Celebrities Who Treat Their Significant Others Like Trash

Love isn't easy, but it's a whole lot harder when your significant other treats you like utter trash. Though Hollywood relationships are notoriously short-lived (blame the pressures of fame and red carpet-worthy egos,) some stars are undeniably terrible partners. From Gwyneth Paltrow, who's totally willing to admit she's hard to date, to Chris Brown, who was put on probation for his disturbing crimes against Rihanna, the spectrum of inconsiderate partners is notably vast. There are hundreds of ways to hurt the one you love — and even more if you've got money.

Not every celebrity bad boy (or girl) stays that way, though. Some regretful partners actually do change. Take Adam Levine, for example, who allegedly apologized to his exes before settling down, or Justin Bieber, whose plea for forgiveness infected airwaves in 2015. Then there's John Mayer, who still seems sort of bitter about that one Taylor Swift song (yeah, we're still waiting on the world to change, too.)

If the bad press is true, these celebrities are notoriously inconsiderate partners whom you wouldn't want to date.

Johnny Depp's reputation came under fire

Johnny Depp and Amber Heard met while filming 2009's "The Rum Diary," and a volatile romance ensued. The pair married in February 2015, but by the end of May 2016, Heard had filed for divorce. The split came just days after she claimed Depp had been physically abusive on multiple occasions. TMZ obtained an image that appeared to show red bruising on Heard's face, particularly around her eye, which she alleged was the result of her estranged husband hitting her with his iPhone. Heard was eventually granted a restraining order, but Depp denied the allegations. An LAPD spokesman later told People that following their investigation, there was "no evidence of any crime."

The contentious he said, she said was the first in a slew of headline-making court cases between the exes. Most notably, Heard wrote an op-ed for The Washington Post in 2018, claiming, "I spoke up against sexual violence — and faced our culture's wrath." She didn't mention Depp by name, but even so, he filed a defamation suit against her in 2019. Along the course of the trial, Depp seemed to not take it very seriously. While Heard made allegations that her ex physically and sexually assaulted her, the actor denied her claims and kept busy doodling and drawing viral sketches with colored markers. He eventually won the lawsuit in 2022 and was awarded $10.4 million in damages.

Chris Brown called himself a 'monster'

In 2008, it seemed like Chris Brown and Rihanna were hip hop's It couple. The pair met as teenagers at the Vibe Awards, and over the next few years, they grew from collaborators to best friends to totally in love. Unfortunately, not all was as rosy as it seemed from the red carpet.

In 2009, TMZ released disturbing photographs of Rihanna, who was reportedly beaten by Brown after a pre-Grammy party. Not long after this, the full police report surfaced online, and Brown pleaded guilty to felony assault. He was sentenced to five years probation and six months community labor, reported Billboard. Brown later admitted in the documentary "Chris Brown: Welcome to My Life" (via People) that he "felt like a f***ing monster" after the incident with Rihanna.

He eventually did find love with model Karrueche Tran. Unfortunately, old patterns appeared to resurface. According to E! News, Tran alleged Brown punched her in the stomach, pushed her down the stairs, and threatened to shoot and kill her on numerous occasions. Tran was granted a permanent restraining order after sharing angry texts in which Brown threatened to "beat the s***" out of her.

Mariah Carey has allegedly 'had issues'

Mariah Carey has certainly been through the ringer when it comes to love. Her early marriage to her label boss Tommy Mottola was allegedly so abusive that she had to get permission to leave the house. She also endured a traumatic child abuse investigation (she and then-husband Nick Cannon came out in the clear) and a highly publicized mental breakdown. Through it all, Cannon seemed to be a solid support for the troubled singer. It was only after the pair divorced that Carey allegedly started treating her romantic partners like garbage, and it was fiancé James Packer who supposedly bore the brunt of that bad juju.

According to Daily Mail, Carey allegedly threw Packer's laptop out a window in 2016 because he played a Beyoncé song. The pair split before tying the knot, with Carey's team claiming she wasn't happy with his behavior. Packer's rep fired back, telling People, "[T]ypical Mariah to just twist things that don't sound good to her. They split because she has issues."

The following year, one of Carey's former security guards threatened to sue the songstress for sexual harassment. According to TMZ, he claimed she exposed herself to him and intentionally performed sexual acts while he was in view.

Carey came clean about her struggle with bipolar disorder in early 2018, so perhaps she has changed for the better after seeking treatment.

Brad Pitt was 'boozing or had a spliff' every day

Brad Pitt has certainly had some tumultuous relationships, and if you asked his ex-wives, he seems to be the common denominator.

In the early '00s, Pitt's divorce from Jennifer Aniston prompted the press to essentially frame the actress as the world's saddest lady for the rest of her career. What happened? Pitt supposedly had an emotional affair with co-star Angelina Jolie on the set of "Mr. and Mrs. Smith." The new lovers claimed they took things to the next level only after his split with Aniston, though Pitt later said the aforementioned movie is his favorite because, as he told Rolling Stone, it's where he "fell in love."

