Dakota Johnson Gave Another Huge Star Their First Tattoo

Dakota Johnson is best known for her acting talents in the "Fifty Shades" film series, but it was after a screening of her film "The Lost Daughter" that the actor added a new talent to her resume: tattooing.

Johnson is no stranger to tattoos and has several of her own. In fact, during a 2021 interview with James Corden on "The Late Late Show with James Corden," Johnson revealed that she has "like 11 or 12" tattoos. The "Fifty Shades" star told Corden that she has come to regret some of the ink, including a tattoo she has of the Latin phrase "acta non verba" ("actions not words" in English). Johnson got the tattoo in honor of her famous father Don Johnson, who apparently uttered the phrase quite a bit when she was growing up. However, these days, Johnson deems the ink "too serious."

Some of the actor's other tattoos include a wilting flower and the phrase "tender" on one of her arms (via Page Six), which she has displayed on numerous red carpets. Although Johnson has her fair share of tattoos, following a "Lost Daughter" cast party, she actually found herself on the other end of the needle.

Olivia Colman gets tattooed

In an interview with Town&Country, Dakota Johnson revealed that the cast of "The Lost Daughter" enjoyed having dance parties, a tradition started by the film's director, Maggie Gyllenhaal. It was at one such dance party after a screening of "The Lost Daughter" at the New York Festival that Johnson inked fellow costar Olivia Colman

According to the outlet, while out on the town at a restaurant in Soho, Johnson and Peter Sarsgaard, who also appears in the film, gave the restaurant's DJ their playlist. Johnson shared the vibes from that night saying, "It was a lot of Talking Heads, the Cranberries." When the cast arrived back at their hotel, Johnson appeared with a tattoo kit and the rest is history. While as of this writing, neither Johnson nor Colman have revealed where the tattoo or what it's of, Colman did share her thoughts on getting the tattoo. "Maybe it was me being completely seduced by this gorgeous person and wanting her to think I was cool," Colman said (via Town&Country), adding, "Or maybe it was my midlife crisis."

In the same interview, Johnson shared her thoughts on post-pandemic parties, noting that the joy of being out and about sometimes results in people "not behaving normally." Johnson just might be right as, judging by Colman's response to the situation, it certainly seems like randomly getting inked was an out of character move.

Olivia Colman and Dakota Johnson's friendship

For actors, starting a new project can be nerve-wracking when it comes to meeting co-stars and wondering if they'll get along. There have been times when actors were completely repulsed by their co-stars, but that doesn't seem to have been the case for Olivia Colman and Dakota Johnson.

Despite having a few blockbusters under her belt, Johnson was still nervous about meeting Colman. In a 2021 Elle interview, Johnson recalled thinking, "Well, I was like, 'I wonder what she's going to be like?'" Luckily for Johnson, there was nothing to worry about because the pair quickly hit it off. "... [W]e loved each other. She's so maternal and embracing and always wants to hang out and drink wine and talk," Johnson told the outlet.

It seems the bond only continued to grow between the two, and Johnson has even gushed about her co-star on the red carpet. Now inked with Johnson's tattoo, it's likely the two won't soon forget that bond.
