Best To Worst Dressed At The 2019 iHeart Radio Awards

Celebrities came together on March 14, 2019 to attend one of the most fun nights of the year: the iHeartRadio Music Awards. Hosted by T-Pain, the sixth annual event was made memorable thanks to performances by the Backstreet Boys, female artist of the year recipient Ariana Grande, and English newcomer Ella Mai. The show's star-studded lineup included of some of the hottest names in the entertainment industry, from innovator award recipient Alicia Keys, to artist of the decade winner and country legend Garth Brooks. While we couldn't wait to see how many of the 14 nominations Cardi B would take home (BTW, she wasn't in attendance but snagged two trophies, including hip-hop artist of the year), our eyes were glued to the fashion that made its way down the red carpet.

On this night, most celebrities shoved their couture gowns and three-piece suits into the back of their closets and descended upon the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles in their most informal get-ups. They dazzled us with bright colors, blinding sequins, and their most over-the-top ensembles. Sadly, we also witnessed some looks that made us clutch our pearls. From Taylor Swift's whimsical romper, to Zara Larsson's '90s-inspired frock, here are the best to worst-dressed at the 2019 iHeartRadio Music Awards

Halsey was a winner in more ways than one

Halsey went for a totally unconventional look that we fell hard for. The "Bad at Love" singer rocked the heck out of a white peplum-tuxedo shirt hybrid, tailored black pants, and a black bow tie. The highlight of her look was her pink tresses, and speaking of her hair, Halsey previously spoke to WWD about taking "beauty risks," especially when it comes to her locks. "I change my hair a lot, from blue to blonde to bald, but I'm trying to branch out a little more with makeup," she said. She didn't get too wild with her makeup application at the iHeartRadio Music Awards, but we did appreciate how her light pink lipstick perfectly matched her hair. The hue also added a splash of femininity to her menswear-inspired attire. Combined with a subtle smoky eye, Halsey was the belle of the ball!

The "Without Me" singer won the  L'Oreal Paris Fangirls Award, according to Entertainment Tonight, and she also opened up the show with Travis Barker and Yungblud to perform their collab "11 Minutes." Oh, and Yungblud just so happens to be her rumored beau, so tongues were wagging, though they arrived at the event separately, E! News reports.

Taylor Swift was spring-ready in a shimmery romper

Taylor Swift won the awards for best music video and tour of the year, the latter of which was based on her Reputation Stadium Tour grossing $266.1 million in ticket sales in the United States, according to Billboard. It was only appropriate that the mega-star showed up in something that would cement her position as the queen of country-pop and a fashion maven. Before even showing up to the iHeartRadio Music Awards red carpet, Swift gave her fans a peek of her spring-appropriate outfit on Instagram. She was clad in a stunning Rosa Bloom romper, a pair of State Property earrings, and Sophia Webster butterfly heels, according to People. When she arrived at the red carpet, she shut it down when the usually tame artist whipped her head back and forth to expose a streaks of pink hair in her ponytail. And did we mention her legs were on point? Someone has been hitting the gym, okurrr!

So how did she settle on this winning outfit? We're not quite sure, but she did tell ASOS magazine (via Glamour) that she chooses her outfits based on what her girlfriends would approve. "They are my number one priority, and the opinions of girls are more important to me at this point in my life," she said. If Swift's girl squad is responsible for this look, they deserve all the props because T-Swizzle slayed!

John Legend's pastel suit was everything

John Legend was clearly pumped to belt out his song "Preach" at the 2019 iHeartRadio Music Awards because he began promoting his performance on Instagram days ahead of the event. We didn't know what to expect when he showed up at the Microsoft Theater, but we knew he would be looking as dapper as ever, and he did not disappoint! The EGOT recipient showed off all his perfect imperfections in a form-fitting purple, two-button blazer and matching pants. Under his matching 'fit, he wore a crisp white button-down shirt. Every piece appeared to be made especially for him — something that Legend considers a must with everything he wears.

"Get yourself a tailor. Or find a local tailor that can help you take in and modify your clothing to suit your body shape," the fashion-forward singer told GQ in a 2018 interview. "It's unreasonable to think that clothing bought from a store will fit you perfectly; it's rarely going to happen." Wise words, John!

Shay Mitchell wigged out

No, this isn't a picture of Kylie Jenner. It's actually former Pretty Little Liars star Shay Mitchell! The actress gave her brunette hair a rest for the night and opted for a show-stopping blonde bob wig. "Freaking out my grandma every time I wear a different wig to an event, will never get old, " the You star shared on her Instagram. We're spazzing out right alongside granny, but in a good way, of course! Her hairdo  — courtesy of Los Angeles hairstylist Jesus Guerrero — was just one piece of this fashionable puzzle. She also wore a silver minidress that was covered in shimmery metallic embellishments, a matching blazer with bold black trim on the cuffs and the lapel, and a pair of strappy PVC heels. The iHeart Radio Music Awards presenter showed off a perfect contour application, exaggerated black winged eyeliner, a muted smoky eye, and a pink lip. PopSugar said it best when it described her appearance as "hot." All hail the red carpet queen!

This is one entertainer who isn't afraid to try something new at a moment's notice. She told Glamour, "There are days where I wake up and I want to be a flower child, others where I want to wear all black, and some where I want to be super athletic and rock Jordan's and an oversize hoodie." On the day of the awards, she obvi woke up and wanted to be a glam goddess. We're shook.

Beba Rehxa was a risque traditionalist

Bebe Rexha revealed in a January 2019 Instagram post that she was having a hard time finding designers to dress her for events due to her size. Thankfully, it appears the size 8 "I'm a Mess" singer doesn't have that issue anymore. Typically draped in colorful, vibrant pieces, we were shocked but pleasantly surprised when the New York City-born singer and songwriter went a different route. She rocked an asymmetrical blazer and a pair of matching black pants, and to tie the entire look together, she donned a slightly titled bolero hat secured underneath her chin with a black ribbon.