And get this: Before Pitt's divorce from Aniston was finalized, he posed for an epic W magazine photo shoot with Jolie. The piece, titled "Domestic Bliss," cast the two "friends" as a sexy husband and wife with kids. In response, Aniston told Vanity Fair that Pitt has "a sensitivity chip that's missing."

As for Brangelina, they appeared to have it good for nearly a decade, but in 2016, they went through an explosive breakup and nasty custody battle. Pitt told GQ that substance abuse was at the root of his relationship's "self-inflicted" collapse. "I can't remember a day since I got out of college when I wasn't boozing or had a spliff, or something," he said.

Though that all sounds awful trashy, Pitt has since reportedly embarked on a cleaner lifestyle.

Calvin Harris: perhaps not the best romantic collaborator

It seems like mixing business with pleasure is a recipe for disaster — at least for Calvin Harris' girlfriends. The Scottish DJ has a terrible track record when it comes to working with his significant others.

His 2014 split with pop star Rita Ora seemed amicable until Harris allegedly blindsided her by publicly announcing their breakup on Twitter (via Billboard) months after the fact — weird, but okay. Things got worse from there. Ora was scheduled to perform her hit "I Will Never Let You Down" at the 2014 Teen Choice Awards, but Harris reportedly wouldn't give her legal permission to do so. Ora had to cancel the performance because Harris owned the copyright.

If Harris' experience with Ora didn't reach peak-level petty, the demise of his relationship with Taylor Swift certainly did. The drama unfolded when fans discovered Swift helped write Harris' Rihanna collaboration, "This Is What You Came For." Swift used the pseudonym "Nils Sjoberg" to reportedly avoid overshadowing anyone on the track (girl gets a lot of attention). After its release, Harris claimed he "couldn't see" himself working with Swift — something Swift's camp apparently took as a mega-burn and whad'ya know, word soon got out that Swift helped Harris write the track.

Harris eventually came clean, but in the same breath, he also accused his ex of trying to make him look bad in a Twitter tantrum (via Us Weekly). As ill-fated as that tweetstorm was, Harris did eventually apologize.

Justin Bieber's sorry track record

Back in 2018, Jalena was still an inescapable force. The notorious relationship began in 2010 when Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber were innocent teens on an innocent date at IHOP. Oh, how things went so wrong in a few long years (it felt like a lifetime, did it not?).

Bieber was reportedly not the best boyfriend to sweet Gomez. After all, he allegedly penned the track "Sorry" about the "Good for You" songstress. What does he have to be sorry for? A whole lot. Some highlights include the time he got into a fist fight with Orlando Bloom after allegedly hooking up with Bloom's ex-wife. This move seemed purely spiteful because Gomez was rumored to be canoodling with Bloom at the time. While Gomez was struggling with Lupus, Biebs was busy getting arrested for drunk driving and resisting arrest, egging his neighbor's home, and urinating in a custodian's mop bucket. Classy.

Though they had both dated other people when apart, these two kept winding up together. In 2018, after reportedly reuniting for the umpteenth time, Gomez's mom, Mandy Teefey, admitted in an interview with Gossip Cop that she was "not happy" about the rumored return of the Biebs (via Teen Vogue).

Adam Levine owed a lot of ladies apologies

Adam Levine may have a voice that's sweet as sugar, but the way he's acted in past relationships is anything but.

Lavine allegedly dumped his supermodel girlfriend Nina Agdal by completely ghosting her. According to Us Weekly, he stopped answering her calls, then eventually informed her of his engagement to on-and-off flame and fellow model Behati Prinsloo through a text message.

Levine certainly has a way with words in his songs, but when it comes to real-life communication, that's apparently not the case. He allegedly also dumped Jessica Simpson via text message. He embarrassed cocktail waitress Rebecca Ginos by telling Howard Stern (via E! News) they had sex on the first day they met, and he shamed actress Lindsay Lohan by simultaneously saying that he never slept with her and that she probably slept with a lot of people. Oh, and he reportedly mortified Victoria's Secret model Anne Vyalitsyna by telling the world they used the "pull-out method" (via The Daily Beast).

It seems Levine has never been one for relationship tact, though he did allegedly reach out to his exes to apologize before marrying Prinsloo in the summer of 2014.

Tom Cruise: relationship impossible

Most of us remember Tom Cruise's relationships by their fairy-tale moments, like his famous movies alongside Nicole Kidman, or that time he jumped on Oprah's couch to exuberantly proclaim his love for Katie Holmes. What we don't remember are how those love stories played out.

Amid his growing dedication to Scientology in 2001, Cruise abruptly filed for divorce from Kidman after 10 years of marriage. Though Kidman admitted to DuJour Magazine (via People) that it was a "shock to [her] system," she did quip to David Letterman (via The Standard), "At least I can wear heels now." In no world is stealthily exiting a decade-long marriage like it's "Mission: Impossible" commendable behavior, but apparently, Cruise did it anyway.

