Anya Taylor-Joy And Cara Delevingne: Inside Their Friendship (& Those Dating Rumors)

Both Cara Delevingne and Anya Taylor-Joy have often been vague about their dating lives which has left some unanswered questions about their relationship status over the years. Delevingne, who is pansexual, famously dated fellow actor Ashley Benson for two years. The couple broke up in April 2020, just as lockdowns from COVID-19 started to hit. "It was the most trying time," the "Paper Towns" actor told Cosmopolitan in June 2021. She discussed how lockdowns made her come face-to-face with her breakup which was helped with healing, but was also extremely trying. According to Delevingne, she was interested in finding a long-term partner, but unsure about being legally married. After splitting from Benson, she was focused on working on herself.

That same year, Taylor-Joy mentioned the person she was dating during an interview, but was rather cryptic. "My partner's just come back from work, and he's moving around all of his equipment, so this was the safe spot," the "Last Night in Soho" star told Elle in April 2021 without naming the person she was dating.

A couple months later, Taylor-Joy and Delevingne attended a Dior event in Greece together and posted about each other on Instagram. "The Queen's Gambit" star and Delevingne both included snaps of them holding hands. Meanwhile, the "Life in a Year" actor also posted footage of Taylor-Joy assisting in helping adjust her dress. Fans loved seeing the two gush over each other online, and future posts had some believing the stars were more than just friends.

How Anya Taylor-Joy let off steam with Cara Delevingne

Anya Taylor-Joy and Cara Delevingne became close by spending time together outside of high-profile events. "The Witch" star shared one of their bonding moments with fans in October 2021 when she uploaded a snap of her and Delevingne locking arms while sporting playful onesies in an inflatable pool filled with Jell-O to Instagram.

According to Taylor-Joy this was a practice to help her let off steam. "And for Emmy night, Cara very sweetly asked me what I wanted to do and I said I wanted to Jell-O wrestle," she told British Vogue in 2022 while discussing the photo. Taylor-Joy said that Jell-O wrestling with her friend was therapeutic. "I made a rule that whenever I do something that's scary, I get to do something ridiculous that I've always wanted to do," she said on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" in 2021.

The following month, Delevingne gushed over her friend while presenting her with the CFDA Face of the Year award. "I am so lucky to know the woman behind the face and her beauty radiates as brightly when your eyes are closed," the "Suicide Squad" actor wrote on Instagram in November 2021 while including snaps of the duo getting close during the event. Understandably, Taylor-Joy was touched by the heartfelt post. "You are everything. Thank you baby munchkin," she replied.

The accumulation of these sweet interactions led to some speculation that the two were dating. A few months later, the status of their relationship was clarified.

Cara Delevingne wanted Anya Taylor-Joy to move stateside

Several months after rumors circulated that romance had sparked between Anya Taylor-Joy and Cara Delevingne, an insider offered insight into their friendship. Contrary to speculation from some fans, the two had not dated, but they were likely closer friends than many suspected. "They have a lot in common and have really intense conversations, but also laugh all the time," a source told the Mirror in March 2022. The pair had connected so intensely that there were even talks about moving in order to spend more time together. "Anya has been busy filming in England and she owns a house in London, but Cara is trying to convince her to settle in Los Angeles so they can see more of each other," the insider said.

Around the same time that details about the friendship between the pair trickled in, Taylor-Joy opened up about her relationship with boyfriend, musician Malcolm McRae. Similar to her friendship with Delevingne, the "Split" actor and her boyfriend were long distance, but that made Taylor-Joy find the silver linings in their time together. "Everyday mundane activities are so full of joy. I love going to the petrol station with him and filling up the car and going to get breakfast," she told British Vogue in March 2022.

Later that year, in July 2022, Taylor-Joy was spotted wearing a new ring while walking with her beau, which started rumors that the couple had married. Although those were never confirmed.
