Jennifer Lopez's First Husband Doesn't Have Faith In Her Marriage To Ben Affleck

Jennifer Lopez and her husband Ben Affleck first started dating in 2002, and got engaged that November. The two never made it down the aisle, however, breaking things off officially in early 2004. Although the two didn't share the reasons for their split when it first happened, they have both opened up about their decision to part ways in the years that followed. "I would say it was about 50 percent [of what destroyed our relationship]. The idea that people hate you and they hate you together and that being together is poison and ugly and toxic and the thing none of us want to be part of," Affleck said on "The Howard Stern Show" in 2021.

Affleck and Lopez rekindled their romance in the spring of 2021 and while they didn't come right out and say that they were back together, it didn't take long for them to make things Instagram official. In July 2021, Lopez snuck a photo of her and Affleck kissing in an Instagram post that included pictures from her birthday trip. Flash forward to January 2022, and the couple exchanged vows in an "intimate" ceremony in Las Vegas.

Eight months later, the couple had a bigger celebration at Affleck's home in Georgia. And while Lopez and Affleck seem to be embracing their second chance, there's one person who isn't too sure that this marriage is going to last.

Jennifer Lopez's ex says she 'loves being in love'

Jennifer Lopez's first husband Ojani Noa spoke with the Daily Mail after his ex's August wedding. "I wish her and Ben the best," he told the outlet, before adding, "I'm not convinced it will last." Noa, who was married to Lopez from 1997 until 1998, explained his thoughts on the matter. "Jen loves being in love but she's been engaged six times. Ben is husband number four," he said. "I was husband number one and she told me I was the love of her life. When we lay in bed on our wedding night, she said we would be together for ever,"

And while many fans have jumped on the Bennifer 2.0 train, some found themselves unsure of the status of the couple's union after their appearance at the 2023 Grammys. Ben Affleck was seen looking less than thrilled while sitting at a table next to his wife. His unhappy face quickly became a meme and there were reports that the couple's marriage was in jeopardy.

Lopez attempted to quiet the chatter by sharing an Instagram post that including a video of her and Affleck locking lips before the award show. "Always the best time with my love, my husband," she wrote followed by a white heart emoji. Even still, many fans weren't convinced that all was well in J. Lo land as evidenced by the numerous concerned comments on the post.

A look back on Jennifer Lopez's past relationships

Jennifer Lopez's ex-husband Ojani Noa wasn't incorrect when he highlighted Lopez's relationship history. Lopez was romantically linked to Sean "Diddy" Combs from 1999 through 2001, before dating (and marrying) backup dancer Cris Judd. The two split in 2002, the same year that Lopez started dating Ben Affleck. After that engagement was broken off, Lopez found love with Marc Anthony, who got married in 2004. Lopez and Anthony welcomed twins Max and Emme in 2008, but ended their marriage in 2011. Lopez would go on to date Casper "Beau" Smart, a dancer whom she worked with numerous times on tour.

Lopez and Smart never progressed passed the dating phase of their relationship, despite seeming madly in love. The two split in 2016, just months before she started dating former New York Yankees star Alex Rodriguez. The athlete got down on one knee and presented the "Jenny From the Block" singer a stunning engagement ring said to be worth some $1.8 million. Alas, that romance didn't work out and Lopez split from Rodriguez in March 2021. Only time will tell if Lopez and Affleck will defy the odds and change the narrative.

J Lo and Ben are in it for the long haul

Despite the 2023 Grammys debacle and her ex's doubts about her new relationship, Jennifer Lopez is moving full steam ahead with Ben Affleck. Since their wedding last year, the couple has reportedly been on the hunt for a new home for their blended family. Affleck shares three kids with his ex-wife Jennifer Garner, and Lopez has twins with her ex-husband, Marc Anthony.

After months of looking, Lopez and Affleck finally made an offer on a home in Pacific Palisades, an affluent part of Los Angeles. The house was listed for $34,000,000, but it's unclear how much the couple paid. The home features seven bedrooms and 13 baths, which is perfect for their five kids. But, of course, for $34 million, you get a lot more than seven beds and 13 baths! The home also has a movie theater, a pool, and a gym. The new house will be the perfect place to begin their life as a family more than 20 years after they originally got engaged.

What's more, according to those close to the couple, the nay-sayers don't bother them one bit. "They're well aware some cynics still look at [their relationship] as a big flashy attention grab and roll their eyes at the speed of it all, but it doesn't faze them one iota," a source told Us Weekly. "They're fully committed to taking the next steps and spending the rest of their lives together."
