said the family is keeping the sex of the baby a secret. King is the oldest of four girls and is hoping for a boy. "My whole life I wanted a big brother," she told DeGeneres. "I just thought that people with big brothers were lucky. So I always like a firstborn to be a boy, then the second one is a girl. Then you have a big brother that takes care of you. That's just my own little fantasy."
According to her LinkedIn profile, Bumpus resides in Washington, D.C., and serves as the head of social impact and inclusion at Sweetgreen. The 32-year-old married Virgil Miller in December 2020 in a small ceremony at godmother Oprah Winfrey's Santa Barbara estate.