His relationship with Katie Holmes, which was long rumored to be a contract marriage, may have been even more out of control. According to Mirror, Holmes had to follow a long list of bizarre marriage rules, including complete silence during labor. She allegedly wasn't allowed to utter a single peep while delivering Suri, and according to some reports, she feared for her safety after filing for divorce because of the church.

Of course, this is speculation at its finest, but it's certainly the kind of trash talking that would make us wary of another Cruise wedding.

Gwyneth Paltrow: architect of misery?

Gwyneth Paltrow has painted herself a well-intentioned (albeit sometimes clueless) wealthy single mama. She spends her days promoting bizarre vaginal steam spas and $1,220 casserole dishes. Nothing about her carefully crafted image would lead us to believe she's a terrible romantic partner, but the actress has admitted she has her flaws.

"I'm actually a pretty good friend, and a good sister and daughter and mother, but I'm at my potentially most vulnerable and f***ed up in the romantic slice of the pie," she told "Girlboss Radio" (via E! News).

Paltrow does at least make an effort to "consciously uncouple" rather than ghosting her flames, and that's probably why she remains in good standing with most of her exes. However, that doesn't mean dating the Oscar-winning actress is all roses. According to E! News, cheating rumors emerged when Paltrow was spotted kissing her ex, Donovan Leitch, at a Dodgers game just six days after announcing her split from Coldplay frontman Chris Martin.

In the past, Paltrow has admitted that her relationships rarely make it past six weeks and that — as she told Diane Sawyer (via ABC News) — she's sometimes the "architect of [her] own misery." Well, at least she's honest.

Rob Kardashian takes social media rants to a whole new level

Kardashians generally take the moral high road when it comes to relationships — from Khloé Kardashian supporting her troubled ex-husband during his recovery to Kris Jenner supporting her ex-husband's transition into womanhood long after their divorce. Rob Kardashian is the exception to the rule.

Rob's relationship with Blac Chyna seemed insanely tumultuous by tabloid accounts. These included the explosive fights documented throughout their reality TV show, "Rob & Chyna," abuse claims and restraining orders, and their apparent affinity for airing their grievances on social media.

In 2017, after an exhausting year and a half of on-and-off dating, Chyna took to Snapchat (via Us Weekly) to claim Rob beat her up. She also allegedly sent Rob a video of herself kissing another man in an effort to get him to leave her alone. Rob countered by posting several explicit photos of her online in what appeared to be some sort of deranged (and potentially criminal) hours-long social media rant.

This incident was the final straw for Chyna, who filed a restraining order. Her lawyer, Lisa Bloom, had this to say in a statement (via CNN): "Mr. Kardashian, you are now on notice: revenge porn is illegal. Cyberbullying your ex is harassment. ... Your attempts to shame and control [Chyna] are hereby rejected."

Emma Roberts: love story or horror story?

Actress Emma Roberts may look like an innocent girl next door, but that doesn't mean she isn't vicious when it comes to matters of the heart. Rumor has it the actress physically abused her boyfriend, actor Evan Peters.

The couple reportedly met while filming "Adult World" and were later cast together in "American Horror Story." For the first year or so of their relationship, they were the poster children for millennial power couples. Then came 2013, when Roberts was arrested for allegedly assaulting Peters in Canada, as TMZ reported. Though Peters reportedly suffered a bloody nose and bite marks, he didn't press charges, and Roberts was released.

According to a totally real and not at all made up source that spoke to OK! magazine, Roberts has also brought her problematic relationship issues to set. "Basically, as soon as the director yells, 'Cut,' Emma and Evan are making out. That is, if they're not screaming at each other," said the anonymous insider.

The two later got engaged but called it quits in 2019, putting their trashy moments together behind them for good.

Ronnie Ortiz-Magro, maybe lay off the Ron Ron Juice?

You don't have to watch "Jersey Shore" for long to realize Ronnie Ortiz-Magro doesn't have much tact when it comes to relationships. Audiences may recall the anonymous note some housemates typed to warn Sammi "Sweetheart" Giancola about her man's trifling ways. The infamous note (via MTV) said that when Giancola wasn't around, Ortiz-Magro "put his head between a cocktail waitress' breasts," made out with two girls, and "was grinding with multiple fat women." Believe it or not: Those weren't his worst offenses.

As Life & Style reported, the star's relationship with Giancola was the most toxic on the show. How could it not be when it was clouded with a heavy stream of "Ron Ron Juice" and fights that escalated to the point where he actually tried to throw Giancola and her entire bed onto the porch? If you think Giancola had it bad, you haven't yet seen "Jersey Shore: Family Vacation."

After Ortiz-Magro settled into the Miami house, it didn't take long for him to completely forget about his pregnant girlfriend Jen Harley. He invited a group of girls back to use the hot tub and did something suspicious behind a closed bathroom door. Later that year, Ortiz-Magro appeared to have a physical fight with Harley on Instagram Live.

