How Meghan Markle 'Infuriated' Camilla With This Instagram Post

Fans of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex likely followed their last engagements in the United Kingdom as senior royals, a tour which kicked off on Feb. 28 and ended on March 9, 2020. There have been plenty of highs during the couple's trip, including Meghan Markle sharing a sweet tidbit about baby Archie and their reunion with Prince William and Kate Middleton at the annual Commonwealth Day service held in Westminster Abbey. But there have been some low points too, like when Meghan Markle supposedly snubbed Camilla Parker Bowles — aka the Duchess of Cornwall and Prince Charles' wife — via an Instagram post. Although it's difficult to imagine the royals duking it out over a perceived jab on social media (don't they have bigger fish to fry?), the Daily Mirror reported on March 6, 2020, that Bowles is supposedly devastated by the turn of events.

So what did Markle share on the 'gram to supposedly cause all of this hullabaloo? Let's just say some people will be surprised by this latest drama, which allegedly went down just a few weeks before the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are set to become independent from the royal family.

Did Camilla Parker Bowles feel upstaged?

What supposedly went down between Camilla Parker Bowles and Meghan Markle centers on a photo shared to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's Instagram on March 6, 2020. "Yesterday, The Duchess of Sussex, Royal patron of the National Theatre, visited the Immersive Storytelling Studio in London, where emerging technology like Virtual Reality is being used to develop new forms of emotive storytelling," the account captioned black-and-white shots of Markle engaging with the exhibit, which featured a hologram of musician Nubiya Brandon.

Of course, it's fair to wonder why the Duchess of Sussex's post would irk Bowles when it's seemingly so innocuous. The answer? The Duchess of Cornwall reportedly felt upstaged by Markle because the release of pictures coincided with a major speech she gave about domestic violence. Prince Charles' wife had supposedly been planning her talk at the 10th anniversary of the Women of the World Festival in London for nearly a year, which made the so-called snub even worse. "It was known Harry and Meghan would be doing engagements this week, some privately, but everyone was in agreement that Camilla's speech should take precedence," a source told the Daily Mirror about Bowles' "very upset" reaction. "Unfortunately some people had other ideas."

It's possible there isn't any truth to this rumor, as well as the claim that Markle was advised to hold off on the photos beforehand. However, it's fair to argue the Duchess of Sussex tends to steal the show, whether intentionally or not.

Camilla Parker Bowles' speech was still a success

Although we can't confirm if there is a feud brewing between Meghan Markle and Camilla Parker Bowles, it seems that the Duchess of Cornwall's informative speech about domestic violence was a success. "It's incredibly important that we have the interest the Duchess shows," the head of Metropolitan Police, Cressida Dick, told the Daily Mirror. "She has a really deep understanding of the issue and clearly cares." Susannah Jacobs, the chief executive of a charity aimed at ending domestic abuse, added, "We have had people from absolutely everywhere, particularly survivors, literally all the corners of the globe, getting in touch to say how much it meant to them and how touched they were by the fact that she keeps raising this issue and the warmth she shows to survivors."

The positivity surrounding the Duchess of Cornwall's activism is well-deserved, as she brought up many crucial points about a taboo issue. "Domestic abuse is everyone's problem and the solution must be too," she said during her speech. Well-said.

Camilla Parker Bowles has supported Meghan Markle

It's hard to believe Meghan Markle and the Duchess of Cornwall are at odds when you consider Prince Charles' wife was one of the first royals to wish the actor a warm welcome after the couple's engagement in November 2017. "America's loss is our gain. We are all absolutely delighted," Bowles gushed at the time, per Hello! magazine. "As you can see, they're so happy. Sometimes in a climate where we're surrounded by a lot of bad news, it's a real joy to have a bit of good news for once."

The Duchess of Cornwall also shared supportive words after Markle's wedding to Prince Harry, telling a 5 News reporter (via People), "It's nice to have something that is uplifting rather than depressing. Everything was just perfect, including the weather, which couldn't have been better. It was a beautiful day."

That all being said, Bowles did seem to throw some shade at the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in January 2020 when their plan to step back as senior members of the royal family was announced. When asked by a reporter whether she'll miss Prince Harry and Markle, she replied with a wry smile, "Hmm. Course." Take that as you will, folks.
