What Mark Ronson Revealed About His Sexuality After Split With Ex-Wife

British songwriter and record-producer Mark Ronson married French actor Joséphine de La Baume in 2011 after two years of dating. E! News reported that La Baume filed for divorce in April of 2017. The reason she cited was irreconcilable differences. While the couple didn't have children together, La Baume reportedly requested spousal support. They reached a divorce settlement in October of 2018, although the terms were not released to the public.

Following the divorce, the "Nothing Breaks Like a Heart" co-singer struggled with creative block as a result of the emotional turmoil he was going through (via Vice). "Anytime we tried to do something upbeat, I'd come back the next day and never want to hear it again. What I was going through affected the music in every way," he said in 2019.

Ronson believed the divorce was a wake-up call, stating that he'd be ignorant to think his past breakups meant he was just unlucky in love. He noticed that the common thread running through all of his failed relationships was him and decided to start working on recognizing his unhealthy patterns.

Despite his struggles, the DJ says music has become even more redemptive for him now. "I'm accessing deeper parts of it. I look to music for an authentic connection ... Music has always been the most important part of my life. It's probably saved my life," he told Vice. Another development to come from the split was Ronson opening up about his sexuality. Read on to see how he now identifies.

Mark Ronson is apparently attracted to intelligence

According to The Daily Star, Mark Ronson came out as sapiosexual following his split from Joséphine de La Baume in 2018. The 45-year-old music producer is attracted to people who are intelligent, which takes precedence over other factors of attraction, including physical appearance and gender. After suffering emotionally from the divorce and going on to record a number of heartbreaking and melancholy songs on his album "Late Night Feelings," Ronson appeared on Good Morning Britain where he opened up about his sexual preferences.

In front of the cameras, Ronson declared, "I didn't know that there was a word for it ... but yes, I feel like I identify as sapiosexual." Hosts Ben Shephard and Kate Garraway praised Ronson for being "out and proud." However, Rolling Stone reported that Ronson was mocked for his confession on social media sites, including Twitter. Many users criticized the attention he was getting for "coming out" when they didn't feel sapiosexuality required much courage to disclose. Some argued that sapiosexuality should not be included as a sexual orientation, but rather as a sexual preference, claiming that categorizing it as the former is insulting to marginalized sexual identities.

Rolling Stone later reported that Ronson apologized for his remark about being sapiosexual, stating in a live interview that his comment had been taken out of context. He said, "I do not consider myself part of any marginalized community, and I apologize if anybody misunderstood or took offense to it."
