Who Is Hillary Clinton's Hot Nephew?
Since (unintentionally) setting social media ablaze with his appearance at the 2016 Democratic National Convention, Tyler Clinton has become the talk of the Internet. Between his good looks, budding modelling career and reported all-around sweetness, Hillary and Bill Clinton's nephew has stolen hearts around the world. But despite being catapulted into the limelight, Tyler remains quite the mystery. In fact, he has left many of his newfound fans wondering about the details of his life story. If you're curious to learn more, simply read on to discover 10 quintessential facts about the undeniably cute Clinton.
He's the son of Bill Clinton's half-brother
Tyler Clinton is the only child of Bill Clinton's half-brother, Roger Clinton Jr., and his love, Molly Martin.
Roger was born Roger Cassidy Clinton on July 25, 1956 in Hot Springs, Arkansas and, in the late 1990s, tried his best to launch an acting career. However, despite his efforts, his only roles came in the form of appearances in B-movies, such as Spy Hard (1996), Bio-Dome (1996) and Retroactive (1997).
Meanwhile, Tyler's mom, the daughter of a Dallas policeman, was an aspiring singer when she and Roger met at a local race track in Arkansas. The couple decided to tie the knot on March 26, 1994. At the time, Martin was juggling working at a software company and "working as a warm-up act for sitcoms for the television producers and Clinton pals Linda Bloodworth-Thomason and Harry Thomason," according to the New York Times.
He's the primary reason his parents got married
Tyler Clinton's parents got married in 1994 in his mom's hometown of Dallas, Texas when Molly Martin was just 25 years old and eight months pregnant. The entire Clinton family was on-hand and, as the New York Times reported, the president, AKA Bill Clinton, was actually the one who handed his half-brother the rings.
Tyler's dad reportedly told a radio station (per the Times) the night before the nuptials that although he and Martin had always known they would eventually get married, the "baby sort of sped things up." He later added in a TV interview that he and Martin were just "trying to sort of, like trial and error, do the right thing at the right time."
His name has a sweet backstory
Tyler Clinton's full name is Tyler Cassidy Clinton and there's a very sweet reason behind why his father, Roger Cassidy Clinton Jr., decided to pass 'Cassidy' on to his son. Although Roger and wife Molly Martin chose not to learn the sex of their baby until he or she was born, Roger knew he would be giving his child his mother's maiden name, no matter what. "It's going to be something Cassidy Clinton," he told a reporter shortly before the birth, according to the New York Times. Although that part came true, Roger's chosen name for a possible son didn't. The couple was originally thinking of naming their baby boy Austin Cassidy Clinton.
He went viral following the 2016 Democratic National Convention
Tyler Clinton was relatively unknown to the world when he showed up at the 2016 Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia to help celebrate with his aunt, as she was crowned the official Democratic Nominee for President. While many focused on the historic moment, an equal amount of folks tuning in couldn't help but wonder about the identity of the handsome young man on stage who was congratulating the possible first female president on her nomination.
Tyler instantly went viral and practically broke the Internet with men and women of all ages sharing their newfound love for him online. Tweets like "The best part of this Presidency will clearly be @HillaryClinton's nephew #TylerClinton #HOLYHELL" from @RyanLammer and "Hillary Clinton's hot nephew Tyler could delete my emails any day of the week TBH" from @sbstryker soon took over Twitter.
An old photo shoot solidified his fame
Following the Internet freakout Tyler sparked with his appearance at the 2016 Democratic National Convention, media outlets dug up an old photo shoot the aspiring model had done, which, despite not having caught much traction before, really served to solidify his fame.
The photos, which were originally taken in 2015, show Hillary's hunky nephew modeling fashions from denim labels 7 For All Mankind, Citizens of Humanity and Superdry. What's more, all three brands actually have a close family connection to the Clintons, as they're owned by Gerard Guez, founder of the Tarrant Apparel Group (the brands' parent company) and close friend of Tyler's dad, Roger.
He's a nice guy and an activist
Following his quick rise to fame, Entertainment Tonight reached out to Los Angeles-based fashion photographer Adina Doria (who shot Tyler for his now infamous denim spread in 2015) and asked for insight on what Tyler Clinton is like in real life. "Working with Tyler was amazing," Doria told the outlet. "He was incredibly professional, very well-mannered and a truly genuine person. He was friendly to everyone on set."
Doria went on to tell ET that, in addition to being a great model and an all-around nice guy, Clinton is also a passionate activist. "I learned he and his girlfriend are very active in the LGBT rights movement," she revealed.
He graduated from Loyola Marymount University
Clinton graduated from Loyola Marymount University in California in May 2016 and received his bachelor's degree from the College of Communication and Fine Arts, as reported by the university. Both Hillary and Bill Clinton were in attendance and the president actually received an honorary degree. He also gave the commencement address at the ceremony.
"For most of human history, adults had no choice about what they did with their waking hours," declared Bill Clinton, addressing the class of 2016, which included his nephew. "But you can 'set the world on fire' because of the empowerment of your education and the empowerment of your circumstances." He went on to conclude: "So, do well, do good. Have a good time doing it. And remember: It's the journey that matters. Set the world on fire in the right way."
He scored a modelling contract with IMG Models
Following his meteoric rise to fame, one of the biggest agencies in the business came knocking and in April 2017, Tyler Clinton signed a modelling contract with IMG Models. The famous agency is known for working with the biggest supermodels in the world and some of their clients include the likes of Ashley Graham, Karlie Kloss and Gigi and Bella Hadid.
As confirmed by TMZ, Clinton is now actively working as a professional model under IMG and even made the move from Los Angeles to New York City, so that he could pursue his new career full-time and be available for any and all contracts.
He was arrested on serious assault charges
On November 10, 2016, just two days after the election that saw Hillary Clinton lose the White House to Republican opponent Donald Trump, it was reported that Tyler Clinton had been arrested on "suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly striking a man over the head with a bottle in a violent bar brawl."
Radar Online was the first to exclusively obtain the news and confirmed with Sergeant Jon Radus of Fullerton Police Department that the brawl did indeed take place, but that it actually happened a year earlier on June 18, 2015. The altercation went down just after midnight at a nightclub in Fullerton, California and, "upon arrival, [police] contacted a male, later identified as Tyler Clinton, who had already been detained by Security at the night club," Sergeant Radus told Radar Online. "Victims and witnesses accused Clinton of striking the victim over the head with a beer bottle."
Despite being arrested for assault with a deadly weapon, no charges were ever pressed.
His dad has been arrested multiple times
Roger Clinton has earned quite the bad reputation with law enforcement over the years due to his numerous run-ins with the law. According to the Washington Post, the mid-1980s, he was "arrested for selling cocaine to an undercover police officer" and plead guilty after the crime was captured on video. He was charged and sent to jail where he spent an entire year behind bars.
Although his half-brother, President Bill Clinton, gave him an official pardon on January 20, 2001, which completely cleared his record, Roger was arrested again shortly thereafter, over two decades after his incarceration. This time around, it was for "drunk driving and disorderly conduct." Then, in 2016, he had yet another encounter with police in southern California when he was arrested for driving under the influence just hours after Hillary Clinton finished rallying for votes in Sacramento.
