What Really Happened To Tim Burton's Ex-Fiance, Lisa Marie?

Filmmaker Tim Burton has been in the public eye for decades because of his offbeat contributions to the film industry, including films such as "The Nightmare Before Christmas" and "Edward Scissorhands." Along with his level of fame has come an interest in his personal life, including his past relationship with actor Helena Bonham Carter, with whom he has frequently collaborated. Before his relationship with Bonham Carter, however, ABC7 writes that Burton was in a relationship with the actor Lisa Marie — not to be confused with the late Lisa Marie Presley — for about ten years until 2001. Some sources have described Burton and Marie as having been engaged at the time that their relationship ended, such as in a 2000 article from The New York Times.

Given the high-profile relationship the couple shared for a decade, fans might be wondering what has happened to Marie in the years since their relationship ended, if she's still in the entertainment industry, and why she seems to have disappeared from headlines.

Lisa Marie is still acting

Per her IMDb page, Lisa Marie has continued her work as an actor, although there is a noticeable gap in her credits from 2001 to 2012. It's clear that she is still involved in the entertainment industry, in other words, although it seems that she is not as involved in it as she once was. An Instagram account that appears to belong to Marie (but is not verified) is still active, with Marie sharing photos of herself and various other snaps.

Besides the acting roles listed on IMDb, it is unclear from her Instagram page what Marie has been doing for a living in the years since the end of her relationship with Tim Burton. A Facebook page linked from the official website given in her Instagram bio features countless throwback photos of the actor, though the page appears to be a fan account for Marie rather than one that is operated by Marie herself.

Lisa Marie and Tim Burton have had legal trouble

In an unfortunate turn, the relationship between Tim Burton and Lisa Marie didn't come to an end without some legal troubles for the former couple. In 2006, per People, Marie sued Burton for fraud. Per the ABA Journal, however, the same lawsuit — which was described there more specifically as a palimony lawsuit — was thrown out in 2008 by the California Court of Appeal, which held the view that Burton should be granted a summary judgment in the case. The ABA Journal, quoting an article from the Associated Press that is no longer available online, mentioned that Marie's lawyer said that she would be appealing the decision of the appeals court.

Despite this, It does not appear that anything more has come of the legal battle between Burton and Marie in the years since the ruling in Burton's favor. Rather, it seems as though both parties have moved on from their previous relationship.
