Doctor Who Teases Peter Capaldi's Final Season With New Trailer

When the shocking and emotional season 9 finale of Doctor Who aired nearly a year and a half ago, it left us with the departure of companion Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman), and the Doctor (Peter Capaldi) left without a trace of Clara in his memory.

The show's often hit proverbial button had been reset, if you will. And although fans had two Christmas specials in the meantime to tide them over, the Doctor is finally back in on April 15th with the show's season 10 premiere.

Late yesterday evening, Whovians everywhere got their first proper look at the new season with the BBC's brand new trailer. As expressed in E! Online's analysis of the trailer, it looks to be full of epic explosions, quick quips, Daleks, robots that speak in emojis, and the return of Missy (Michelle Gomez), plus much more.

However, this season will mark a multitude of massive endings. Over a year ago, Steven Moffat, showrunner and head writer, announced he would be leaving the show and would be replaced by Chris Chibnall of Broadchurch in 2018 (via E! Online).

Additionally, Peter Capaldi recently announced he would play his final run as the Doctor this year. After rumors had circulated for months, the actor revealed the news to Jo Whiley of BBC Radio 2 in January: "This will be the end for me. I feel sad. I love Doctor Who, it's a fantastic program to work on. It's been a huge pleasure to work with a family." But, he continued, "I feel it's sort of time for me to move on to different challenges."

But with the arrival of new companion, Bill (Pearl Mackie, via BBC News), it will also be a season of new and exciting beginnings. The goodbyes will undoubtedly be difficult as the season comes to an end, but luckily for the fans, the aforementioned jam-packed trailer teases the adventures the Doctor, Bill, and Nardole (Matt Lucas) will soon face – and it looks like it's going to be loads of fun.
