The Real Reasons Cardi B And Offset Broke Up

Cardi B and Offset are off. "I been trying to work things out with my baby father for how many now?" a seemingly upbeat Cardi said on Instagram (via CNN) in early December 2018. "And we're really good friends and you know we're really good business partners and you know, he's always somebody that I run to, to talk to and we got a lot of love for each other, but things just haven't been working out between us for a long time, and it's nobody's fault." She added, "It's just like I guess we grew out of love, but we're not together anymore. I don't know, it might take time to get a divorce. And I'm going to always have a lot of love for him because he is my daughter's father and yeah."

Offset commented on the video, "Y'all won."

Some fans believed the breakup was an elaborate prank, especially because the power couple had displayed its usual PDA just days before Cardi's announcement — and also because Offset had a new solo album dropping. However, a source told People the breakup is, indeed, real. "They have obviously had huge problems for a long time. They're still very close and really do care for one another. Their priority now is their daughter, and they plan to be solid co-parents." So what went wrong for hip-hop's most hilarious, over-the-top couple? Let's examine the potential reasons Cardi B and Offset broke up.

Text messages suggest he wanted a threesome

TMZ reported that Offset attempted to cheat on Cardi B with not one, but two women ... at the same time. Text messages allegedly exchanged between Offset and Instagram models Summer Bunni and Cuban Doll leaked just before the split announcement. In those messages, Offset allegedly propositions the two women for a threesome sans Cardi.

TMZ claimed the text leak was orchestrated by a third woman with whom Offset was cheating on Cardi. That anonymous mistress reportedly sought revenge against Offset for scorning her. What's even worse about the alleged text exchange is that it reportedly occurred in late June 2018, shortly before Cardi gave birth to her and Offset's daughter, Kulture Kiari. If all this is true, perhaps Offset and the aforementioned side chicks should Google the general concept of karma and then apologize profusely to Cardi.

Who is this alleged Cardi wannabe

According to TMZ, it may not have been Offset's alleged cheating that prompted Cardi B to call time on their romance — it may have had more to do with the woman with whom he stepped out on her. Sources claim Cardi knew Offset had a habit of hitting up other women, despite being married to her, but that wasn't the biggest issue she took with his behavior while they were together. The "Bodak Yellow" rapper was supposedly peeved that Offset was linked specifically to Cuban Doll, who is also Latina and has been accused of trying to bite Cardi's rap style in an effort to boost her own profile and career.

For her part, Cuban Doll denied the hookup allegations, tweeting (via Hollywood Life), "I don't know Offset. He could tell you himself, I don't know him. Never had his number, never in my life texted that man." Offset also denied the allegations.

Summer Bunni admitted to an affair

While Cuban Doll denied hooking up with Offset, a lady by the name of Summer Bunni admitted that she'd gotten far too close to the Migos MC and offered a seemingly heartfelt apology to Cardi B. "I have not messed with Offset since he's had his baby [with Cardi]," Summer Bunni said in a video obtained by TMZ. "I didn't know how serious this marriage was..." (Aren't all marriages supposed to be serious?) Anyway, Summer Bunni added: "I feel ashamed ... to Cardi B and to her fans and to her family and to her situation, these were never my intentions and I never wanted to break up a happy home."

Summer Bunni said she hadn't spoken to Cardi. "I would like her to know that I'm a very genuine person and I'm not here to break up her family or mess up what she has going on with her husband ... I'm very sorry that this has happened and I'm very sorry that I didn't think about my worth as the young lady, and I just hope that she can overcome this."

She didn't trust him

In October 2017 — a month after Cardi B and Offset secretly married — TMZ reported that Cardi announced she was single in an Instagram story. However, almost immediately afterward, she posted another update saying she overreacted. Sure. The Cut and The Shade Room both pointed out that video footage of Offset being intimate with another woman leaked in December 2017 — but that the footage was from September 2017, which may well have explained why Cardi cut him loose (if only for a very brief time) in October 2017.

As a result of Offset's alleged history of cheating, a source told E! News that she simply couldn't trust him anymore. "Cardi will always love Offset, but ultimately lost trust in their relationship," the insider alleged, adding that Cardi "made it clear she needs space from him ... Cardi is upset [because she] would love to keep the family together, but knows this is what is best right now."

