Justin Bieber Drops New Single 'Friends'
Despite canceling his Purpose World Tour, Justin Bieber isn't pressing pause on his music.
E! News reports that the 23-year-old released a brand new single, titled "Friends," on Thursday, Aug. 17, 2017. BloodPop, who wrote some of the songs on Bieber's previous album, reportedly produced the sure-to-be hit.
The song, which describes Bieber's hopes to remain close with an ex, features lyrics like "Girl, you wonderin' why I've been callin'? / Like I've got ulterior motives / No, we didn't end this so good / But you know we had something so good," and "So I'm wondering, can we still be friends? / Can we still be friends? / Doesn't have to end / And if it ends, can we be friends?"
While the lyrics themselves may sound hopeless, Billboard notes that "the bouncy electronic beat of the track would fool anyone that it's actually as happy as it sounds."
Bieber's clearly been excited about the song's release, as his Instagram page is filled with posts promoting the single.
As Nicki Swift previously reported, Bieber canceled the remaining 14 dates on the Purpose World Tour—much to the disappointment of fans. Bieber later spoke out about his reason for canceling the tour, stating that he needed time off to be "sustainable."
He explained, "I want my career to be sustainable, but I also want my mind heart and soul to be sustainable. So that I can be the man I want to be, the husband I eventually want to be and the father I want to be."
Not sure what being a husband and father in the future has to do with finishing up a tour in the present-day—but hey, maybe Bieber's little vacation will do him some good. At least he's still pumping out new music for his fans.