We should mention that Harley was arrested for domestic battery after allegedly dragging her baby's daddy with a car, as Us Weekly reported, so let's give thanks these two have since called it quits.

Jax Taylor can't pump the breaks on his wandering eye

Every reality show needs a villain. For "Vanderpump Rules," Jax Taylor is the guy for the job. Sure, Taylor has done some pretty noble things in his time on the Bravo series. He paid for girlfriend Brittany Cartwright's breast implants and even convinced her to go bigger than planned. "I'm ready to throw some Ds on this," he told doctors (via Daily Mail). "Go big or go home." What a sweetheart, right? Wrong.

Fans who've been with the series since the start remember when the reality stud cheated on Stassi Schroeder with her best friend, Kristen Doute. Years later, Schroeder introduced him on her podcast "Straight Up With Stassi" (via Bravo) as a guy who did "bad things on the reg." Taylor has been surprisingly open about his flaws (at least the ones he's self-aware enough to recognize). He admitted to Schroeder that he "didn't think" before cheating. "I just did it, and I didn't care."

Cartwright and Taylor became an item after meeting in Vegas in 2015. Though she claimed to Bravo's The Daily Dish that he fell in love with her "at first sight," he's got a funny way of showing it. According to Bustle, he floated a salacious rumor that he walked in on Cartwright having sex with Doute, but in reality, he was the one sneaking around. In Season 6, we learned that Taylor slept with ex-SURver Faith Stowers and had been trashing Cartwright, as Us Weekly reported. He has since sought reiki healing.

We've lost count of Jesse James' affairs

There's a reason Jesse James is a notorious Hollywood bad boy. The guy has a terrible track record with women. Beloved Oscar-winning actress Sandra Bullock famously divorced the "Monster Garage" star after he was caught cheating on her with the kind of gal who'd allegedly tattoo a swastika on her stomach. Not only did he mess with Miss Congeniality, but he also told Daily Mail that cheating is a "part of life" and "a lot of good" came from the dissolution of his marriage. Nice, right?

Mistreating America's sweetheart wasn't an isolated incident. According to People, he announced his engagement to tattoo artist Kat Von D less than a year after divorcing Bullock, telling Howard Stern (via Us Weekly) that she was better in bed. Six months later, Von D called off the wedding, claiming in a lengthy Facebook post that James cheated on her with 19 different women. Shocking, right?

James them moved on to wife No. 4, billionaire heiress Alexis DeJoria, who had been subject to the same cheating scandals as the women before her. In an interview with InTouch, hair stylist Myla Harris claimed she exchanged racy social media messages with James during his relationship with DeJoria. Was this — or the fact that by 2020, DeJoria and James had decided to divorce — really news?

Kristen Stewart sucked the life out of her Twilight lover

Kristen Stewart may not have treated all her partners like trash, but she certainly did a doozy on Robert Pattinson. The "Twilight" lovers had the kind of glittering romance that Hollywood dies for (figuratively, of course, considering vampires live forever). Less than four months before the premiere of "Twilight's" final installment, Stewart found herself embroiled in one of young Hollywood's most shocking cheating scandals.

According to Us Weekly, she became romantically involved with director Rupert Sanders while filming "Snow White and the Huntsman." When photos emerged of the pair making out, "Twilight" fans were stunned. Sanders had a wife and children, by the way.

"I lit my universe on fire and I watched it burn," the actress told Marie Claire (via Daily Mail) at the time. "Speaking very candidly, it was a really traumatic period in my early 20s that kick-started something in me that was a bit more feral." So there you have it. She's more werewolf than vampire, after all.

Sienna Miller may have been a Bond villain in training

When you catch your British hunk cheating with the nanny, it's time to get yourself a James Bond-worthy love triangle — at least if you're going by the Sienna Miller playbook. According to Reuters, when a tabloid journalist pulled a 007 and hacked into actor Daniel Craig's cellphone, the spy found an incriminating voicemail of Miller saying "I love you" to the James Bond star. She was still with the philandering Jude Law at the time.

During the News Corp. phone hacking trial, Miller addressed the incident to London's Old Bailey Court (via Reuters), reportedly describing Craig as her best friend. "Whether or not I was in a relationship with Daniel Craig at the time, it was a very brief encounter," she said. Law also owned up to grilling Craig about the alleged affair during the trial.

The starlet has admitted to doing "immoral" things. "When I wasn't at work, I wasn't behaving the way you should," she told Esquire (via Us Weekly). Perhaps she was referring to the whatever-it-was with Craig, or maybe she was alluding to her affair with actor Balthazar Getty, who was married with four children when he ran off with Miller. "I probably seem like not a particularly nice person, not a girl's girl," she told GQ (via Us Weekly).

