Drake And Millie Bobby Brown's Strange Relationship Explained

We already know Drake is a pretty popular guy. The rapper has a number of close friends that are familiar faces, from the likes of Nicki Minaj (who he admitted while chatting on her "Queen Radio" influenced his taste in women) to Future (who Drake described as being "an absolutely relentless, spontaneous workhorse" while chatting to GQ) — but there's one star you may not expect him to be so close with.

That person? None other than "Stranger Things"' Eleven actor Millie Bobby Brown. Yep, the two may make for a somewhat unlikely duo, but it turns out they've actually been friends for years after first meeting in 2017 while Down Under. Drake was a big "Stranger Things" fan and struck up a conversation with the then 13-year-old at the Brisbane Supernova Convention in Australia (where Brown was actually spotted wearing her very own Drake hoodie mere days after their first meeting, by the way). And this is what happened between the twosome after that.

Millie Bobby Brown said she loves Drake

Drake and Millie Bobby Brown's friendship only went from strength to strength after their Australia meeting, with the latter immortalizing their first interaction on social media with a snap of herself and Drake (who was totally cheesin') as he put his arm around her. "This guy..." she captioned the upload on Facebook with a red heart. The following year, Brown revealed just how close they'd become when she admitted she'd often text the "One Dance" hitmaker. "I love him. I met him in Australia and he's honestly a great friend and a great role model. You know, we text. We just texted each other the other day and he was like 'I miss you so much,' and I was like 'I miss you more,' he's great," she told "Access Hollywood." Brown also revealed she was looking forward to seeing Drake when he visited Atlanta, and shared he gave her advice about boys. "He's great, he's wonderful, I love him," she continued, but noted she wasn't keen to reveal their exact messages to the world.

Though Drake stayed a little quieter about his friendship with Brown in interviews, he was accused of commenting "Loool" under a since made private March 2022 TikTok video that suggested he was looking forward to Brown's 18th birthday. The clip suggested the two could date after Brown's milestone day which made Drake's apparent response a little eyebrow raising, though Page Six reported the comment was a total fake.

Millie Bobby Brown was forced to defend her relationship with Drake

Naturally, Millie Bobby Brown's confession that she shared a texting relationship with Drake raised a few eyebrows, as she was a young teenager at the time and a whopping 17 years younger than the "Hotline Bling" rapper. Plenty voiced their concern on social media, with one person tweeting, "drake texting millie bobby brown is f***king strange she is less than half his old a*s age like he could be her dad." Another Twitter user wrote, "The whole thing with Millie Bobby Brown and Drake texting is weird. It's weird. Out here in the real world, would you be okay to find out a 31 year old is regularly texting your 14 year old daughter/son/brother/sister/ETC. It's just not okay."

That uproar caused Brown to defend her relationship with Drake on Instagram Stories in September 2018 — and she wasn't having anyone make something shady out of her platonic relationship with her pal. "Why u gotta make a lovely friendship ur headline? U guys are weird... for real," the "Stranger Things" star hit back (via Vibe). Brown added that one of the things she and Drake bonded over is knowing what it's like to be in the spotlight, noting, "I'm lucky to have people in the business extend their time to help me further my career and offer their wisdom and guidance. I'm very blessed to have amazing people in my life. U don't get to choose that for me."
