Before fans knew Hailey as the wife of Justin Bieber or as a model for Victoria's Secret, people often wrote her off as just another young celebrity reaping the perks of being in a famous family. Hailey is the daughter of actor Stephen Baldwin, whose brother is Alec Baldwin.

By changing her last name, Hailey separated herself from the Baldwin clan upon her marriage to Justin. But her choice to do so wasn't because she hated it. She told Bustle, "I'm very proud of my family name. I come from a great family with a history in this industry. I remember when I was going to change it, I asked my dad if he was going to be upset and he was like, 'No! I don't care. We love you. All good, everyone still knows you're a Baldwin.' It's true!"

While Alec Baldwin and Hailey Bieber are amicable, they don't seem to be that close. However, he admitted that he doesn't communicate with them much about their relationship. He told Rachael Ray, "People ask me, they say 'Are they getting married, Hailey and Justin Bieber?' And I said on some show, I said, on some red carpet, I said, 'I guess 'cause that's what I read online. I don't know anymore than you do.'" So, how well does Baldwin actually know Hailey? In a 2018 red carpet interview with "Access Hollywood," Uncle Alec commented on her and Justin's marriage. He said, "I don't know what the deal is because we text Hailey every now and then, we met him one time, but as I said, when you get married, I think it works best if you could really be together." Baldwin also revealed that, when it comes to relationships, he's not one to be overly protective of his niece. In October 2021, cinematographer Halyna Hutchins died on the set of "Rust." Alec Baldwin accidentally killed her after misfiring a prop gun, per Deadline. According to the outlet, the director of "Rust," Joel Souza, suffered critical injuries. Following the shocking tragedy, Baldwin maintained his innocence. On an episode of "The Chris Cuomo Project," he said, "The man who's the principal safety officer on the set of the film declared that the gun was safe when he handed it to me." In 2023, Baldwin was convicted of involuntary manslaughter, per AP News.

When the gut-wrenching incident occurred, Baldwin's niece, Hailey Bieber, shared some heartfelt words on social media. On her Instagram Story (via People), she wrote, "Sending all my love to the family of Halyna Hutchins. This is a truly unimaginable and devastating tragedy. My thoughts are also with Joel Souza as he recovers. I am absolutely heartbroken for everyone involved." While Bieber wasn't outspoken about her uncle's involvement in the incident, she seemed to display her support in a diplomatic way.
