2017 Tony Winners: Dear Evan Hansen, Hello, Dolly! Sweep

As expected, Dear Evan Hansen swept the night at the 2017 Tony Awards on Sunday, June 11th, 2017, winning an impressive six.

The critically acclaimed musical, about a teenager who lies to a family about being friends with their son after the son commits suicide, took home the night's top honor, Best Musical, as well as the award for Best Actor in a Musical for its star, Ben Platt.

Rachel Bay Jones, who plays Evan Hansen's mother in the show, won Best Featured Actress in a Musical.

Meanwhile, the much-hyped revival of Hello, Dolly! won Best Revival of a Musical; Best Actress in a Musical for its star, Bette Midler; and Best Featured Actor in a Musical for Broadway veteran Gavin Creel.

Over on the play slide, Oslo took home top honors for Best Play and, in a surprise, Best Featured Actor in a Play (Michael Aronov). Other big winners included Laure Metcalf, who won Best Actress in a Play for A Doll's House, Part 2; Cynthia Nixon, who won Best Featured Actress in a play for The Little Foxes; and Kevin Kline, who won Best Actor in a Play for Present Laughter.

Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812 entered the night with 12 nominations, the most of any other show. It wound up winning only two: for Best Scening Design of a Musical and Best Lighting Design of a Musical, respectively.

Fellow Best Musical nominee Come From Away won a surprise win for Best Direction of a Musical while Groundhog Day, nominated for seven Tonys, went home empty handed.
