Pamela Anderson Faces Backlash Following Controversial Comments On Harvey Weinstein's Accusers
The Baywatch alum is being slammed over recent comments.
Pamela Anderson faced major backlash on social media this week after making controversial remarks on Harvey Weinstein's sexual misconduct scandal during an interview on Megyn Kelly Today, which aired on Thursday, Nov. 30, 2017.
"When I came to Hollywood, of course I had a lot of offers to do private auditions and things that made absolutely no sense," the 50-year-old said, after discussing her own experience with sexual abuse during her childhood (via Us Weekly). "[It's] just common sense: Don't go into a hotel room alone. If someone answers the door in a bathrobe, leave. These [are] things that are common sense."
"It was common knowledge that certain producers or certain people in Hollywood are people to avoid, privately. You know what you're getting into if you're going into a hotel room alone," Anderson continued. "I just think there's easy ways to remedy that. That's not a good excuse."
Anderson was immediately criticized on social media, but she refused to back down on her statements. "Somebody had to say this," she wrote on Instagram on Friday, Dec. 1. "I'm a deep thinker / I have a unique perspective. And consequence is part of my life. This is great. I am also an advocate for men. I just don't agree with it all. Backlash is good. – I like this. My position is not 'problematic' because I don't fall in line with the common herd or trend....I think it's very smart to be proactive. And I stand by what I say."
Over 80 women have accused Weinstein of sexual harassment, sexual assault, and/or rape since The New York Times published a shocking exposé detailing his 30-year history of alleged abuse in October 2017. Since then, multiple sexual misconduct scandals have rocked Hollywood.
While we wait to see if Anderson apologizes for her comments, read up on how other celebrities have reacted to the Weinstein scandal.
