The Bachelorette Alum You Forgot Demi Lovato Dated

Reality TV isn't real life, but "The Bachelor" has made impressive strides in blurring the boundaries between the Mansion and the rest of the world. That's because former "Bachelor" and "Bachelorette" stars keep getting lost in Hollywood and dating outside Bachelor Nation. Forget limos and First Impression Roses — the key to a lasting romance might be about making a connection on social media. Who knew?

Just ask "Modern Family" actor Sarah Hyland, who began trading flirty tweets with "Bachelor" alum Wells Adams when he was bartending on "Bachelor in Paradise," according to People. Of their meet-cute, Adams later said, "The internet — it's amazing." In 2017, the couple confirmed their romance to E! News, and in August 2022, Hyland and Adams officially tied the knot.

However, perhaps the most infamous A-lister to make a love connection with a former "Bachelor" contestant was Gigi Hadid, who began following Tyler Cameron on Instagram during his time on Hannah Brown's season in 2019. Throughout their brief relationship, Cameron and Hadid went to Lake George on a mini vacation, and she even introduced him to Serena Williams. Per Us Weekly, things fizzled by October of that year. But the fact remains: Go far on a reality show, and you could have a chance with a model or a Grammy nominee like Demi Lovato.

Fans may have forgotten that the "Cool for the Summer" singer once dated a "Bachelor" contestant, too — coincidentally, right around the same time as Hadid!

Demi Lovato and Mike Johnson went on a few dates

Things didn't work out between Mike Johnson and Hannah Brown, but Johnson nabbed an arguably even bigger prize. After saying goodbye to Brown, the reality star found a romantic connection in Demi Lovato's Instagram DMs. Lovato was the one to make the first move by publicly thirsting after Johnson with a series of Instagram Story posts, per People. Afterward, it didn't take Johnson long to start commenting on Lovato's bikini pics. In September 2019, an insider told E! News that the couple had gone on a date. "They seem to have a lot in common and are just enjoying getting to know each other," the source added. Johnson also shouted out how much he'd appreciated Lovato's attention during his time on the show. "It made me feel sexy. It made me feel good. It's pretty awesome. It's pretty cool— I'm not gonna deny it," he told E! News.

In a separate interview with E! News, Johnson reiterated that he and Lovato were keeping things low-key. "I think [Demi is] absolutely fantastic, and I don't want no pressure on her, no pressure on me, we're just trying to get to know each other. That's all," he said. During an appearance on Ashley Iaconetti and Ben Higgins' "Almost Famous" podcast, Johnson complimented Lovato for being great kisser. Maybe it was this comment that caused Lovato to pull the plug. (After all, a gentleman never kisses and tells.)

Demi Lovato ended things with Mike Johnson

Shortly after Mike Johnson complimented Demi Lovato on her lip-locking skills, Lovato ended their brief romance, per People. A source later corroborated the report to E! News explaining, "Nothing happened; [the fling] just ran its course. Demi was interested in Mike at one point — but it was short-lived, and she wasn't ever planning on dating him seriously."

However, the "Confident" hitmaker didn't seem to take kindly to Johnson speaking about her to the media. Johnson alluded to this during an appearance on "Good Morning America," saying, "I made a mistake, I don't like dating in public," (via Refinery29). The reality star then quickly rebounded by asking Keke Palmer out on-air in what turned out to be a highly awkward exchange. Thankfully, co-host Michael Strahan came to Palmer's rescue. "Mike, I'm going to tell you something, right? Demi is my girl. I love this one here, too. Now you mess up, I'm coming for you," he joked. Let this be a lesson to all: Sometimes, taking a risk in the love department pays off; sometimes, it backfires.

Still, things seem to have turned out just fine for Johnson. According to Bachelor Nation, he's since moved to Mexico to become a sex coach, write a book, give a TED Talk, and host "Talking It Out with Bachelor Nation" with fellow "Bachelor" alum, Bryan Abasolo. As for Lovato, she is thriving in the wake of dropping her new album, "Holy Fvck."