Peter Cook reportedly likes them young

Model Christie Brinkley and architect Peter Cook had a notoriously nasty divorce battle. In an interview with Matt Lauer (via Us Weekly), Brinkley claimed her husband was purposely making her miserable. "I just want peace. And every time I have any joy or any kind of success in anything, he has to try to destroy it," she said.

Here's the thing: Peter Cook didn't just cheat on Brinkley — he reportedly cheated on her with a teenager he hired as an assistant. According to "Today" (via People) Cook met Diana Bianchi when she was 18 years old. Their trysts occurred at the office and in Brinkley's homes in The Hamptons. During their divorce trial (via The Sydney Morning Herald), Bianchi testified that Cook "hid cash for her under a rock and gave her $15,000 to help her buy a Nissan Maxima." When the affair ended, he reportedly sent Bianchi a $300,000 payout because he was concerned about her filing a sexual harassment lawsuit.

According to Page Six, Cook's divorce from Suzanne Shaw was equally ugly. She claimed in an email that he had a "pathological" desire for young women and filmed himself with a prostitute. Page Six also reported that he was spotted taking "creepy" photos of girls without their knowledge and snuggling up to a 21-year-old student.

Eminem was a 'bad husband'

Eminem may be a rap icon, but the star rose to fame off the back of controversial lyrics that depicted extreme violence against women. Some of his songs targeted his ex-wife Kim Mathers, the mother of his child. A track titled "Kim" depicts a disturbing fantasy about a murder-suicide. It was so vulgar it was left off the clean version of "The Marshall Mathers LP."

In an interview with Dr. Keith Ablow (via People), Kim claimed Eminem's abuse led her to attempt suicide. Things reportedly came to a head when she saw her on-and-off husband beating up a blow-up doll that looked like her onstage. "When Marshall's first tour started is when his ego just went 'poof,'" she told Ablow. "Like he was God, that's what he thought. ... I was just told that I should be grateful that he still talks to me."

In 2017, Eminem released the track "Bad Husband," in which he apologizes to his ex-wife.

Wilmer Valderrama kissed and told and told and told

Wilmer Valderrama — yes, the dude who played Fez on "That '70s Show" — is one of Hollywood's most covert playboys. His dating history reads like a who's who of early '00s teen stars. Though Us Weekly reported that the actor remained a rock for long-term girlfriend Demi Lovato after their relationship ended, he wasn't always such a loyal guy.

The actor revealed some not-so-nice things during a salacious interview with Howard Stern. According to The Daily Beast, he gave actress Jennifer Love Hewitt a sex rating of eight; called singer Ashlee Simpson "a screamer," and commented on actress Lindsay Lohan's waxing habits. The class act also allegedly lied about taking Mandy Moore's virginity, claiming, "The sex with Mandy was good, but it wasn't like warm apple pie." Moore told Elle that Valderrama's story was "utterly tacky," untrue, and hurtful.

If you date this guy, you may want to make him sign a nondisclosure agreement.

Kris Jenner's cheating is her 'biggest regret'

Kris Jenner is running an empire, but somehow, she still had time for the odd affair. There have long been rumors that the Kardashian matriarch bedded O.J. Simpson — and that the football star is Khloé Kardashian's real father. Those rumors, which Simpson refuted, are so notorious that Khloé even cracked a joke about them in 2016.

The truth is that Kris did have an affair but not with Simpson (at least as far as we know). According to Us Weekly, the momager owned up to cheating on Simpson's attorney, Robert Kardashian, with soccer player-turned-animator Todd Waterman in her 2011 memoir "Kris Jenner ... And All Things Kardashian." On an episode of "Kocktails With Khloé," the "Revenge Body" star admitted that her mother's cheating "destroyed" her father and remains one of Kris' biggest regrets.

"I had the happiest life you could've dreamt about," Kris said during an interview on "OBJECTified" (via Us Weekly). "But when you're in something, sometimes people think the grass is always greener, and that was, like, what I think I went through at some point."

According to Daily MailWaterman admitted Kris was still sleeping with him when she started dating Caitlyn Jenner, meaning she may have cheated on two different people with the same guy.

John Mayer roasted his exes

It's no secret that John Mayer has a reputation as a womanizer. Whether it's totally warranted or not is up for debate. The singer claimed to The New York Times in 2017 that he hadn't dated a lot of people "in the last five, six years." Unfortunately, his good behavior didn't erase his extensive Hollywood dating history, which is peppered with some not-so-nice moments.

The singer-songwriter famously humiliated Jessica Simpson, calling her "sexual napalm" in a Playboy interview (via Us Weekly). In the same interview, he referred to his, um, little John (yup, his penis) as a "white supremacist" because he had never been with a person of color.

