Why Dave Coulier And His Wife Melissa Bring Almost Never Married

Dave Coulier jumped through some relationship hoops before meeting the love of his life. The "Full House" star married Jayne Modean in 1990, per Closer Weekly. However, the pair got a divorce two years later. Following his split, Coulier was romantically involved with Alanis Morissette. In July 2022, he appeared on SiriusXM to share the inside scoop on their relationship. Coulier sang his praises about the popular musical artist, saying, "She was funny, she was sweet, she was super intelligent, super talented." He even revealed that her 1995 hit "You Oughta Know" was about him. On the other hand, Morissette has kept her lips sealed on the track's inspiration (via E! News).

Following his relationships with Modean and Morissette, Coulier sparked romantic flames with an advertising and portrait photographer named Melissa Bring. Bring has shared numerous photos she's snapped of her partner on Instagram. The couple met in 2005 while Coulier was in Montana. Their love story eventually came full circle on their wedding day, as they said "I do" in that same location. However, Coulier and Bring almost did not walk down the aisle.

Dave Coulier doubted himself

In July 2014, Dave Coulier and Melissa Bring tied the knot. It was a long time coming, as Coulier told Us Weekly a month before, "Melissa has been my best friend since I met her nine years ago. I feel like the luckiest man on the planet." The Montana wedding included heartfelt remarks from "Full House" co-stars Bob Saget and John Stamos, per People. Coulier shared, "We laughed and we hugged and we kissed each other like three brothers do there were genuine tears of joy welling up in our eyes."

However, this monumental day almost didn't happen, as Coulier had some doubts about marriage at the start of their relationship. He revealed, "When I first met her, I said, 'Look, I don't think I'm marriage material.'" But Bring's patience and compassion actually helped propel the relationship forward. He continued, "She never [pressured me] and I guess it made me want to [propose] even more. When you get somebody who's so understanding, you think, 'Boy, why am I not marrying this person?' It's great when you can marry your best friend there's an amazing trust there."

Dave Coulier and Melissa Bring are happy together

Dave Coulier and Melissa Bring's relationship has withstood the test of time thanks to one important factor — something at which his "Full Hose" character surely would have excelled. In November 2020, Coulier told Closer Weekly, "We laugh a lot. We've been through friends getting married or divorced and babies being born and family members dying. Through all those times, we've found a way to find the silver lining by laughing."

Coulier and Bring aren't shy about expressing their love for one another on social media, either. In June 2022, Coulier honored his wife in a happy birthday Instagram post. Perched by a small, outdoor fire with their two dogs, the couple looked as happy as ever. Coulier wrote, "She's the rock of our family, and without her we're just three hairy boys. Everyone loves her so much. I am a lucky man. Love you." In September 2022, Bring then sent some happy birthday wishes to her husband on Instagram. Alongside a series of photos featuring her and Coulier, she wrote, "I don't know how I got so lucky to be on this earth at the same time as you, yet alone, adventure this life with you! I love you more than anything."
