The Disagreement Prince Harry Once Had With Elton John

Prince Harry's friendship with Elton John stems back from way before he even knew him. John was a good friend of Prince Harry's mom, the late Princess Diana from when they met in 1981 at Prince Andrew's birthday party. John recalled in his memoir, "Me" (via People) that upon meeting the Princess of Wales, they "immediately clicked." The memoir reads, "We ended up pretending to dance the Charleston while hooting at the disco's feebleness." The two were so close, the singer performed "Candle in the Wind" at her funeral in 1997.

He reunited with Prince Harry and Prince William on stage 10 years later in a tribute concert for Princess Diana. Since then, John has maintained a close relationship with Prince Harry and even invited him and Meghan Markle to stay at his home in Nice, France after their son Archie was born. While the visit was supposed to be about rest and relaxation, an incident came up that almost put a dent in Prince Harry and John's friendship.

Prince Harry was unhappy about Elton John's links to this British tabloid

Like with any friendship, Prince Harry and Elton John's didn't come without its hiccups. In his memoir "Spare," Prince Harry recalled bringing up a point of contention to John during his last night in Nice (via Huffington Post). John had wanted to serialize his autobiography, "Me" in the Daily Mail. Prince Harry asked why the "Your Song" singer chose the publication that made his life "miserable," to which John responded that he simply "wanted people to read" his memoir. As a friend, the Duke of Sussex chose not to push the matter, adding, "I loved him. I'll always love him. And I also didn't want to spoil the holiday."

Prince Harry has apparently let bygones be bygones. During John's farewell tour in 2022, Prince Harry and Markle shared a sweet video praising the "I'm Still Standing" singer. "[Thank] you for entertaining everybody for so many decades, thank you for being the friend that you were to my mum, thank you for being our friend, thank you for being friends to our kids, thank you for entertaining people right around the world," the Duke of Sussex gushed, per Marie Claire.

Prince Harry and John's friendship has also forged a bond between Markle and John's husband, David Furnish. The two are collaborating on an animated series, "Pearl," set to stream on Netflix, per Hello! Furnish had nothing but praises for Markle, calling her "a fantastic collaborator, amazing leader."
