Kel Mitchell's Most Surprising Role After Kenan And Kel

"Welcome to Good Burger, home of the Good Burger. Can I take your order?" That quote will instantly remind any '90s kid of Kel Mitchell's role on All That and its subsequent spinoff movie, Good Burger. Mitchell also starred alongside fellow All That alum Kenan Thompson on Kenan & Kel, where his character loved orange soda so much that he couldn't help talking about it all. the. time.

But what has Mitchell been up to post-Nickelodeon? He's had more than a few roles that'll throw fans for a loop — including a career shift centered on religion, a stint on Dancing With The Stars, and a voice-acting role on a cartoon based on a beloved children's book series. In other words, Mitchell has been very busy, so grab yourself a Good Burger to munch on and keep on reading for more details.

Kel Mitchell is now a youth pastor

Marking his most surprising role yet, Mitchell announced on Instagram in December 2019 that he officially became a licensed pastor. "Blessed and thankful for my Spirit Food Family and thank you Pastor Zeigler for seeing the calling of God on my life and trusting me with your Youth Department," the 41-year-old wrote, along with a Bible verse. According to the Spirt Food Christian Center website, Mitchell "speaks to youth across the country encouraging them to trust in the Lord and follow their dreams."

Not only does he work with children of the church, but Mitchell also has three kids of his own: Allure, Lyric, and Wisdom. The first two are from his marriage to Tyisha Hampton, and his youngest daughter Wisdom is from his current marriage to Asia Lee-Mitchell. Mitchell's grandfather was a preacher, according to Vibe, bringing his latest life update full-circle with a focus on faith and family.

Mitchell rediscovered his faith after a personal rough patch in the early '00s. Following the end of his first marriage and the cancellation of Kenan & Kel, he struggled with drugs, alcohol, and suicidal thoughts, per People. He told the magazine, "I was trying to figure it all out on my own. But what I needed to do was turn to Him. Once I found that clarity with Christ, I knew everything would work out."

Kel Mitchell has had a range of random roles over the years

Aside from his unexpected role as a pastor, fans may be surprised to learn that Kel Mitchell voiced a well-known character on Clifford the Big Red Dog. From 2000 to 2003, he played Clifford's pal T-Bone, the little yellow spotted pup. He also voiced T-Bone in Clifford the Big Red Movie in 2004.

In addition to playing T-Bone, Mitchell also appeared on another kids' show: Spongebob Squarepants. In a 2019 Spongebob birthday special, he played the character of Beans McBeans, which honestly sounds like the name of someone who would've worked at Good Burger. In case you're curious, Beans is a bean with a human head, legs, arms, and a sideways baseball cap.

That's just the short list. Over the years, Mitchell's appeared in other series like Game ShakersPink Panther & Pals, and Rob Dyrdek's Wild Grinders. He also earned the runner-up spot on Season 28 of Dancing With The Stars.

Kel Mitchell hasn't forgotten his roots

In news that's sure to make fans weep tears of nostalgic joy, Kel Mitchell is currently executive-producing the All That reboot with his good friend Kenan Thompson. The show began airing in June 2019, and he's already reprised his role of Ed from Good Burger on the show for a whole new generation. In an interview with Complex ahead of the All That premiere, Mitchell said, "I feel like the fans really brought it back, man. Everywhere we go, they're still talking about it." Thompson added, "It's just beautiful to watch God work. Like Pastor Mitchell will tell you, it's real."

Of course, Mitchell's Spongebob cameo and appearances on various other Nick shows suggested he hadn't forgotten his roots, but by helping bring back All That, now we know for sure that he'll forever call Good Burger, home of the Good Burger, his home.