They were on and off for a long time

Cardi B confessed that when she and Offset secretly tied the knot in September 2017, it was partly to steady their roller coaster relationship. In June 2018, upon revealing they were married, Cardi tweeted: "Our relationship was so new breaking up and making up and we had a lot of growing up to do but we was [sic] so in love we didn't want to lose each other ... one morning in September we woke up and decided to get married." Cardi said they found someone ordained to marry them, her cousin served as a witness, and the bride had no ring, no dress, and no makeup on at the time.

Offset publicly proposed to Cardi a month after they wed. "I appreciate and love my husband so much for still wanting me to have that special moment that every girl dreams of when he got down on one knee and put a ring on my finger," she said.

Cardi may have cheated too

Before you feel too sorry for Cardi B amid the allegations of Offset's infidelity, keep in mind that she may have fooled around behind his back, too — by her own admission — and that she seemed to have a blasé attitude about cheating in general. "Since when are all these women dating pastors and deacons? I'm going to take my time, and I'm going to decide on my decision [whether or not to leave Offset for cheating]," she told Cosmopolitan in a March 2018 cover story.

She added, "None of y'all b****es going to hug me to sleep and clean the tears off my face, so let me deal how I want to deal with it. It's not right, what he f**king did — but people don't know what I did, 'cause I ain't no angel."

She felt a lot of pressure to dump him

Offset's "y'all won" comment on Cardi B's Instagram video announcing their breakup hinted that the media or fans may have played a role in her decision to end the relationship. Cardi previously lamented that strangers were trying to convince her to break up with Offset. "It's like everybody is coming down my neck like, 'Why are you not leaving him? You have low self-esteem,'" she fumed to Cosmopolitan in a March 2018 cover story. "I don't have low self-esteem ... I know I look good. I know I'm rich, I know I'm talented. I know I could get any man I want — any basketball player, football player. But I want to work out my s**t with my man, and I don't got to explain why. I'm not your property. This is my life."

She referenced the public pressure in her split announcement as well, which began with, "So everybody [has] been bugging me and everything..."

His cheating may have played a role in her legal woes

On Aug. 29, 2018, Cardi B's entourage was accused of throwing chairs and bottles at two female bartenders named Jade and Baddie Gi, allegedly because Cardi thought the women had been intimate with Offset, reported TMZ. The women also alleged Cardi was threatening them on Instagram and that she threw at least one of the bottles in the melee. Jade claimed members of Cardi's crew pulled her hair, punched her, and hit her with an ashtray during a previous altercation on Aug. 15, 2018.

Though both women denied hooking up with Offset, was Cardi so paranoid about cheating that it led to violence? She was charged with reckless endangerment and third degree assault. In December 2018, Page Six reported that Cardi missed a court date related to the charges and was threatened with a bench warrant if she failed to appear for a second time.

He may have too much baby mama drama

Cardi B is the fourth woman to have a child by Offset, a fact that's not lost on the "Be Careful" rapper. She told Rolling Stone, "People want to make fun of me, saying I'm the fourth baby mom, [but] I know I'm not having a baby with a s**ty a** man." She also revealed that their pregnancy was unplanned. Cardi recalled the Facetime call in which she told Offset she was expecting. "He was like, 'What? Are you sure?' I said, 'Yeah.' And then he just started smiling really hard."

Even after Offset and Cardi got engaged, his drama with the mothers of his other children didn't seem fully resolved. Rolling Out reported that Oriel Jamie, the mother of Offset's son, Kody, posted the following on Instagram after hearing Offset and Cardi's baby news: "Congrats to my son daddy and his stepmother whom he have yet to meet. hopefully he at least get an invite to the wedding [sic]." Is those words sincere or sarcastic? It's anybody's guess.

They mixed business with pleasure

Offset's made some interesting comments about Cardi B in a November 2018 interview with The New York Times. Do his words portray romantic gushing or flaunting her as an asset? You decide.

"But I'd seen her potential, her vision, her grind. Whatever she does, she's going to master it. She's like me," Offset said, noting that Cardi sold $10.8 million worth of Fashion Nova merchandise in three hours. Seeing as Cardi is one of the biggest rappers in the game right now, she definitely boosts Offset's career and public profile. One has to wonder if she felt used. "She brings excitement and pressure to me, but I like that..." he said. "She's No. 1, so every time I'm hitting the charts, I've got to be Top 10." He called Cardi "the best thing that's happened to me personally, which helps me make the music, which helps my career. I have no distractions. And me and her? We haven't even dropped an album yet. That's a whole other realm."

