Why Todd Chrisley Was Never A Fan Of Daughter Lindsie's Marriage To Will Campbell

It's certainly no secret that Todd Chrisley has a complicated relationship with his daughter Lindsie. Per Us Weekly, things have always been tense between the pair since Lindsie decided to elope with her then-husband Will Campbell in 2012. However, after Todd publicly accused his daughter of being unfaithful in her marriage, the father-daughter relationship turned completely sour in 2019. At the time, Lindsie had filed a complaint against her father and half-brother, Chase, for reportedly trying to extort her over an alleged sex tape. Todd denied the allegations but claimed Lindsie had extramarital affairs with "The Bachelor" alums, Robby Hayes and Josh Murray. "We have tried to keep Lindsie's extramarital relationships ... private for her sake since August of 2016," the "Chrisley Knows Best" star said, per E! News. "Sadly, for reasons we can only guess at, she ran to the sheriff's office to accuse her brother of buying a sex tape of her and Robby, which was a complete lie — and now she's telling more lies about me."

The father-daughter duo would become estranged for years until 2021 when Lindsie and her husband split after nine years of marriage. In her podcast "Southern Tea," Lindsie said her divorce from Will ultimately paved the way for healing between her and her father, per Page Six. And though he previously disapproved of their union, Todd said in his podcast that he was sad to learn about the split (via Us Weekly). But what exactly was Todd's issue with his daughter's marriage? Here's a look.

Todd Chrisley said he felt disrespected

Todd Chrisley has made no secret of his disapproval of Lindsie's marriage to Will Campbell, particularly with how things started, as he'd told E! News. "I don't think that the marriage started out the way that it should have, and certainly not the way that a father would like to see a marriage start," Todd said. "You know, a father has his dreams when ... a young man is going to come and knock on the door one day and say, 'Mr. Chrisley, I love your daughter so much, and may I have her hand in marriage?' That never happened." He said not only was there a lack of regard for him but for Lindsie as well — and that his daughter shouldn't have tolerated that "kind of disrespect" toward herself. "I don't believe that people disrespect you unless you allow it," he said. "We never condoned that from our children; we don't condone it from a third party."

Nevertheless, the "Chrisley Knows Best" star acknowledged that the couple did "very well on their own" after they got married. He also praised his son-in-law for being a great provider and "excellent father" to his grandson, Jackson. Todd echoed a similar sentiment when Lindsie announced her split from Will in 2019. In his "Chrisley Confessions" podcast with his wife Julie, Todd thanked not only Will but his family for being a loving and constant presence in their grandson's life. "I hope that that will continue because I want Jackson to have as little disruption as possible," added Todd (via Us Weekly).

Todd Chrisley showed his support for Lindsie's new relationship

Since her separation from Will Campbell in 2019, Lindsie Chrisley has welcomed a new man in her life, People reported. The "Chrisley Knows Best" alum announced her romance to her fans via Instagram on September 28, 2022, over a year after her divorce from her ex-husband. "I prayed for you," said Lindsie, without revealing her new boyfriend's identity. She also got candid about their relationship struggles, saying things have not been perfect as they get to know each other more as individuals and "parents of our collective children" (suggesting they are both single parents). "Who decides what's perfect anyway?" she remarked. Sharing her excitement about their future, Lindsie said, ⁣"I can't wait to see how we grow together in all aspects as this relationship has opened my eyes to so many things in life. For the first time in a long time, I feel like I'm exactly where I'm supposed to be."

Her father, Todd Chrisley, expressed his happiness for the couple in the comments section of her post. "I'm so happy for you both and love you with all my heart," wrote Todd. "God is good and always on time." Recently, the reality star said he is "thankful and grateful" for his years-long estrangement from his daughter, as it had brought them closer (per People). He also acknowledged how he and Lindsie needed all that time away from each other. "This all had to happen," he said of their rift. "You and I, I don't believe, would be where we are today without the estrangement."
