Where Did Kirk Douglas Live And How Big Was His House?

When Kirk Douglas passed away on Feb. 5, 2020, at the age of 103, he had a substantial fortune and the means to live comfortably during his final days. While we don't know where he was when he said his last goodbye, we do know that the actor spent more than 42 years living with his family in a midcentury-modern estate in Palm Springs, Calif. When Douglas put that house on the market in 2016, he was able to sell it for $3.5 million. What did the buyer get with that money? Plenty of space and lots of luxuries!

Spanning an impressive 4,000 square feet, the home includes five bedrooms and eight bathrooms. "Beyond the glass-walled façade of the 1954 Donald Wexler–designed home, there's an open living/dining room with beamed ceilings, a fireplace, and a wet bar; a spacious kitchen with a breakfast bar; and five en suite bedrooms," according to Architectural Digest. The parcel also boasts a tennis court and pavilion, "which was built in 1976 and is lined with vintage Douglas movie posters," as well as "manicured grounds" where there's "a large pool and terrace with the mountains as a backdrop." While that all sounds amazing, the major selling point may be the fact that the "property backs up to Leonardo DiCaprio's house."

Yes, it must be nice to live like a star, which is something you can do by simply renting Kirk Douglas' former home for your next vacation...

You could spend your vacation in Kirk Douglas' house

If you'd like to know what it's like to live like a star, then you might want to consider renting Kirk Douglas' former home. Remodeled just a few years ago, the snazzy abode features nearly everything you could ever hope for.

"This winning home is the trifecta of Palm Springs Vacation Rentals. Stunning retro interior design, iconic midcentury architecture, and strong ties to the glamour of old Hollywood," Acme House Co. tells potential clients. "Throw in a great location, spectacular mountain views, and a very private resort-style pool yard. The result is one of Palm Springs' most-requested vacation home rentals."

The interior will charm those who stay there with its "open concept floor plan where the living room, dining, and kitchen form one large area centered around a beautiful open fireplace" and the "master suite has a king-sized bed, a deluxe master bath with a spectacular soaking tub, and direct pool access." That sounds lovely, but who could resist what's outside the home. Alfresco dining, an outdoor billiards table, two-person outdoor shower, and a large kidney-shaped pool with a tanning deck are just a few of the amenities. Don't forget the "rolling lawn, mature plantings, and towering palm trees."

You'll just have to pay about $632.50 per night to experience "the magic of this property."