Despite those poorly thought-out comments, Mayer somehow found himself in the arms of Taylor Swift. His 2009 relationship with the then-19-year-old was short-lived, but her alleged breakup song will live on forever. Swift penned a scathing track titled "Dear John," and rumors swirled that Mayer was her muse. He told Rolling Stone at the time that he thought it was "cheap songwriting" and said he felt "humiliated." Swift claimed to Glamour that this was "presumptuous" because she never technically said it was about him. We don't know who occupies the moral high ground on this one, but one thing is clear: Mayer still wouldn't let it go. In 2016, he tweeted (via NME) that Swift's birthday is the "lamest day of the year." He was 39 years old at the time.

And speaking of Swift...

Taylor Swift has had a big reputation

Taylor Swift might be a peach when she's in a relationship, but her exes often sing a totally different tune. The "Reputation" songstress has a notorious rep for doling out biting remarks and trashing her exes in her hit songs.

According to People, Swift made a big deal about Joe Jonas allegedly dumping her in a 27-second phone call, but the Jonas Brother claimed on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" at the timethat she was the one who hung up on him. Next up was Harry Styles, who reportedly received a passive aggressive shout-out during an MTV VMA acceptance speech. Then there was John Mayer, who told Rolling Stone he was "really humiliated" by Swift's song "Dear John" and "didn't deserve it." (Honestly, what do you expect when a grown man dates a teenager?)

Calvin Harris may have seen Swift's ugliest side after their 2016 split. In some now-deleted tweets (via Stereogum), the DJ accused her of trying to tear him down "for something to do." Their relationship was also subject to cheating rumors, which Swift's "Reputation" lyrics didn't do a great job of dispelling. In addition, Cosmopolitan accused Swift of throwing actor Tom Hiddleston under the bus with "Getaway Car," which is to say nothing of the songs inspired by her splits from Jake Gyllenhaal and Joe Alwyn.

Moral of the story is: If you don't want a Taylor Swift breakup song written about you, marry her. (We're looking at you, Travis Kelce.)

Tristan Thompson repeatedly cheated on Khloé Kardashian

Tristan Thompson and Khloé Kardashian began dating in 2016, just a couple of months before his ex-girlfriend, model Jordan Craig, gave birth to his first child, Prince. Unfortunately for Kardashian, her pregnancies with the NBA star would also be tainted by the presence of other women. In April 2018, multiple reports of infidelity surfaced. First, TMZ spotted Thompson going to a hotel room with a mystery woman when the reality star was nine months pregnant with daughter True. The outlet then obtained video of him kissing two other women at a hookah lounge when Kardashian was three months pregnant. And it didn't end there. While Kardashian initially chose to stay with Thompson, she eventually called it quits in February 2019 after learning her man had cheated on her with Kylie Jenner's BFF, Jordyn Woods.

Despite Thompson's bad rap sheet, Kardashian decided to give him yet another chance in 2020, and the pair sought to have a second child, this one via surrogate. However, before son Tatum was even born in August 2022, Thompson had cheated on her yet again, fathering a son with trainer Maralee Nichols. Thompson took to Instagram Stories to apologize directly to Kardashian, writing, "You don't deserve the heartache and humiliation I have caused you" (via Cosmopolitan). It seems that was the final straw. Asked if Kardashian would consider getting back with her ex, an insider told Us Weekly in 2023, "[S]he really can't imagine that ever happening."

Robin Thicke blurred lines until he lost his marriage

Robin Thicke met his wife, Paula Patton, in 1991 when he was just 14 years old. She was 15, and they soon became high school sweethearts, eventually tying the knot in 2005. They welcomed son Julian Fuego in 2010, and all seemed to be well until infidelity rumors emerged. In 2013, Thicke became a household name thanks to "Blurred Lines," but the song would do more harm than good. The track courted plenty of controversy with its provocative lyrics, and his infamous MTV VMAs performance with Miley Cyrus didn't help. However, it was what happened after the show that really caused the rift in his personal life. The singer was pictured grabbing 20-year-old Lana Scolaro's behind at an after-party. As she later told Life & Style, they got handsy at the bash. "I don't think he cared what [Paula] thought," Scolaro claimed. "I was with him the whole night!"

Thicke denied this but eventually admitted to being unfaithful in a 2014 deposition (via The Hollywood Reporter). Marvin Gaye's kids had sued the artists behind "Blurred Lines" for copyright infringement, and Thicke testified that he was too high to remember the songwriting process. Asked if he was an honest person, he addressed his February 2014 separation from Patton, saying, "No. That's why I'm separated" (via People). He added, "I told my wife the truth — that's why she left me." That October, Patton made the split official and filed for divorce.

Ben Affleck ruined his marriage, then trash-talked his ex

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner married in 2005 and seemed to have a great union, but then Affleck sabotaged it, ruining his marriage. For one, he put his career first, which hurt Garner's. As she said at a promotional event in 2015, "I've been home for a long time" (via Us Weekly). Affleck also allegedly struggled with anger issues. Not to mention that insiders claimed he had hooked up with a former nanny, Christine Ouzounian — which he denied — as well as "SNL" producer Lindsay Shookus, whom he dated publicly after his 2017 divorce. Interestingly, back in 2014, "Gone Girl" director David Fincher called Affleck's fidelity into question in the film's DVD commentary (via New York Daily News). "If I was his wife, I think I would be very suspicious, always, of whoever just called," he mused.

