What We Know About Mikey Day's Personal Life

"Saturday Night Live" cast member Mikey Day started out as a writer in 2013. He was discovered after helping former SNL cast member Taran Killam with some comedy projects, some that were produced by SNL executive producer Lorne Michaels. He then joined the cast in 2016, following in the footsteps of Tina Fey and Colin Jost who also went from behind the camera to in front.

On an episode of "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," Day recalled an awkward encounter he had with Steven Spielberg during the season finale of his first season as an actor on the show. "I'm just standing there, and I hear someone say, 'Hey, I know that,'" he said, mentioning that the person was pointing at the Jurassic Park badge on his shirt. "I look and it's Steven Spielberg." The comedian apparently responded: "Yeah, the sketch doesn't take place in the actual park, it takes place on the ride," and then immediately questioned his choice of words.

Day is in a relationship with actor Paula Christensen who has appeared in "Modern Family" and "2 Broke Girls." It is not known if they're engaged, married, or just dating. It seems that the SNL actor likes to keep things private when it comes to his personal life, but he occasionally gives his fans rare glimpses into his life with Christensen and their son.

Mikey Day is in a relationship with actor Paula Christensen

Although it's not known when Mikey Day and Paula Christensen met, it can be assumed they met before the comedian was promoted from "Saturday Night Live" writer to cast member, and after Day and Selma Blair were linked in 2009. In October 2016, just after Day made his debut as an actor on the show, Christensen congratulated him in an Instagram post, captioning it: "So proud of my baby's debut as a #SNL cast member!!!"

Day has also shown his love for Christensen on his social media pages. "Appreciation post for my love and son's mama, who since quarantine began has added many roles to the crucial ones she already plays in our family's lives," he captioned his Instagram post. He thanked her for all the things she's done for him and their shared son, Abbott, during quarantine. "I love you @thepaulaverse," he added. "Thank you for everything you do and for loving me, a full idiot."

Abbott has even flexed his comedic skills while SNL went remote, appearing in a sketch during SNL At Home. "I guess one of the best parts [of working from home] was how our families got involved," Day said in a "Stories from the Show" segment. The clip then cuts to one of the read-throughs where Colin Jost asks about Abbott's presence. "Like this b**** knows anything," Abbott then says to the group of comedians, making them all laugh.

Mikey Day is close with his on-screen partner Heidi Gardner

Although Mikey Day seems to keep his off-screen life private when it comes to romantic relationships, he does share his appreciation for Heidi Gardner, who is often his on-screen partner on "Saturday Night Live." Even when Gardner portrayed Colin Jost's Great Aunt Pat, and Day played the family's butler during a "Weekend Update" segment, it's clear there's something romantic going on between the two characters as Aunt Pat's method of applying lipstick requires Day to apply the lipstick on himself and then kiss her.

In an April 2019 Instagram post, Day posted about how fun he had with Gardner in a "Weekend Update" segment. The two were portraying a couple and were talking about their joint Instagram account. "To go on Weekend Update and fake fight with the wondrously talented @heidilgardner is a true honor," he captioned his post, which was a photo from the made-up account.

Day also gave a shout out to both Gardner and his off-screen girlfriend, Paula Christensen. Abbott starred in a Macy's commercial parody on SNL, and the comedian took to Instagram to write about his son's professionalism. "So very proud of this little crusher," he said. "And love to his real mom @thepaulaverse and onscreen mom @heidilgardner!"