We know what you're thinking: This look is way too conservative! We disagree. She went sans blouse under her deep v-neck blazer. Yes, we're talking shirtless. This alone transformed her entire outfit into one of the most chic and risqué ensembles of the night. In combination with her talented makeup artist, who flawlessly applied Rexha's neutral lip color and dark eye shadow to make her eyes pop, this was a jaw-dropping look.

Rexha won the best country song of the year award for the track "Meant to Be" featuring Florida Georgia Line, according to Billboard. We weren't surprised one bit since the jam spent an impressive 50 weeks on the top of the country charts. Congrats, Bebe!

Maren Morris' mosaic masterpiece

It was clear Maren Morris put a lot of time and effort into her attire. The "Rich" singer sauntered down the red carpet in a shimmery above-the-knee dress covered in a geometric print that was reminiscent of colorful mosaic tiles. The Daily Mail described Morris as "bright and beautiful," and no lies were told! To complete her look, the Texas native went with her usual wavy hairstyle for her blonde locks, darkly rimmed eyes, rouge on her cheeks, and a hint of nude lipstick. There aren't enough fire emojis in the world for this entire look!

The singer — who won awards for song of the year and dance song of the year for "The Middle" — is never afraid to show some skin, which is evident by her affinity for low-cut bodysuits. Though she was a bit more covered up at this event, we should've known she'd show up on the red carpet in a short dress because, hello, she even wore a teeny tiny mini on her 2018 wedding day. What a vibe.

Tiffany Young was a stunning sheer spectacle

After leaving the K-pop group Girls' Generation behind, Tiffany Young is now taking America by storm and racking up award wins while she's at it! The "Teach You" singer won the trophy for best solo breakout in the fan-voted iHeartRadio Music Awards category, Entertainment Tonight reports. She was oh-so-deserving of the honor. The California native also killed it on the red carpet in a sleeveless dress designed by Jean Paul Gaultier, according to Young's Instagram. The ensemble featured a white and black minidress with a a sheer cape attached at the neck and a pair of matching sheer thigh-high boots. To contrast the stark white fabric, black fabric trimmed the mock neck and hem of the dress, as well as the bottom of the cape.

While the Daily Mail called her look "outrageous," we're loving everything about Tiffany's attire, including her blonde hair, which was pulled away from her face to expose frosty eye shadow, a subtle winged eyeliner, and long earrings that delicately grazed her shoulders. It was a bold move for Young, and we better get used to it. She told Page Six in February 2019 that as a solo artist, she was ready to step outside the box. "Moving back to LA has definitely made me a lot more experimental and open with my style, and more importantly, made me want to embrace being a woman," she said.

Ella Mai showed off extravagant petal sleeves

Ella Mai had one of the most radio-friendly songs of 2018 — we're talking about the soulful, lovey-dovey track "Boo'd Up." It was only right that she be nominated in three categories: R&B song of the year, R&B artist of the year, and best new R&B artist. The English singer and songwriter took home all three trophies, Billboard reports. Not bad! We're super happy that she was honored for her achievements, and she also brought the house down with her performance of "Trip." We just wish she would've brought a little more fire in her red carpet appearance. The singer wore a black blazer dress with a twist: exaggerated petals traveling down the sleeves. Her saving grace was her sleek ponytail, baby hairs that perfectly framed her gorgeous face, her wrap choker necklace, and dazzling earrings. Like other artists, she went with neutral makeup hues to allow her natural beauty to shine through.

Hollywood Life called her look the "ultimate boss lady outfit," but it didn't hit a home run in our eyes. Thankfully, with her immense talent, this won't be the last time we see her on the red carpet. That means she has plenty of time to hone in on a style that's better suited for an award-winning songstress.

Kacey Musgraves' leather dress bombed

E! News described Kacey Musgraves as a "green goddess" due to her flashy emerald dress. The multi-tiered piece with its leather accents was reportedly designed by Georgian designer David Koma, and we hate to tell you, but it the "Golden Hour" singer's dress did not make it at the top of our best-dressed list. Thankfully, Musgraves made up for it with her impeccably styled jet black hair, nude lips, smoky eye shadow, and well-defined eyelashes that were poppin'.

Despite what we think about her interesting red carpet look, we love the fact that Musgraves is always ready and willing to take a fashion risk. Long gone are the days when the Texas native was clad in head-to-toe Western gear. She told Stereo Gum that she's leaning more toward "polished, minimalist" looks, while also naming Cher as her "style icon." So that explains the jet black hair parted down the middle!

She and Harry Styles took home the award for best cover song for their rendition of Shania Twain's "You're Still the One," according to Billboard. That trophy will look perfect next to her six Grammy awards!

Zara Larsson channeled the '90s

The Swedish singer and songwriter is setting the music world ablaze with her talents, and how could you not love her perfectly curated Instagram account? This is one artist who clearly knows fashion, so we were puzzled when she appeared on the red carpet in this little number. We wanted Zara Larsson to slay, not ruin our lives with her attire. Insert sad emoji here.

Larsson told Vogue that Rihanna is the celebrity she looks to for style inspo. "I feel with her that there are no rules, she just wears what she wants," Larsson said, so maybe the "Lush Life" singer took that whole "no rules" thing to the extreme. Her floral dress with puffy sleeves and sweetheart neckline gave us all sorts of Kelly Kapowski from Saved By the Bell vibes ... in the worse way. Larsson's usually immaculate hair was a bit disheveled, and our heart really hurts that the fashion lover couldn't pull this together. Don't even get us started on that belt. Just no.
