Harvey Weinstein Fired From The Weinstein Company Amid Sexual Harassment Accusations

Film producer Harvey Weinstein has been fired from his own company.

On Oct. 8, 2017, The Weinstein Company Board of Representatives released the following statement: "In light of new information about misconduct by Harvey Weinstein that has emerged in the past few days, the directors of The Weinstein Company ... have determined, and have informed Harvey Weinstein, that his employment with The Weinstein Company is terminated, effective immediately."

Weinstein's termination comes just days after The New York Times published an article alleging three decades of sexual misconduct by Weinstein. Ashley Judd and Rose McGowan are among the women who have made sexual harassment claims against Weinstein over the course of the past thirty years.

After The Times published the report, Weinstein decided that he was going to take a leave of absence from the company that he co-founded with his brother, Robert, in 2005. On Oct. 5, 2017, he penned a lengthy apology that was then published by the newspaper following their report.

"I came of age in the 60's and 70's, when all the rules about behavior and workplaces were different. That was the culture then. I have since learned it's not an excuse, in the office — or out of it. To anyone. I realized some time ago that I needed to be a better person and my interactions with the people I work with have changed. I appreciate the way I've behaved with colleagues in the past has caused a lot of pain, and I sincerely apologize for it. Though I'm trying to do better, I know I have a long way to go. That is my commitment."

The 65-year-old was also recently dropped by his advisor, Lisa Bloom, who resigned her post on Oct. 7, 2017.
