In May 2020, Julianne Hough and Brooks Laich announced that they were separating after a three-marriage. The pair, who wed in Idaho after being introduced by her co-star Teddy Sears in 2013, said they made the mutual decision to call it quits. "We share an abundance of love and respect for one another and will continue to lead with our hearts from that place," they said in a statement, as reported by People.
The announcement came amid reports that the "Dancing with the Stars" alum and former ice hockey pro had hit a rough patch in their marriage. Hough had been spotted sans her wedding ring on several outings, and she and Laich reportedly refused to quarantine together during the COVID-19 pandemic. A source from Entertainment Tonight said that the pair had clashing views on marriage. "Brooks loves his outdoor life in Idaho, wanted a more traditional marriage and to start a family. Julianne wanted a less traditional marriage, to focus on her career and loves her city life and Hollywood existence," the insider explained. "Despite truly loving each other, they just didn't see eye to eye." Hough officially filed for divorce from Laich in November 2020.
In the years since, Laich has moved on and entered a new relationship with CrossFit athlete Katrín Tanja Davíðsdóttir, with the pair confirming their romance in August 2021. Hough, meanwhile, has remained mostly single but has been linked to several men in the wake of their split.

Along with her birthday message, the "DWTS" alum shared photos of the pair cozying up to one another in what she described as a "faux engagement" shoot. She also set the record straight on their relationship on her Instagram Stories, explaining that Lain is just a really good friend. "For everyone assuming ... Tyler is my BEST FRIEND!
