Destiny's Child Singer Michelle Williams Engaged

Michelle Williams is engaged to be married!

People reports that the former Destiny's Child singer, who recently reunited with bandmates Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland at Coachella, has found her forever love in pastor and life coach Chad Johnson. "We could not contain this any longer!" Williams told the magazine.

Williams, 37, revealed that she met Johnson in March 2017, when she attended his spiritual retreat in Arizona — the Elevate International retreat. Noting that she was in "a horrible, dark place" after her boyfriend had cheated on her, the singer explained that she needed to make a change, stating, "I just needed to go somewhere where I could get a message of hope and restoration, rejuvenation — get connected to God."

Johnson, it turned out, was also going through some relationship blues and had been in "a place of despair."

Still, while the two had apparently hit it off, Williams maintained that starting a romance with Johnson, who's served as a chaplain for sports teams like the Pittsburgh Steelers and the L.A. Dodgers, was never her intention. "I mean, he was cute," Williams shared, "but I did not go to flirt with the pastor!"

However, it didn't take long for Johnson to pursue Williams. "I tried to roll in with some mac daddy game — and I tried to flirt a little bit and said something like, 'How about you and I connect sometime?' And right away, she texted right back with one word and six question marks behind it: 'Connect??????'" Johnson recounted to People. "I thought she had dissed me. So I was embarrassed, and I didn't reach back out to her because I thought I'd ruined the friendship."

Fortunately, Williams later messaged Johnson again, and the two have been together ever since.

So, just how did Johnson propose to Williams? Well, first, he got her family's blessing, which he recorded on video. Then, he brought her to the hotel where they'd first started to text one another exactly one year later on March 21. Playfully recreating their text exchange, Johnson then had a waiter bring over an iPad, on which Williams watched him ask her family for their blessing. Afterwards, Johnson got down on one knee, pulled out a 5-carat engagement ring, and asked Williams to marry him.

Johnson and Williams hope to wed in the summer of 2018.

Congratulations to the happy couple!