A source told Page Six the couple tried to stick it out purely for its cash flow. "They were really together ... but, after a while, it was more for business," the insider alleged. "They're both very street, and they have smart people who are savvy and made it known that [being together] is a smart business arrangement for everyone ... They played it up for as long as they could."

Cardi B took the breakup live

Cardi B is no longer to content to talk about her split with Offset on Instagram – she's letting concert crowds know. Per TMZ, just a few days after announcing her split with Offset, the Bronx rapper took the stage at Chicago's B96 Jingle Bash concert at the Allstate Arena on Dec. 8, 2018, and the "Bodak Yellow" hitmaker performed her verse from the Migos collab "MotorSport."

During the song, instead of rapping the original lyrics of, "I get upset off/I turn Offset on/I told him the other day/Man, we should sell that porn," the multi-platinum artist rhymed, "I get upset off/I turn Offset on/I told him the other day/Yeah, we gon' get a divorce." This sounds like a clear message to us.

It appears the new lyrics caught Offset's attention. A day after the show, the Migos rapper took to Twitter to let his fans (and Cardi B) know where he stands. "F**K YALL I MISS CARDI," he tweeted.

Cardi B slammed the publicity rumors

Cardi B has heard the rumors that she and Offset split as a publicity stunt, and she's also listened to the talk that their relationship was fake. On Sunday, Dec. 9, 2018, in an Instagram Live session, she set the record straight. "I wouldn't put my family in a bad name for no f******g publicity, 'cause at the end of the day, ten years from now, my daughter, she's gonna be looking at these type of things, and she's gonna be asking me about these type of things."

"I've been seeing a lot of people say that my relationship was fake," she continued. "B***h, there's certain things called love. People do fall in love. Like, my relationship was never fake. I met this n***a, he was on my a**, I gave him a chance and we fell in love with each other. Things was not always gravy, 'cause at the end of the day, we are two different people. But we never did anything for f*****g publicity, b***h. You think I got f******g pregnant, could have ruined my career for f******g publicity?"

Their friends want them back together

Though Cardi B seemed pretty set in her decision to drop Offset, people close to them — and seemingly the entire rap community, sans Cardi's nemesis Nicki Minaj — want them to stick it out.

Offset's pal 21 Savage led a chant of "Cardi, take Offset back" at the Rolling Loud Festival on Dec. 14, 2018, and TMZ caught the moment on video. Meanwhile, rappers like 50 Cent, The Game, and T.I. all beseeched Ms. B to take Offset back on social media, as Rolling Out reported, though some of their appeals were worse than others. The Game pretty much said Offset could do a lot worse than texting other women, which may not be the strongest way to convince Cardi (or any self-respecting woman) to reconcile with her ex.

Perhaps one of the most integral figures close to the couple who got involved was Cardi's close friend and publicist, Patientce, who helped Offset roll out flowers and crash the stage during Cardi's Rolling Loud Festival performance, as reported by TMZ.

He's desperate to get her back

Sources told TMZ that Offset wants to spend Christmas with Cardi and Kulture, but that Cardi B is on the fence about letting it happen. While insiders told the site that there is a chance at reconciliation, Offset reportedly thinks the media is dampening his chances to win her back, as Cardi allegedly "reads blogs and comments."

Some efforts he's made to win her back include a heartfelt video on Instagram in which he apologized to Cardi for "breaking your heart, breaking our promise, breaking God's promise." He denied sleeping around but admitted to "entertaining." He also tweeted, "F**K YALL I MISS CARDI."

His grandest gesture, however, was crashing Cardi's performance at the Rolling Loud Festival in Los Angeles, rolling out a reported $15,000 worth of roses onstage that read, "TAKE ME BACK CARDI." Cardi looked miffed and appeared to have brief words with him. Lights on the stage dimmed, and he and the flowers soon left. He later tweeted, "All of my wrongs have been made public, i figure It's only right that my apologies are made public too. A n***a was just trying .....thank god I ain't got no balloons sheeesh."

Cardi later implored her fans and followers to stop being so mean to Offset on social media, but she didn't indicate whether or not they'd get back together, saying simply, "I can't predict the future" (via Glamour).
