Will Smith, DJ Jazzy Jeff Debut First New Song In 19 Years

Think Will Smith had given up on his music career? Think again.

Rolling Stone reports that the Collateral Beauty actor debuted a brand new song with buddy DJ Jazzy Jeff (real name Jeffrey Townes) at the Livewire Festival in Blackpool, England on Sunday, Aug. 27, 2017. The song, called "Get Lit," is their first new musical collaboration in 19 years—their last single being "Lovely Daze" back in 1998.

"Let me see those lights," Smith can be heard telling the audience in a video of his performance. "We gon' brighten up the darkness in this world."

In an interview published on Aug. 28, Smith told NME, "I wanted to make a song that allowed people to let their light shine. We all have an inner light and sometimes this world...people can say stuff to you and tell you you can't do and you know you can but when they tell you that it kinda knocks you down a bit right so I wanted to make a record that reminded each and every one of y'all to let your light shine."

But Smith, 48, and Jeff, 52, didn't just share their new track with the Livewire crowd. On Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2017, Smith posted a video of himself performing the single on Facebook, writing, "Been messing around in the studio and wanted to try this new track on the fans in Croatia and U.K..... no plans, no pressure... just back to basics with DJ Jazzy Jeff! Here's 'Get Lit.'"

As Entertainment Tonight notes, Smith and Jeff launched their entertainment careers in the 1980s with the formation of their musical group Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince. Smith later snagged a leading role on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, on which Jeff appeared as the best friend of Smith's character.

While we wait for more music to be released from Smith and Jeff, catch up on what the cast of Fresh Prince looks like today.
