The Real Reason Amanda Seyfried Moved Her Family To A Farm

Since coming into fame in 2004 when she gave us the quotable Karen Smith in "Mean Girls," Amanda Seyfried has been full of surprises. Though she's had her fair share of rom-coms, Seyfried also stunned us when she played the intense Elizabeth Holmes in "The Dropout," showing how immensely versatile this actor truly is. But, even having been in the industry for two decades, Seyfried has never fit the mold of the "Hollywood type."

In 2011, Seyfried told Interview Magazine that she dealt with being typecast as the blonde, which isn't what she wanted. She wanted the freedom to control her own life. "When you're on stage as a musician, it's just you, isn't it?" she told Justin Timberlake. "You're in your own world. You control it. You decide how far you go. You decide everything. It must be hard for you, especially when you're so used to performing in that kind of situation, to come into the situation of working on a film and lose all of that control that you're used to having."

For someone who prefers to have control, it makes sense that Seyfried chose not to call Tinseltown or the Big Apple home.

Living on a farm is what she's always wanted

Many people made big changes amid the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly in 2020. Actor Amanda Seyfried is no exception. She and her husband Thomas Sadoski left New York City for a farm in upstate New York for a change of pace. Seyfried told "Molner's Table" in August 2020 that the change has also been good for her marriage. "I live on a farm. It's what I've always wanted," she told the outlet, noting that she has technically owned the property since 2014. Her mother also lives on the farm, which is a big help with Seyfried's two kiddos.

Us Weekly connected with a source who said being in the country fits the vibe of Seyfried and her family. "The vibe [in Hudson County] just suits them all as a family; they love being around nature and away from the hustle of city life," the insider told the outlet. All the critters she has around on her farm certainly make it look like a sanctuary — and having all that space must be heavenly for Seyfried's best pal, Finn the dog.

Seyfried has an affinity for animals — which is perfect for farm life

When it comes to animals, Amanda Seyfried is a big fan. Her adopted best friend, Finn, can be found all over her social media — but she also collaborates with him. In 2018, Seyfried worked with the Best Friends Animal Society in their Save Them All Campaign with Finn. "When you adopt, you not only save a life, but you end up with an amazing friend," she said in the campaign. "Please adopt your next pet from a shelter or a rescue group. By working together, we can Save Them All."

Being on a farm makes it so Seyfried can surround herself with creatures like her ponies, goats, donkeys, and a cat. She told "The Kelly Clarkson Show" (via People) that she had 20 animals on her farm as of 2021. Finn has even found himself an animal bestie with a duck that lives on the farm. Clarkson joked that the way Seyfried talks about her animals makes it sound like they should have a movie created about them (via People). We agree. Let's get that feel-good farm film going!
