Taylor Swift Was Feuding With An Ex Months Before Meeting Joe Alwyn

From her years-long feud with Kanye "Ye" West and Kim Kardashian, to her "Bad Blood" with Katy Perry, Taylor Swift has proven she is not one to mess with. The Grammy-winner also had beef with her ex-boyfriend, Calvin Harris, just months before she met her future ex-beau, Joe Alwyn.

To refresh, Swift and Harris began their romance back in 2015, per Us Weekly. From award shows to gushy Instagram posts, the couple was quite public with their relationship. Harris even shared a sweet post of Swift after her historic 2016 Grammy win. He wrote, "Congratulations to my beautiful girlfriend." Swift was just as head over heels for Harris, whose real name is Adam Wiles, and even gave a sweet shoutout to him at the 2016 iHeartRadio Music Awards. The pop singer said, "For the first time I had the most amazing person to come home to when the spotlight went out and when the crowds were all gone, and I want to thank my boyfriend, Adam, for that." The couple was absolutely in love with one another, and fans thought the Scottish DJ might be the one as they celebrated their first anniversary.

However, three months after the couple celebrated their anniversary, they called it quits, per Us Weekly. While it seemed like an amicable breakup, it quickly turned sour.

Calvin Harris and Taylor Swift fight over song credits

Calvin Harris is one of the biggest DJs in music history, as he has created timeless hits, including "This Is What You Came For." While the track is a commercial success, it wasn't a success in his personal life. After Harris and Swift broke up, the song fueled a feud after the "All Too Well" singer's reps claimed she had written the song under the pseudonym "Nils Sjoberg," per Variety

This didn't sit well with the Scottish DJ, who took to Twitter to share his side of the story. Harris began by praising his former girlfriend in now-deleted tweets, per Hello! However, the DJ's praise quickly turned into frustration as he said, "I wrote the music, produced the song, arranged it and cut the vocals though. And initially, she wanted it kept secret, hence the pseudonym."

While Harris seemed respectful about the situation, his frustration got the best of him as he called out his former girlfriend. He said, "I figure if you're happy in your new relationship you should focus on that instead of trying to tear your ex-bf down for something to do." And he didn't stop there, hitting Swift where it hurts by mentioning her feud with Katy Perry. He said, "I know you're off tour and you need someone new to try and bury like Katy ETC but I'm not that guy, sorry. I won't allow it."

Calvin Harris knows he was wrong

In 2016, Harris spoke with British GQ about his relationship with Swift and shared why the breakup turned sour, according to People. He said, "It's very difficult when something I consider so personal plays out very publicly. The aftermath of the relationship was way more heavily publicized than the relationship itself."  If anything, the DJ had gotten more media attention when they broke up, and he's aware his rant on Twitter only made the situation worse. Harris said, "But when it ended, all hell broke loose. Now I see that Twitter thing as a result of me succumbing to pressure. It took me a minute to realize that none of that matters."

When Swift's rep confirmed that she had helped write "This Is What You Came For," Harris felt his work was discredited, per GQ (via People). He said, "I was protecting what I see as my one talent in the world being belittled. It felt like things were piling on top of me, and that was when I snapped." Although Swift never responded directly to the tweets, many have speculated that her song "I Forgot That You Existed" was about the reported feud, per BuzzFeed News. The Grammy-winner has since moved on, entering into a now-defunct six-year relationship with actor Joe Alwyn, with whom she collaborated on several of her albums.
