Kim Kardashian Reveals What She Almost Named Daughter Chicago

Kim Kardashian is opening up about her youngest child — and her and husband Kanye West's decision to name her Chicago.

During an episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show that aired on Monday, April 30, 2018, host Ellen DeGeneres asked Kardashian about the reality TV star's choice to name their third child Chicago, despite Kardashian having previously expressed her desire to give her daughter a one-syllable name. "Chicago is not one syllable," Kardashian, who's also mom to daughter North and son Saint, admitted. "It kind of messes with me, I'm not gonna lie. I really like the one syllable thing."

While explaining her and West's decision to name their daughter Chicago, Kardashian revealed what others names they were considering, noting that they nearly named their newborn after her maternal grandmother. "We were gonna name her Jo because my grandma Mary Jo or we were gonna go with Grace," Kardashian explained, "and then it was Chicago."

She continued, "Obviously cause [Kanye's] from Chicago ... that is a place that made him and a place that he remembers his family from." Kardashian also shared that Kanye really wanted to name their child after his late mother, Donda. "I love that name too," Kardashian said. "I just wasn't sure if it's so much to live up to."

Kardashian, who's nicknamed their third kid "Chi," went on, "I just felt that Chicago was cool and different."

As Nicki Swift previously reported, Kardashian and West welcomed baby Chicago via surrogate on Jan. 15, 2018. "Kanye and I are happy to announce the arrival of our healthy, beautiful baby girl," Kardashian shared at the time. "We are incredibly grateful to our surrogate who made our dreams come true with the greatest gift one could give and to our wonderful doctors and nurses for their special care."
