Why Robert Pattinson And Suki Waterhouse Rarely Talk About Their Relationship

When you're a famous actor in one of the most well-known film franchises of a decade, odds are your love life is going to be scrutinized. That's, of course, the case with Robert Pattinson, who starred in "Twilight" with Kristen Stewart in the late 2000s and early 2010s. The two played somewhat star-crossed lovers, with Pattinson as heartthrob vampire Edward Cullen and Stewart as enamored human Bella Swan. They famously dated in real life, and even more famously broke up after a cheating scandal that looks a bit different years later. Regardless, since they skyrocketed to fame, both of their dating lives have been public and talked about heavily. Other than Stewart, Pattinson's most-famous ex is singer FKA Twigs, who the actor dated for a few years, even getting engaged in 2015 only to break it off by 2017.

Now, Pattinson is in a happy relationship with fellow actor-singer, Suki Waterhouse. The two were rumored to be dating in 2018 after Waterhouse's well-known, separate relationships with Bradley Cooper and Diego Luna were over. After their cozy hangouts and PDA-filled walks were captured by paparazzi for months on end, the two didn't start addressing their relationship until 2019. But even then, both Pattinson and Waterhouse have kept things under wraps, and there's a good reason for that.

Robert Pattinson wants to protect his relationship with Suki Waterhouse

With such public faces and lives, and a bad history of relationships going haywire in the public eye, it makes sense that Robert Pattinson would want to keep his current relationship close to his chest. In 2019, the "Tenet" actor told The Sunday Times that sharing your relationship with the world is not a good experience. "If you let people in, it devalues what love is," he said. "If a stranger on the street asked you about your relationship, you'd think it extremely rude. If you put up a wall it ends up better."

Pattinson and Waterhouse made their red carpet debut as a couple in December 2022, but unfortunately for Pattinson, he does live in a position where hand-holding in public is a photo-op people can't pass up. "I can't understand how someone can walk down the street holding hands, and it's the same as when I do it and a hundred people are taking your photo," Pattinson said about the confusing difference between him and Waterhouse outside and other couples. "The line between when you're performing and when you're not will eventually get washed away and you'll go completely mad." Even though the two of them are always going to get noticed out in public, Pattinson would rather not perform or put on a front if he can help it, which in turn helps his relationship with the "Moves" singer.

Suki Waterhouse can't believe she's still this happy with Robert Pattinson

Suki Waterhouse has also kept pretty quiet about her relationship with Robert Pattinson. The "Daisy Jones & The Six" star has a well-known dating history and hasn't seemed to be with someone this long so far. And she's just as surprised as anyone that she's still dating Pattinson and still enjoying it. "I'm shocked that I'm so happy with someone for nearly five years," Waterhouse told The Times. That's not anything against Pattinson; sometimes it's wild to take stock of where your life is at and how far you've come with your partner. Especially when she thought she would "never, ever... thought I'd go out with a boy from Barnes [in South London]." Waterhouse grew up in Chiswick, which is a district in West London.

Having two actors in a relationship might seem like the perfect storm for clashing heads, but Waterhouse shared that she does ask Pattinson for acting help when she can. "I'll try and get him to help me with an audition before he falls asleep on the sofa," she said. She also got personal, saying that she is "always incredibly excited" whenever she sees his name on her phone, sending her a notification or a text. "I think he feels the same about me," she said. "We've always got so much to say, and I find him hilarious."
