Todd Chrisley's Unexpected Friendship With Rascal Flatts' Jay DeMarcus

On reality television series, it isn't uncommon for friends of the stars to appear on camera from time to time, and that is also the case with some friends of the Chrisley family on the USA Network series "Chrisley Knows Best." As noted by Distractify, one friend of patriarch Todd Chrisley who has appeared on "Chrisley Knows Best" is actually better known to the public for his country music career. That's right; Todd's friend Jay is none other than a former member of Rascal Flatts Jay DeMarcus.

While DeMarcus might not seem like the most likely friend to Todd, their friendship has remained solid. It's not clear how or when the two first met, but their friendship has extended into business opportunities for DeMarcus and his family. Plus, both the Chrisley and DeMarcus families reside in Nashville, Tennessee, as the Tennessean reported, so the geographic proximity of the two families means that they likely spend time together even when the cameras aren't rolling.

Todd Chrisley is a producer of Jay DeMarcus' reality series

Country artist Jay DeMarcus has gone from being a notable guest alongside reality television star Todd Chrisley to having a reality series of his own. Per TV Insider, the series "DeMarcus Family Rules" premiered on streaming service Netflix in 2020, with Chrisley as an executive producer. In fact, DeMarcus discussed his friendship with Chrisley with the outlet, sharing that "DeMarcus Family Rules" had been in the works for about three years at the time.

Said DeMarcus of Todd and Julie Chrisley to TV Insider, "We were having a good time popping in on Todd and Julie's show. I love them, and they are some of our dearest friends. One night they took us to dinner and Todd said, 'I think there is a show there with you guys. If you would let me help you develop it and be a part of it, I think we can really make a great show, the way you all are with each other. Your kids are so funny. I think it would bring something unique.' He had to really talk us into it."

As of the time of publication, it isn't clear whether "DeMarcus Family Rules" will be returning for a second season, however.

Jay DeMarcus has other business ventures

While it remains to be seen if more episodes of "DeMarcus Family Rules" are on their way, Jay DeMarcus has other business ventures that aren't connected to his friendship with Todd Chrisley. Per Main Street Nashville, DeMarcus has his own record label, Red Street Records, which produces both Christian and country music.

His Instagram biography notes that DeMarcus still performs music too, now as a member of the rock band Generation Radio since the disbandment of Rascal Flatts. Generation Radio is not signed to Red Street Records but to Frontiers Music, according to its website.

On the page for Generation Radio on the Frontiers Music website, the band's founding is discussed. DeMarcus was quoted as being highly complimentary of his bandmates, saying, "This music is the best of all of us. Everyone in this band sings and contributes in a huge way. ... It is a true honor to make music with people who you respect so much, and hold in such high regard."