Affleck and Garner initially separated in 2015, though Garner stood by his side as he entered rehab. She continued to support him after their official split, even driving him to rehab in 2018. And yet, Affleck had the audacity to tell Howard Stern in 2021 that she was to blame for his addiction. Asked what would have happened if he'd stayed married, he made claims that had him dragged by critics. "I'd probably still be drinking," he said (via People). "It's part of why I started drinking ... because I was trapped." Affleck later tried to walk back his words, saying they weren't true.

Nick Cannon is only committed to non-monogamy

Nick Cannon has had 12 kids with six different women as of 2024, and some of the timelines, well, they overlap. In June 2021, for example, he had twins with DJ Abby De La Rosa and a son with model Alyssa Scott — just six months after having a daughter with Brittany Bell. Then, in 2022, he had five kids with five different women and, according to him, that's what his partners wanted.

Speaking with "The Breakfast Club" in 2021, Cannon said he doesn't believe in monogamous relationships and claimed that becoming a father has never been his decision to make. Rather, he said it's his baby mamas who have all actively chosen to have kids with him. "Those women, and all women, are the ones that open themselves up and say, 'I would like to allow this man in my world and I will birth this child,' so it ain't my decision," he claimed. Fans were quick to clap back at that sentiment, accusing Cannon of looking for excuses for his cheating, creating broken homes, and straight-up lying. "But you married Mariah Carey, so clearly, at some point, sir, you subscribed to the institution," wrote one critic on social media (via The Things).

Cannon himself has admitted to having been a serial cheater but told DVSN in 2022 that he's changed and no longer hides anything from his partners because he's now involved in "consensual non-monogamy."

Mario Lopez got frisky at his bachelor party

Long before Mario Lopez found a decades-long love with wife Courtney Mazza, he had a two-week marriage to actor Ali Landry. The couple met at the 1998 Miss Teen USA pageant and dated for six years before saying "I do" in 2004. Then they annulled the whole thing just days later. Lopez eventually revealed what happened during a 2011 chat with Howard Stern. Apparently, his bachelor party got a little too rowdy, and he ended up cheating on his bride-to-be right before their wedding. As he recalled, his cousin whisked him off to Mexico where he was caught getting frisky with a woman by a pool.

When Landry's sister discovered the incriminating photos, she showed them to Landry, who immediately sought an annulment. "I was wrong for obviously lying ... I shouldn't have been in that position," Lopez said (via Daily Mail). He claimed he wasn't ready to get married but didn't find the courage to say so until after the pics surfaced. "I finally got the balls to say, 'Hey, listen, I'm not ready for this, I'm sorry,'" he recalled.

Landry herself later told the "Unfolding Leadership" podcast in 2022 that the infidelity was actually much more than a one-off. "Not even a week after, I found out that it was, like, a Tiger Woods situation," she claimed. "It was truly, like, devastating."

Justin Timberlake had a 'lapse in judgment'

Britney Spears is convinced that Justin Timberlake cheated on her during their high-profile union, and it sounds like old habits die hard. In 2019, JT was spotted getting real cozy with "Palmer" co-star Alisha Wainwright in New Orleans. As The Sun reported, the singer was not wearing his wedding ring while getting handsy with Wainwright. Images and video of their night out spoke volumes, showing the pair holding hands and acting very much like they were on a date. "At one stage he grabbed her hand and rested it on his knee," a source told The Sun.

The evidence was so incriminating, in fact, that Timberlake took to Instagram to apologize. "A few weeks ago I displayed a strong lapse in judgment — but let me be clear — nothing happened between me and my co-star," he wrote in a since-deleted post (via E!). "I drank way too much that night and I regret my behavior." He went on to apologize to wife Jessica Biel and noted, "This is not the example I want to set for my son."

It wasn't the first time he was accused of being unfaithful to Biel. Back in 2010, sources told Us Weekly that Timberlake had a three-day affair with "Perfect Couples" co-star Olivia Munn after allegedly convincing her his marriage was over.

Jude Law hooked up with his kids' nanny

Sienna Miller has been accused of her share of indiscretions, but she was also cheated on while with Jude Law. In 2005, the couple was engaged when Law had an affair with Daisy Wright, one of his kids' nanny. Rather than denying it, Law admitted his wrongdoing. "I just want to say I am deeply ashamed and upset that I've hurt Sienna and the people most close to us," he said in a statement (via People). "There is no defense for my actions, which I sincerely regret."

The pair split that same month and, years later, Miller opened up about the very public scandal that rocked her world. As she told The Daily Beast in 2020, it was all the more difficult because she was performing in a play in London's West End at the time and had to remain professional while trying to dodge the paparazzi who were constantly chasing her there.

