Chris Martin Has A Controversial Diet Just Like His Ex-Wife Gwyneth Paltrow
Whether the goal is to shed some pounds or detox the immune system, stars have been known to follow some rigid cleanses. Who could forget when Beyoncé hopped on the Master Cleanse juice diet to slim down for her "Dreamgirls" role? How about when Khloé Kardashian promoted Flat Tummy Tea to stay in shape? For years, celebrities have faced tremendous criticism for describing their restrictive regimens to the public, which have influenced fans to adopt unhealthy eating patterns of their own.
Gwyneth Paltrow is another Hollywood celeb who has received major disapproval for her choices regarding food. The "Goop" founder is no stranger to giving her unfiltered take on wellness, and she is very particular about how she gets her nutrients. In a Harper's Bazaar video called "Everything Gwyneth Paltrow Eats in a Day," the star explained that she's a fan of oil pulling, smoothies, and protein bars. And, more recently, Paltrow came under fire for her controversial eating routine.
Gwyneth Paltrow defended her strict diet
Nutritionists collectively gasped when Gwyneth Paltrow revealed her current meal plan. During an episode of Dear Media's podcast "The Art of Being Well," Paltrow shared some unsettling details about her diet. The former actor follows a strict regimen that includes intermittent fasting. She said, "I usually eat something at about 12. And in the morning I have some things that won't spike my blood sugar." She noted that she will consume bone broth or soup for lunch. As for her final meal of the day? Well, you won't find the star devouring bowls of pasta with cheese. Paltrow elaborated, "For dinner, I try to eat according to paleo. So lots of vegetables. It's really important for me to support my detox."
Of course, fans were livid over her reveal and took to TikTok to share their frustrated reactions. One account captioned a video, "For someone as passionate about detoxing as she is, she is probably one of the most toxic celebrities in the wellness space of our generation." However, Paltrow later responded to the controversy on Instagram Story (via the Daily Mail). She explained that she eats in a way that supports her long COVID and decreases inflammation. She added, "'I eat full meals. And I also have a lot of days of eating whatever I want, and eating french fries and whatever," while clarifying that she's not prescribing her specific way of eating to anyone.
Chris Martin skips one meal each day
As of late, Gwyneth Paltrow hasn't been the only star to spark backlash about diet culture. Paltrow's ex-husband, Chris Martin, shared his style of eating, and it's extreme, to say the least. In a March 2023 appearance on the "Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend" podcast, Martin said, "I don't actually have dinner anymore. I stop eating at 4 [p.m.]." He then revealed that he picked up the habit from one of his musical heroes. The "Coldplay" singer added, "I learned that from having lunch with Bruce Springsteen ... I was on a really strict diet anyway [but I thought] Bruce looks even more in shape than me, and [Springsteen's wife] Patti [Scialfa] said he's only eating one meal a day. So I was like, 'Well, there we go. That's my next challenge.'"
Martin's remarks sparked a firestorm on Twitter, with fans alarmed by his restrictive eating plan. One account tweeted, "what's with all these famous people just casually dropping their eating disorders lately?" Another user expressed their concerns, writing, "Ok reading about Chris Martin's diet makes me worry he has an undiagnosed ED."
