Ed Sheeran Releases 'Perfect' Duet With Beyonce

The British singer has teamed up once again with none other than music icon Beyoncé.

On Thursday, Nov. 30, 2017, Ed Sheeran dropped a new version of his song "Perfect," featuring the vocals of Beyoncé (full name Beyoncé Knowles-Carter). The original song was released as part of Sheeran's ÷ (Divide) album, which came out in early March 2017. Unlike the record's track, however, Sheeran and Beyoncé, backed by acoustic music, each sing separate verses before joining together for the song's final chorus.

Sheeran spoke out about the new single on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and explained how he'd hoped to re-release the song as a new track. "The [original] song came out so long ago in the scheme of music ... and I was like, I want to do it as a single, and then I thought of a way of relaunching it," the 26-year-old told host Ellen DeGeneres. "I was like, 'I love Beyoncé. Should I ask Beyoncé?' And then in my head, I was like, 'She's going to say no,' and then I was like, 'Well, you might as well ask.'"

He concluded, "And she said yeah, so here we are."

Sheeran also revealed that "Perfect" was inspired by his relationship with girlfriend, Cherry Seaborn. "We went to high school together," he said, noting that they'd been together for three years. "She's really cool. We live together. We have cats."

Prior to their collaboration on "Perfect," Sheeran and Beyoncé performed a tribute to Stevie Wonder together, along with Gary Clark Jr., in February 2015. They later debuted an acoustic version of Beyoncé's song "Drunk in Love" at New York City's Global Citizen Festival.