"That was one of the most challenging moments I hope I'll ever have to experience," she admitted. "[W]ith that level of public heartbreak, to have to get out of a bed let alone stand in front of 800 people every night, it's just the last thing you want to do." The actor also revealed she's blocked out a huge chunk of that time. "There's a whole six weeks of that experience that I don't remember," she said. "I was in so much shock over it all."

Jay-Z 'shut down emotionally'

When Beyonce dropped "Lemonade" in 2016, she nearly broke the internet. Fans dissected every verse of every track and latched onto telling lyrics like "Becky with the good hair." It quickly became clear to anyone who listened that Jay-Z had been unfaithful in his marriage and the record was Bey's response. Jump to 2017, and the rapper admitted as much. Speaking with The New York Times, he shared that he and Bey began making music together as a way to heal and work through their trust issues, which eventually resulted in "Lemonade" and his "4:44" album. "We were sitting in the eye of that hurricane," he mused. "And it was uncomfortable. And we had a lot of conversations."

Noting how most people would have given up and chosen divorce, he said that he and his wife instead decided to tackle their pain head-on. Therapy proved a big help and taught him an important lesson: "Every emotion is connected, and it comes from somewhere." Jay said he realized he had to stop putting on a hard persona and instead embrace the vulnerability inside. "You have to survive, so you go into survival mode and ... [y]ou shut down all emotions," he explained. When that happens, it's hard to emotionally connect with your spouse, "[a]nd then all the things happen from there: infidelity."

Kevin Hart was unfaithful while his wife was pregnant

Eniko Hart was eight months pregnant in 2017 when rumors surfaced that her husband, Kevin Hart, had been unfaithful. Radar obtained photos and video of the comic getting frisky with a mystery woman inside a car outside his Miami hotel at 5 a.m., and while he denied the allegations, the evidence was pretty damning. What's more, TMZ learned shortly after that Hart was being extorted by a woman who claimed to have a sexually suggestive video of him. This time, he owned up to the headlines and apologized on Instagram. "I'm not perfect," he admitted. "I made a bad error in judgment and put myself in a bad environment where only bad things can happen and they did."

Eniko ultimately chose to give her hubby another chance in order to keep her family together and ensure her unborn child had a present father. Not that it was easy. She revisited the infidelity in a 2019 episode of "Kevin Hart: Don't F*** This Up," revealing she discovered it via DM. As Eniko shared (via "Today"), someone she didn't know sent her a video of Hart with another woman. "[I]mmediately I just lost it," she recalled. "I just kept saying, 'How the f*** did you let that happen?'" But while she did forgive him, she also held him accountable to do better. "[A]s long as he behaves, we're good," she concluded.

Jessica Simpson had an 'emotional affair'

Jessica Simpson's early career was marked by her devotion to abstaining from sex before marriage, and yet, as she wrote in her 2020 memoir, "Open Book," "After I actually had sex, I understood that the emotional part was what mattered." Which is why, according to the singer, her emotional affair with her 2005 "Dukes of Hazzard" co-star Johnny Knoxville was the worst thing she could have done to then-husband Nick Lachey. "[T]o me, an emotional affair was worse than a physical one," she wrote, opening up about the deep connection she had with the equally married Knoxville. "I could share my deepest authentic thoughts with him, and he didn't roll his eyes at me," she wrote (via People). "He believed in me and made me feel I could do anything."

Simpson and Lachey (who began dating in 1999 when she was just 18 years old) eventually called it quits in 2005 after three years of marriage and, given her transgression, the terms of their split were rocky. "I wish we were the kind of people who could divorce and stay friends," she wrote (via E!). "We weren't, and I regret that my actions hurt him."

Arnold Schwarzenegger hid a love child for decades

In a revelation that shook Hollywood, Arnold Schwarzenegger admitted in 2011 that he had fathered a son named Joseph with his family's housekeeper, Mildred Baena, back in 1997. Then, as additional details of the infidelity emerged, it became clear just how hurtful the indiscretion was to his then-wife, Maria Shriver. For one, Joseph was born just days after Shriver gave birth to their son Christopher. What's more, Baena kept working in the Schwarzenegger household, and the actor was sure Joseph's dad was Baena's husband. However, he quickly realized this wasn't the case. Even so, rather than taking ownership, he hid the secret from his wife. He succeeded for over a decade, all the while providing for Baena and their child. He even bought them a home in 2010.

In the end, it was Shriver who confronted her husband about his cheating through their marriage counselor in 2011. As Schwarzenegger recalled in the 2023 Netlfix doc "Arnold" (via The Sun), "I thought my heart stopped. And then, I told the truth." That was all Shriver needed to know. She soon filed for divorce, ending their 25-year marriage, but as she told the "Making Space With Hoda Kotb" podcast in 2023, it took a lot for her to work through her pain. That included going to a convent where she learned the importance of giving herself the permission to be her authentic self.
